Johannas
[hide=answered]To cut a long story short, i bought a brand new CD - however it doesn't play on my computer/any of the CD players in my house... It has a very tiny scratch on it which i think may be the problem. Is there any known ways to clean a CD/take a scratch off/Basically make it play on my computer? Please stay on topic. Thanks.[/hide] Thanks for replies guys - i found that Brasso did the trick  Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!
killerbeer0
Baking soda in water, the solution should be ever so slightly gritty. Then use a soft rag and apply the solution to it, then wipe over the scratch from the center of the CD to the edge not in circles. Toothpaste with a little water added works too but baking soda is better I think. Both would be applied the same way. OH S***! He/she/it is back! Sbrideau
Maybe it's a DVD and not a CD?

ClareJonsson
The best way to clean a CD is to polish the surface with Brasso and a very soft cloth. The surface of the CD/DVD is basically a protective layer so you can polish that to remove scratches etc. Never ever under any circumstances should you damage the top layer (Where the label is) as just under that is the data surface. IGoddessI
Believe it or not - hot soapy water does the trick - Then get a very dry and clean towel and dry outwards, do not go around in circles. I've done this with my cds ever since I was a teenager and have never had a problem with it. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours. aeternitatis
The following reply is not a joke: Put it at the bottom of your toilet and flush it. It will clean it completely. Seriously, try it. OldJoe
This thread seem to have a couple of drunks. I use the same technique as Clare wrote, works for me. Otherwise, return it for a new copy. I was thinking the same about the drunks lol. Brasso is used to polish metals and you can get a mirror shine using it, so it's excellent for polishing plastic. What you're actually doing is removing a very thin layer from the protective surface on the CD thus you will remove all but the deepest scratches. It takes a bit of elbow grease but worth it in the end! [Assist-X]
