I'm 17 and fixing to move out in May but my parents wont let me play RS anymore at home because they seem to think RS gives viruses can anyone argue that it doesn't and give supporting info.

What are we at? 1Mil members? (no idea accually, just went by the amount of ppl listed for fletching.) 5£/5$ * 1'000'000 = alot of money, each month.

you don't need to worry about viruses as long as your using an anti-virus tool which is up to date and your not downloading pornmovies ^_^

It's a java file, not an executable. It's contained within the Java sandbox, so it couldn't really do much even if it was a virus.

To answer any questions the reason im leaving at 17 is im joining the Air Force. And to the person who said the thing about having over 1mil subscribers so there shouldn't be any viruses just look at myspace. I'm going to start playing RS and WOW again once i get stationed the only reason im asking these things is to prove to my parents their is no harm. Javascript is less likely to be altered than c++ which directly translates into binary but it is still possible if the person knows what type of command list they are using. With javascript, and even c++, commands can be modified to do different things and wont be the same for ever program. I don't think it is possible to get any lasting virus while playing the game but when loading the pages it could be possible.

#1, the game isn't written in Javascript

 

#2, there's this wonderful thing called a 'sandbox' that allows JAR files to be executed without being able to affect anything outside of what they are allowed to (http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/security/)

 

#3, how on earth would the 'magic code' for 'injecting' a virus while the game is loading work?

I know the deal, My mom was unsure on rs, Because she payed for my membership and thought it might be a scam of some sort. But after a while she realised it was no scam. And the AIDS part? I saw this movie, Dont [bleep] with AIDS. :wall:
