mcneilp
Been driving for almost a year (Uk). I found the theory test pretty easy as most of the questions were similar to ones i had learned in the practice tests. The practicle driving exam wasn't hard exactly, as you sort of know what they'll ask you before hand.(You need to do two maneuvers; Parallel parking, reverse into a space, 3 point turn or reverse around a corner. Although they may ask you to do an emergency stop as well. The examiner picks 2 maneuvers for you to do during the test). The practicle exam is partly luck as well, depending on which examiner you get (some being more lenient than others) and how many idiots you meet on the road. Being the Uk, i learned in a manual (stick shift) car. It becomes second nature really quickly and doesn't really feel like hard work, pretty cool jamming the car into 3rd and feeling the acceleration. Been in a couple of scrapes as well. One with me behind the wheel which wasn't my fault and a couple of others in friends cars. l0l0lpur34
I don't know why you Americans all drive automatics, in the UK and the rest of Europe the vast majority of cars are manual. It's not like it's any more difficult to drive (it took me 2 lessons to get to grips with gear changing) and probably helps reduce the number of people driving while on the phone (although the UK also has a problem with people messing about with their phones while driving) Been driving for a few weeks now (UK), and doing pretty well - just practicing the basic forward driving at the moment (gear changes, how to handle junctions/traffic lights/crossings etc). Not taken my theory test yet but I've been practicing both using this DVD I have and I'm pretty confident I could pass it now, just need a bit more practice for the hazard perception test before I book it I think though. (the UK theory test has 2 parts - 50 multiple choice questions and a hazard perception test where you are shown a few clips and have to click when there's a hazard you'd have to take action to avoid, e.g. a cyclist coming out from between cars)
depresins
Haha that takes me back... On both my L's and P's I failed the entire section of rules & responsibilities of the road and I still got my licence!
