Drivers permit

Here are 2 questions from my practice test that I can remember: (Note, the questions and answeres are very close to the actual thing).

"What do you do at a stop sign"

a- Ignore it and don;t stop.

b- Stop look to see if any other people were there first then go.

c- Get out of car and dance.

d- Stop in middle of intersection and honk randomly.

"Select any of the following things, that you are not allowed to do while driving"

a-make a tomato sandwich

b-Touch the steering wheel with both hands

c-Apply makeup

d-Play games on your laptop

I felt like I was tkaing a test for dummies =(

The reason why the question are so simple is so that they keep "dummies" who fail the test off the rode and wait for them to learn a bit more common sense.

I drive an automatic. With one exception, everyone I know drives an automatic. And that one guy that drives a manual doesn't try to shove it in anyone's face ever.

I'd say the only advantage of driving and owning a manual is no one will borrow your car.

manuals are actually fun to drive

Uh, man I'm glad I live where I live. Learner's at 14, only had to have that for 90 days then I got my restricted license when I was just under 14 and a half.

Now wtf are you talking about? Where can you be 14 and have a drivers license? Even a restricted one? And how old are you now, presuming you have driven a lot.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

Written was easy for me, passed without studying, except a quick go of the online trial on the net. Can go for my P1 licence in May, once I get the other 78 hours of driving done.

Just bodge it like everyone else in Australia :)

Sort of do, sisters convinced mum to stop at McD for 5 mins? Too lazy to put them as different times, forgot what the time was? guess then go for the 30 mins mark that make it bigger

South Dakota, only place on the planet where it's possible at under 15. Personally I think it's mad though, I'd never allowed myself to drive at age 14, it's just not the right age for driving. It's a complete recipe for disaster. Hell, there are kids that age whose legs can barely reach the accelerator, not to mention insecurity issues/driving when angry or under strong emotional influences etc.

I reckoned. South Dakota's insane anyways. Of course, I drive now, and I'm fourteen. I desperately want a hardship license as well, my parents both work full-time. I bum rides from friends so often it's ridiculous.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I'm 20 now, and yeah I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles in my lifetime (longest I drove in one day was about a thousand miles).

As for driving at 14, it's not as bad as you'd think when you consider the fact that there's never any heavy traffic. The number of accidents involving kids ages 14-16 is a lot lower than you'd think. I'd say the only bad thing about driving in South Dakota is the fact that you get no practice at driving in big cities let alone big cities during rush hour.

Rule of thumb for South Dakota - guys are better drivers than girls. I have a female friend who's been involved in 4 accidents, 3 of which were with parked cars. #-o

Yeah, isn't the largest city Cheyenne, with, what, 40,000 people there? Crazy South Dakota.

I don't trust any of my friends, though. And a lot of them are 16. I always get overly critical on their driving. Tough love.

I think I've actually helped one or two, mainly with turning. They'd take huge turns and I kept getting annoyed at having to hold tight to drinks.

That's Wyoming, which has even less people than South Dakota but the reason our driving age is lower is because of all the agriculture. Biggest city here, Sioux Falls, has 100,000+ people but it's really easy to drive in.

Oh darnit. I always confuse you two.

Still, must be pretty crazy for folks learning to drive in a city like, say, New York after driving around there. I live in a city of 250,000, and the drivers (and roads) in Houston freaked me out.

Heh at least you know where the other sates are. Most of my class couldn't figure out half of the states when looking at a map with no names. :wall:

I was looking through the back of the manual to see what the questions were and Texas is so strange...

"What effects does the use of marijuana and amphetamine have on driving?"

Do I care? I'm not planning on taking any drugs...

Heh, I wanted my permit when I turned 15 and bugged my parents for it. "We'll help you with it soon. Soon!" Now I'm 18. :|

I've also been pretty nervous about driving. This thread makes me feel more confident though. Just seeing other people in the same situation makes me feel at ease.

Took this last year and got a 100%

The only kids who failed it were the kids who never showed up or slept through the entire class.

The only problem I have is the damn DMV + my mother [bleep]ing me over on getting my license. RAGE so hard.

Wait, what? Dude, that's crucial to your background knowledge before you take the wheel. They're looking for something specific that it targets - alcohol, for example, affects your basic motor skills first (I think that was the answer on the test).

In Michigan we have to take a 80-100 question tests (cant remember exact number) and I had to get a 75% or better to pass

I remember it was very difficult, I payed complete attention in class (didn't study much) I think i got like 79% on it.

Point being....i saw some people only had a 20 question test....that's ridiculous, I had to take a difficult 80-100 question test!

alright, that's enough ranting ::'

Alot depends on the state in which you take the test. A few years ago when my mom moved to Oklahoma, she failed the driving test because half were dealing with alcohol percentage levels based on the amount you drank, time after, etc.

In Texas, my test consisted of [developmentally delayed]ed questions on what the yield and stop sign wanted me to do...

I'm going to be getting my license soon. I've just got to practice parallel parking and then I will go take the written and driving test.

Really? The highway is what seems easiest to me, personally. I don't like all the stops-and-gos of city driving.

And why do people hate stick shifts so much? As long as you don't get one of the ones whose clutch takes two hundred pounds of pressure to push down, it's easy.

The highway scares me. Going 100 kilometres an hour with a bunch of other cars all around. Makes me feel like I'd get into an accident.

Because compared to automatics its a lot harder. I hear it's really easy and natural once you get used to it though, it's just the learning period that's frustrating (my sister stalled 5 times in a row a while ago and got really pissed off, it was pretty funny).
