Things that annoy the hell out of you

Featured Replies

What do you honestly think will happen? Do you think that if you post enough, he'll suddenly have either a reason you like or an epiphany and suddenly love the japanimation? That's his reason, it's not going to change. So if you can't "see his point of view" or whatever you're trying to do now, you never will.

I was hoping more on option number one as option number two will never happen.

Now this discussion can end in many different ways:

  • 1. The conversation keeps going as it is without any change.

    2. I ignore Skully and feel as if I lost the discussion for not making him revise his reason so I can understand how he feels.

    3. Skully chooses to revise his reason so I can understand him and I shut up about the anime hate so everyone's happy.

    4. One of us starts a flame war by calling another person a name and the thread gets locked with a few of us being banned.

    5. We forget this ever happened and we go about our business while a mod deletes some posts.

So which option can everyone agree on?

This discussion is interesting and ontopic, so I guess tere's no reason to cut it. Just don't start flaming each other, OK? Name-calling makes you look like an [wagon].

Now, back on Topic, I have to agree with Gallade here ( ). Blanket statements like "I don't like Anime' because its childish" just show ignorance, probably due the lack of good animes in Western media. It's like saying "I don't like books because they're too cheesy and corny."

I LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU AGREE WITH ME ON HOW I FEEL ABOUT HOW PEOPLE MAKE STUPID REASONS TO HATE THINGS. Now how's that for a reason? ;)

People who'll do anything to 'win'. (Cheaters, hackers, glitchers, manipulators, people who take advantage of others/put down others, lie, steal, etc...(includes games and real life))

People who keep bothering you even after you've made all attempts to stop interaction/communication, and told them that you don't want to see them again.

People who'll do anything to 'win'. (Cheaters, hackers, glitchers, manipulators, people who take advantage of others/put down others, lie, steal, etc...(includes games and real life))

But there is such a thing as hacking for the greater good. Like hacking Brawl to make it more competitive by adding some mechanics from Melee.

Yeah, but I mean the bad kind of hackers that make themselves invincible/give themselves an unfair advantage.

That sounds interesting actually...are there really people who did that? :P

There is at least 1 anime series out there for everyone, they just haven't gave it a fair chance, or found it.

I don't think so. That's the same as saying there is a country band out there for everyone and that they just aren't "giving it a chance". Some people just plain do not like country.

Saying that you hate all anime is a bit stupid too, since you haven't seen every anime series, and are judging it on one or two series, and judging from where Skully lives, that is likely DBZ, Naruto, Shaman King or One Piece, hell or perhaps even Pokemon.

Do you need to see every single one in order to not like the genre as a whole? I mean, I think generalizations are just as dumb as the next guy but sometimes they are necessary and can save you a lot of time. I haven't watched every single sport the world has to offer, but then again I think it's reasonable to assume that since none that I have watched ever appealed to me, that it would most likely be a wasted effort searching for that one sport that I will actually enjoy watching. I could be using my time for other things, such as things I already like.

This reason hardly has any decent proof to back it up. He doesn't tell why it's "sad, annoying, and childish". Now this is my pet peeve: People who come up with crappy reasons that hardly have any proof backing up the reason that is being used against said object. If he is gonna hate something he should at least give the reason for hate to have some form so we can see it from his point of view. But that reason has almost no foundation so I can't see the reason for hate from his point of view which means he's making stuff up just to annoy me and everyone else which makes him sound bad.

He does have his reasons, but of course you are going to be a biased anime-lover and always say that they are dumb reasons and try to apply his own arguments to everything that he likes in order to make it seem like he really has no reason to dislike anime. Do you see where I'm going here? It's subjective, how are you expected to see everything in the same exact perspective? Of course they are going to be bad reasons to you - the person who likes it. And of course your reasons for liking it are going to be bad for him - the person who doesn't like it.

The thing about disliking country, well, it's that most country bands have the same basic elements. So it is possible not to like a genre as a whole since they share some of the same basic elements.

Well, the thing about when it comes to finding anime, if you know what sort of T.V. series you like, then it is very possible that an anime series has similar basics in the plot etc... and just plays out a different way to make it similar, but unique, and well, with the anime thread here, it's as easy as stating what type you are looking for and waiting for a reply.

You know nothing about me, don't make assumptions like me. Had he given a better reason, such as "I've disliked all the anime I've seen, and am not going to look further into it" then it sounds a lot more acceptable, and chances are, Gallade and I would not have brought this on for long.

