ledzeprox99
Hello. It's Leddie again. First off, I do like to do computer editing and drawing, but never proved to be very good at if you will. Anyhow, I have been recently wanting to learn how to do pixel art. So I decided to go for a pixel sig as my first pixel art. (now I have played around a little bit and made a few little doodles, like square blocks and such from tuts). Besides that, this is my first real attempt. I started with the basic subject of the pixel LED ZEPPELIN (wewt!) I then began to add the depth. ( i draw lots of graffiti irl, so I tried to tie some into my pixel) Here, I finished the depth blocks and began to color in the letters (mostly just to seperate them, easier to see). Now i add some bricks to the background. I have now began to color in most everything. I then tried to add some bubbles on the top of the letters for a more graffiti look, however, they were taken out later. I also took the color you see in the first bricks out. I changed the coloring on the bricks, and removed the bubbles. I did not save some of the steps taken in this next part. I added a background color, (I tried to dither the background with different shades of blue/black, however it didn't work so I dropped it.) I also added some stars to make it more effective. I also broke the edges off the bricks. This is the FINAL sig. That's it. Please, constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks :) Just as a reminder, this IS my FIRST pixel art. So please don't get harsh :)

DingoAte
The text looks like its floating/trying to balance on the brick wall. I think since the text is 3d the bricks should be too which can be done on the right. I don't like the colour of the text :(

Pat_61
Try to use real pictures as references. Such as bricks aren't solid colors, they are textured. ledzeprox99
Try to use real pictures as references. Such as bricks aren't solid colors, they are textured. Yeah, but it was going to be too hard for me to texturize the bricks. I am a newbie to pixel art lol. I didn't really know how to add light or anything, no light source. Pat_61
light source is easy IMO... Just make a new layer with a dot somewhere and make lines going from it to use as refs I Support TET!| If you want bunny PM Me.|Click For My DevArt^ Cowboy is the Best ^IT'S A TRAP SHINY JUST WANTS TO STALK YOU.Hell yeah I do. Unoalexi
*smacks with newspaper* Don't use cruddy MS Paint starter colors! Use your own colors instead, and pick shades that aren't as saturated. Here be dragons ^ Dragon of the Day

Unoalexi
I did use my own colors O.O out of paint.net ty wong. Ty for the advice so far ppl :P Oh.. well in that case, you picked colors that are too saturated. Three fourths of pixel art is picking the right colors for the right places to be honest... Sam
Nothing special... It's like a 5-20 minute job. Just blocks, Pixel gradients.... so on so forth. That wasn't necessary. That's what a lot of pixel art involves you having to do. And also, Pat, I've yet to see anything pixel come from you. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
Jopie211
Actually, I think it looks really good, especially for a first pixel. It's at least ten times better than most first pixels I've seen, and definitely ten times better than my first attempt. The main and only major problem for me is the brick wall. The saturated colours, too 'perfect' looking pattern and the lack of shading make it look very unrealistic. Try to add some more grey to your colours, make the pattern a bit more 'random' and maybe even add some dirt or cracks to the wall. pixel avvy by me deviantART
terley
Everyone's gotta start somewhere, some comments here have been a bit harsh, he did ask for people to go easy. If someones not totally got to grips with palette control yet comments about bad colours are just going to be lost without full backed up explainations to help show him how.A fixed set of colours is great to start you off creating pixel art I think, it's suprising what you can acomplish. I've seen some pieces where people have just gone overboard may have created something though you could say it's quite pretty, have wasted so much unnecissery colours. Yeah it may be a bit saturated but great job for a first time pixel art piece, you've done exactly what you set out to acomplish, any improvements from now would possibly be on the typefacing, letters could be constructed much clearer than this if you worked at it. More than this would involve more intricate techniques to be applied and a more advanced use of a palette. But overall welldone :

Our colors differents: You use colors outside of the 'black box'. You should use those inside. ----TheLair Game!----"Game isn't dead... You wish!" ledzeprox99
Thanks guys for the advice and comments. Especially from Jopie Terley and Pomar. Also Pomar I would love to see your version but imageshack isn't letting me :( I will definately try to change my color pallette that seems to be the main problem. Also about posting graffiti on forums. I tried once to [put my paper graffiti on the computer and it didn't turn out well. Ty though.

Pat_61
Yeah It might have been a little vague... ok so.... Even if it is your first, try to make it look like a professional one. [hide=]http://www.pixel2life.com/twodded/staff/stu/Tutorials/BrickTexture/bricks_zigzag_texture_6190218.JPG[/hide] See how the molding dips in and how there is. Make some space in between and make it white. Also, see how the brick has a rough and no 2 are the same and different colored texture. For the text, make it to where it is on like a neon sign or a board and raise it up so you can make poles for it to sit on. For a light source make a moon with that picture, or if it is now a neon sigh make it a light source and shade from there. Finally, as stated before change the colors of the text so it doesn't look like the bricks. Not sure what color. Hows that?
