i don't really know anything about terragen sigs, but that is vveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery nice!!! i love it! as i love most of your work, good job! oh and goodluck in the TerraNut comp

  • Author

Thanks.

And by the way, do you guys think its too sharp?

for the style not too sharp. What size will the final be?

I like it so far.

  • Author

hmm... Well i'm sure the final will be quite different then this.

What i'm trying to get is well... hell I don't know, a cool sky effect. I've been messing with the controls, trying different stuff, all that. The competion lasts a whole month, so I figure I have about 2 weeks of learning about atmospheres more, and a week to work on it. Even though i'll probaly end up doing this all in a week or less lol  .

Well, this was kind of seeing how stuff worked together. Incase anyone is currious, here is some of the basics of the atmosphere:

atmosphere blue = Complete black. since atmosphere blue is usualy what the skys main color is, I chose that, for experemental purposes.

I then made the sun red-orange (this as you can see is edited in photoshop) And made its effect on the atmosphere as much as I could. Then I made the clouds "almost" black, but a tad grey, so that they caught onto the redness of the sun.

Breif explanation lol. :)

I like it a lot, but I think its a little too sharp I dunno just think that if it was smoother it would be better.

my 2̢̮â¬Å¡Ãââ

i never seen that kind of terragen sig before very nice i think u should smooth it a bit its too sharp but still nice

  • Author

Yeah, probaly should smooth it a "tad" :)

Thanks guys. I'm still working on it :)

I like the whole style of it, but its looks extremely... low quality for lack of a better word. Maybe it is the sharpness, but it looks like it was taken into photohop and crosshatching put on, or mosiac or something else. I cant really explan :?

To me man, looks like it was almost pixeled. I like it. Great experiment.

The sky is too distracting, IMO, or at least the way it's being done now.

It looks for everything like you took a kind of bland landscape and just upped the contrast and/or saturation really high.

IRKAa.jpg

It looks great, but IMO its a bit dark.

Nice Job Nadril!

Yeah I agree. Looks like you just got the render, duplicated the layer and set it to overlay.

The contrast mostly is because The first thing I did was duplicate>sharpen, than I duplicated that and changed its hue to blue. The actual scene started as a very redish atmosphere, so turning this blue made it green. Guess you could say I was going for something like that.

There isn't anything to worry about it being like that for the final version though. Right now It's a preaty calm atmosphere i'm working on :D

"Dead" comes to mind more than calm. Calm is usually soothing, this isn't..

Oh no, I wasn't talking about this one. Talking about the one i'm working on in terragen right now :) . Yeah, I know this one is very deathly, what I intended it to be.

it looks like you used the chalk and charcoal filter

i don't really like to look at it but i can see how other people can.

Nadril, to be honest. I don't like it. It looks like it lacks inspiration and it's just the ten thousandest image you make that's "expirimental" to cover yourself from flames. Really it doesn't look good. I think you know a lot about these programs but you don't seem to make any progress in your works (not that I could do any better by the way), and people only say you're so good because you're a well known sig maker at the fora (of course everybody dis-agrees, but that's what I think). In my opinion your sigs lack inspiration and your titles (of different works) are just some words with no meaning to the signature, I don't think you're very good. You know a lot, don't understand me wrong, but you can't put your knowledge into a good piece, you just lack inspiration I think, and therefore you arn't a real great artist (ofcourse this is subjective).

If I sound too hard, I'll add a compliment for an older sig that does look good, I think. You made it together with Vlad for me.

It has a really natural feeling to it, and it's nice and raw, just what a mountain is suposed to be like. The colors make it simplistic and raw and give a natural feeling to it. Combined with the font it makes a good signature, but still it lacks meaning or inspiration (but that might be the style too, and it probably wasn't made for those purposes).

Hmm... I half way agree with you. I do agree, I have been lacking inspiration in these past few. I've been trying to learn so many of the technical views of the program (which, compared to many, especaily at places like teranuts, i'm still quite the noob at terragen) and haven't realy had time to try and get something with meaning.

However, I just thought i'd correct you, this new update of the landscape is the first title i've given one in a while, Although I guess I didn't explain why, so i will :) :

"...And the sky opened up"

As you can see in the atmosphere, the actualy sky is blue, however, right near the "tear" as i'd like to call it, the part thats pure white there is orange-ish colors, flame like, around it. To me it kind of felt as if the sky was literaly just "opening up" or tearing apart. It's lame, I know, but thats what I saw in it.

but, like I said, I know I don't have a lot of inspiration in these pieces. I'm hoping when I finish actualy learning about the program I will. I've had a few ideas for some realy cool scenes, stuff that I would love to make, but alas, 'tis all impossible if you don't know how to use the program.

Hopefully in a months time, or even a few weeks I will have learned enough to realy pour forth some of the ideas I have bubbling inside of my head. What I post right now , for the most part, is kind of like "progress" on the mere technical side of things.

I do like the one me and vlad did, the surface was quite simplistic, but it did move nicely together.

I will keep it in my mind though to try and not post as many of these... updates on how stuff is going.

Hopefully you do understand, because 85-90% of what you said I agree with.

Yes, yes. I understand why you gave the title "...And the sky opened up", it's just that you put your titles to the works you make too simplistic, we can all see the sky opened up, there's nothing else of a special meaing or refference to the title, it's too literally; we can't feel it.

but, like I said, I know I don't have a lot of inspiration in these pieces. I'm hoping when I finish actualy learning about the program I will. Why don't you try and evolve into a style that does give you a lot of inspiration, where you can add your feelings into it and add a personal touch because that's what the whole process starts with, and try to improve on that, because this doesn't get you very far, in an artistic point of view, to be honest.

Hopefully in a months time, or even a few weeks I will have learned enough to realy pour forth some of the ideas I have bubbling inside of my head. What I post right now , for the most part, is kind of like "progress" on the mere technical side of things.

Art is not fully techinal, it's the feeling you put into it, therefore you should put a lot of thinking in the style you want to get better in. It's not like I want to get better in math, this is very personal, it needs more and maybe better thaught about what you want, isntead of making what the public likes and what sells.

I will keep it in my mind though to try and not post as many of these... updates on how stuff is going.

You can post as many as you like, but it needs to be good, it needs to be special, with your own feeling to it. But this isn't really good and it doesn't reflect any inspiration, it's just some random trying, and of course you need good critism, but being the artist you are you can see a lot of stuff yourself too.

Hopefully you do understand, because 85-90% of what you said I agree with.

I think I understood most of it. But you should try and produce something more of quality with a personal touch to it, than commercial quantity. I'm glad you didn't take it in a bad way, because it wasn't meant to be in a bad way. :)

Yeah, I guess whenever I tried to name some pieces a bit more... odd-like, I got a lot of "just a random title" deal. I'll just refrain from naming stuff like normal.

Right now i'm working on something a bit for me. I know what I want to do, and i'm going to try :)

That's important, think of something you want before trying a program.

Still looks tacky man.

I thought you had made some real progress with your current sig. It got an element of realism, and it's still tasteful. I think that's what's missing from most of your work. Elegence, a touch of class.

I don't know if your current sig happened by fluke, but I'm gonna assume it didn't. Take whatever you did it it, and experiment with that, not with weird atmospheres and concepts.

I was just about to make a similar post myself. Your current sig is much better than this..

You also need to work on your typo, I think. You use the same font/color on every sig......