I may be as you put it, an "anime-lover" however, that doesn't mean I can't accept other people's choices. Going back a few years, I was into metal (still am now) and a guy I know pretty much said that he thought rap was better than metal. I couldn't see why he said that, and I probably asked him why he thought that, but the thing is, I let him have his choice since it was not a childish remark that can be insulting to fans of the genre, and didn't show ignorance. Hell, the guy even had more metal on his computer than me at the time (obtained from a friend of his) and was the one who burned me a copy of Inhuman Rampage (I later bought it).

So, until you know me personally, don't make assumptions about my character.

And anime share a lot of the same common elements, or else they wouldn't be labeled "anime". There is some sort of requirement that needs to be fulfilled in order for it to be called "anime" or else they would be just regular cartoons.

It is possible, yes, but not for everyone. Looks like you are making an assumption about our character - you assume that we just aren't looking hard enough or that we just don't want to like anime, as opposed to us just straight out not liking it.

You know nothing about me, don't make assumptions like me. Had he given a better reason, such as "I've disliked all the anime I've seen, and am not going to look further into it" then it sounds a lot more acceptable, and chances are, Gallade and I would not have brought this on for long.

When was I making assumptions about you? You like anime... do you really consider that an assumption?

It annoys me when people try to strike up a conversation with you about a subject you know, and they only know little about. Yet, they act as if they know what they are talking about.

The opposite is true, as well. My friend knows I know nothing on a subject, yet deigns to elaborate on it as much as s/he can in order to sound smart.

When was I making assumptions about you? You like anime... do you really consider that an assumption?

Hmm, the thing most anime has in common?

Well, isn't the vast majority of it based in Japan? That's pretty much the only common element between quite a lot of it. I mean, take two like Clannad and Ghost in the Shell. The only similarity? They are based in Japan.

The thing is, to proclaim you don't like anime, well, you've just based it on a few that you've probably seen then said "Hell, I won't bother looking, it's probably all like this."

As for your assumption:

"you are going to be a biased anime-lover"

I've pretty much read all this thread, and plenty people have said they disliked anime. Did I make a scene of it? No. I assumed they had their own reasons, and were keeping them private. Had Skully kept his private rather than call it "sad, childish and annoying" then nothing would have happened.

That general assumption shows his ignorance towards anime. I'd like to see someone be able to watch Ghost in the Shell and call it childish.

And being based in Japan means that they are likely to add stuff from their own culture into it. What if I'm not interested in the Japanese lifestyle? There is a lot more to anime than it just being based in Japan. They have similar ridiculous hairstyles, annoying facial expressions, special fighting movies that seem to come straight out of video games, cliche little teenage hero stories, the tone either being extremely serious or extremely non-serious, trust me - I have my reasons for disliking it, so don't make assumptions about my character  and think that I don't like it just because it is from a different country. Yeah, you can say there are cases of anime that differentiate from those broad elements I pointed out, but that can be said for country and everything else. All country is not exactly the same, but it has similar elements and it's more convenient to judge it as such. You google a random anime picture and you're likely to get some teenage kid pop up with goofy hair that is staring off into space pondering about his/her adventures.

The thing is, to proclaim you don't like anime, well, you've just based it on a few that you've probably seen then said "Hell, I won't bother looking, it's probably all like this."

Like I said, the same goes for country music or any other kind of genre. You can't honestly tell me anime is separate from every other type of genre in this context. I mean you can, but then it would only be fair for me to call you biased and it seems like you wouldn't like that.

I've pretty much read all this thread, and plenty people have said they disliked anime. Did I make a scene of it? No. I assumed they had their own reasons, and were keeping them private. Had Skully kept his private rather than call it "sad, childish and annoying" then nothing would have happened.

That's not what I read. I read him saying he didn't like anime, Gallade telling him to get over it, him saying he prefers American cartoons, and then you telling him that he just "doesn't understand anime". I mean unless somebody edited their post and I missed it, I think that you guys were making a big deal out of someone just saying anime annoyed them, even though that's the purpose of this thread.

That general assumption shows his ignorance towards anime. I'd like to see someone be able to watch Ghost in the Shell and call it childish.

My dad liked it and forced me to watch it that movie. It bored me. I wouldn't say it's childish - more like the opposite. But anyhow, it did not appeal to me.

Yeah, but how hard is it actually to type.

"I'd rather keep my reasons private."

Or anything else which cannot be seen as insulting?

Fanboyism would be saying anime is better than this. I technically never said any anime was better than anything at all in this discussion. I was just annoyed at his reason for hating it because it sounded like he didn't even try to understand what anime is like BEFORE he hated it. And saying something bad about something you have never even tried out is just plain pathetic in my book.
