Every single company comes out and says whatever will make them look best. This isn't rocket science.

Just because a company can lie to yield favorable results does not mean that the company lies.

 

 

 

 

No, because FTP is designed to hook people into members. Making an initial fee required would reduce good reviews and new player influx.

If F2P is designed to hook new players into buying members, then why did Jagex remove Gnomecopters?

Other than that, I do believe you're making to big of a deal about Jagex spending time coding for F2Pers, at least for this update. This forum change should only take an hour to code, and probably won't even take that much. Besides, any update F2P receives is an update P2P receives aswell.

 

 

 

Aside from whether or not free-players deserve this, I'm wondering why Jagex announced this ahead of time. I assume that they announced this earlier so that when they state this update on the main-page, the forums will not be chock-full of rants yelling that free-players don't deserve anything.

Not sure without knowing their market data. Perhaps they were convincing players that members stuff wasn't all that great, or was removing some of the mystery.

I'm not making a big deal about it, just a single post saying I don't like the direction Jagex is moving. The rest of my posts were backing up and proving every part of that first post.

I don't need to prove profit is being lost, all I need to prove is that expensive are increasing. And since servers, maintenance, electricity, bandwidth, and man power are not free, I've already proven it.

A few hundred FTP players on the forums indeed won't increase server costs that much. 250,000 FTP players on the forums will. SQL queries and database searching, to say nothing of storage and archiving, all take up a considerable amount of processing power.

It's an easy way to advertise my drops and experience so people don't have to ask when I'm asking for or giving advice. Plus, I actively contribute to the forum, and TIF is non-profit. On top of that, the image is hosted at imageshack, so it doesn't touch TIF bandwidth :lol:

But still, 7% is a lot out of millions. Surely F2P can pay it off? Do you know the exact numbers? Runescape was run for a very long time just on f2p.

 

Your forgetting that they are already way in the negative from the bandwidth\maintnance cost; storage isn't the only factor.

Yeah, a lot of us F2Pers have some good ideas that would improve the game. If you haven't taken a look at the thread about cape emotes, you can go see what I mean.

 

 

 

Some ideas would only pertain to F2Pers, but we can also create some fundamentally new ideas that P2Pers might overlook.

Look, the forums will be available to some F2Pers, so we can offer some suggestions and discuss Runescape. One person here feels that Jagex shouldn't focus on that, but should focus on what he wants. Jagex's discision will most likely not change. We'll have access to them. That's it.

But by running the numbers above, FTPers account for approx. 42% of overall server use. Also, subtract main page adds that both PTP and FTP go through on the main page from the 7% advertising revenue. It's not rocket science.

The rate at which FTPers come up with great ideas for PTP is considerably less then the rate at which PTPers come up with great ideas for PTP. The reasons are fairly obvious. The more noise and spam there is, the faster real suggestions get lost.

You (compfreak) stated when replying to my post that it was -obvious- that Jagex needs to maintain a positive image to both the p2p and f2p communities to be able to maintain a strong flow of new memberships

 

But then you go on about how you hate Jagex using your money to provide supposed "freeloaders" with benefits

 

 

 

So pretend, at least for once, to look at things this way, all the money that Jagex uses from p2p memberships to pay for f2p marginal updates and maintenance are really just required investments by a company that wishes to maintain its game running.

 

If jagex were to stop giving little updates to f2p and actually just went ahead and removed f2p servers then Runescape will see drastically less new memberships and unless every single current member stays a member forever then I'm pretty sure Runescape will cease to exist.

 

So yeah, your supposed golden and incredibly valuable cash is actually being used fully to your benefit, even if its not in the form of updates its in the form of maintaining the very foundations that keep the game running and made it grow at the rate it has and would stop to exist without them.

I don't quite see how giving FTP forums has to do with 'maintaining the game running'. Like I said, the ONLY reason for FTP to get an update is to make people go PTP - any update that does not accomplish that is wasting my money.
