Heh. You're shunning other rappers, but embracing Kanye? That's hilarious.

I dont really like him, I'm just saying he can make decent stuff.

I really dont see how saying Kanye's better than the others is bad, other than the fact that I dissed sampling songs.

Which he always does.

EDIT:

Ok fine you're right, embracing a rapper because he doesnt rap about the typical stuff is obviously wrong.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

For the 'mainstream' part of the TV, I basically meant non-cable TV. Here, non-cable TV is full of crap.

But unwatched channels could be considered underground? :P

For music though, alot of the popular music, seriously is crap.

It's the same thing over and over again with R&B, Rap isnt even what it started off to be - about turf wars and home dawgs. Now it's about drugs and [garden tools].

Hip Hop is just crap, same lyrics as rap, with mostly sampled beats.

As for Kanye West, imo, he's alright. He doesn't rap about typical black rapper stuff, which is why he was almost declined a record deal. Gold digger and Good life are 2 pretty decent songs.

What about mainstream metal with sucky riffs, fail vocalists and breakdowns? You seem to like that, and judge everything from that point of view, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people wouldn't agree.

I bet rap actually isn't half bad if you're into the less well known and not overplayed artists.

1. I only listen to metal I actually like, and theres absolutely NO metal where I am, it's literally hated by the community because its too loud, and doesnt have rhyming words.

2. Yes, I know, some of them are ok, but I havent heard much since my brother moved out. I dont really hate rap, but I said mainstream, didnt i jay?

I mean, so many people I know dont like mainstream stuff, but so many people do. I have some friends who listen to some kinds of rap you're talking about, it's actually decent (in lyrics)

I just dont really like the sound of rap.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Hmm, then I think we both agree that mainstream isn't really worth listening to.

Well, it is, because sometimes they play some decent bands, barely ever, but they might be good enough for attention.

Kings of leon was the only good band they played last year.

I do like it, but I wont listen to it because of the following 3 reasons;

1. It's really not my genre, but the drummer in the band is just great.

2. It's really repetitive.

3. I've heard it alot, radio + mp3, it's gotten old, mostly due to the repetitiveness.

I dont need a siggy no moar.

No. It's not good for something played on the radio. It's bad.

How can you not laugh at it?

How the hell is it bad for something that's on the radio?

I dont know where you're from, because what's played on Aussie radio is basically controlled by Americans. So, soulja boy is better than kings of leon?

The name, and the lyrics of the song, are just [developmentally delayed]ed, obviously.

What do you expect when the songwriter likes to write songs when he's drunk?

It's bad. I don't see what the radio has to do with it? It doesn't make the song any better. Also, they play a lot better music than Kings of Leon on the radio. Soulja Boy is a good example. It's got zero pretentions, the singer doesn't sound like a baby (hear how emotional I sound with that little cry in my voice), and it's genuinly funny. KoL just makes you turn around and shake your head because you feel ashamed for listening to them. Have you heard that single "Use Somebody", I seriously haven't heard anything so bad in years. And that's from somebody who lives in a country where the most popular music is

, this and
.

On the lyrics of Sex on Fire...

They were just kind of dummy lyrics. Depending on whether a song starts with a melody or starts with lyrics, you know if it starts with a melody you just keep playing the melody over and over until you get it down and just throw in any lyrics that fit the verbal flow. Sex On Fire was just kind of a little lyric just to fill in to kill some time until we could actually write something that wasn't about sex and fire.

Oh, I always thought you were american

Soulja Boy isnt even meant to be funny, but you look at it and find it funny, doesnt that say its bad?

And radio has everything to do with it, due to the fact that the title is called 'Mainstream', I'm talking about decent/crap music that's on the radio.

Yeah, like i said, what do you expect (lyrics) from a songwriter who writes when he's drunk?

So, I'm just going to drop this because you actually asked what radio has to do with this.

That was kinda a silly comment

I dont need a siggy no moar.

Of course I ask what the radio has got to do with it. You said that I said it was bad for something on the radio, but I never said that. I said it was a bad song. I went off-topic. I can't help it that you don't go with me.

Kings of Leon is terrible and you should feel terrible for listening to them.

When they were really played here, and my friends were bugging me to listen to them, I was all "nah, gonna go listen to Nightwish." I have no idea of which is more embarrassing.

Most of the stuff has a pretty big fan base, but isn't exactly mainstream. I guess I'm in between?

Anyways, I've always thought soulja boy was a "parody artist" (Don't know exactly what to call it, but not meant to be serious) even though everyone else doesn't. Either way, he makes me laugh.

I only listen to the radio when I'm back home in Washington and only in the car. I like KEXP and The End (I think its called). KEXP is more of an Indie radio station and is owned by the University of Washington. The End just plays alt rock, more mainstream but I usually don't care cause I just want to hear music. I almost became a rotation DJ for my school's radio station but the hours didn't work well with me and there was no pay on top of crappy hours. TV I don't really watch besides NBC prime time shows and Lost on ABC. I do watch occasionally a show or two on MTV if my friends have it on.

Yeah, most people are serious when they sing about spidermanning a hoe.

He says super-soak, if I'm not mistaken :P

I also kinda think that Soulja boy was a bit of a mock, but I think its mainstream because of how typical-rap it is.

@The kings of leon thing is terrible.

If you only listen to lyrics in a song, you really do not care much for music and shouldnt post here >.>

I've only heard "Sex on fire" and that was terrible, if all of their songs are like that then I have to agree with you.

My main problem with Kings of Leon is that horrible singer since most of the time he sounds like a dying camel. Apart from that, they're decent.
