I encountered another one today.

Squander.

AWESOME!!!!!!!

It's something only a villian would use if he's ticked off that his evil henchmen wasted precious resources or something.

It's quite common, take sports for example...

"the striker squandered many opportunities to score"

I dunno most of the words people are naming here I hear often (for eg. hence, henceforth, thus, presume etc..) Perhaps it's because they are foreign and aren't used to listening to English constantly (like the TV)? Or perhaps it's because I've spent the last 3 years at uni and something has been rubbed off on me, but I doubt that...

One word which I would like to use more is "ostentatious". Just sounds cool to say :P

man, this forum sucks, I can't use a real word... I just saw my post got censored.

The word isn't racist--Add the A in there

1. Grudging and petty in giving or spending.

2. Meanly small; scanty or meager: left the waiter a niggrdly tip.

immaculate- Free from fault or error

Teaching and inspiring.

Quandong - A sponger (Can be used on any Noob begging for money on RS)

Seem to struggle to get "Please" or "Thanks" said from anyone where i live. Us "teenagers" are so arrogant that nobody actually pays attention when we're polite.

And nobody trusts us either. Sure i've had some bad experiences and rumors have spread, but most people are surprised when they compare the REAL me with the rumor me  and I'm always so polite, except to certain teachers that just love to do nothing but get on my frickin nerves!.... this world is becoming kinda screwed up, i reckon.

What about "Tosser"

Gargantuan.

Stupid movies. :|

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!

we'll assume you have a younger brother or somethin that wanted you to watch Arthur with him.....

Arthers cool i watch it all the time lol i aint gonna say how old i am..

Are you talking about Arthur the Aardvark? The cartoon?

Aardvark - A burrowing mammal of Southern Africa, having a stocky, hairy body, large ears, a long tubular snout, and powerful digging claws.

I've played quite a few text based roleplaying games and since everything has to be described in words they tend to use a lot of seldom seen works to describe things. That and I've done some post format roleplaying as well.

Here are a few I remember offhand.

Cacophony: Jarring, discordant sound; dissonance: heard a cacophony of horns during the traffic jam.

Aureate: Of a golden color; gilded.

Proficient: Having or marked by an advanced degree of competence, as in an art, vocation, profession, or branch of learning.

Virtuoso: A musician with masterly ability, technique, or personal style.

A person with masterly skill or technique in the arts.

Peckish: Ill-tempered; irritable.

Chiefly British. Somewhat hungry.

Satiated: To satisfy (an appetite or desire) fully.

Anachronism: The representation of someone as existing or something as happening in other than chronological, proper, or historical order.

Avarice: Immoderate desire for wealth; cupidity.

Esoteric: Intended for or understood by only a particular group.

Tintinnabulation: The ringing or sounding of bells.(some of you might recognize this one from "The Bells" by Edgar Allan Poe)

Lurid: Causing shock or horror; gruesome.

Marked by sensationalism: a lurid account of the crime. See Synonyms at ghastly.

Glowing or shining with the glare of fire through a haze: lurid flames.

Sallow or pallid in color.

Soliloquy: A dramatic or literary form of discourse in which a character talks to himself or herself or reveals his or her thoughts without addressing a listener.

I had to read the book Wuthering Heights for school and ran across several including this one.

Penetralium: Which doesn't even have a definition on dictionary.com but they did have the definition for Penetralia which is:

The innermost parts of a building, especially the sanctuary of a temple.

There are more but this is all I can remember right now.

Satiated -- what you have there is the dictionary.com definition of "satiate".

Satiated is to satiate as full is to fill.

Well that's the definition I got for satiated and so I just copy/pasted it as is, but I know what you mean. It gives the same definition for satiated, satiate, sate and sated, I figured everyone could figure it out on their own.

I see what you mean. Anyway, good list of words that: a lot of them are ones that lots of people don't often use in conversation, whereas a lof of the other words people have been putting up are... commonplace, really.

Blasphemy -Contemptuous or profane act, utterance, or writing concerning God or a sacred entity.

Not very rare word, but IMO the coolest sounding

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosisit's the longest scientific word and it is not uncommon but try using that in sentences.

"man did you hear about that guy that died from pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis"

Btw is means- a lung disease caused by tiny silica dust.
