You can't possibility compare things such as women's rights to a video game. -.-

No. I can't. And I don't.

I'm comparing his exclusivist attitude to women's rights and civil reform.

I don't think I said Runescape once in that above post. Don't count the part in quotes, I didn't say that.

Well that would be saying murder and theft would be same despite the seriousness of the crime.

You criticize my clever analogy that you misunderstood and then make a non sequitur of your own? Talk about double whammy.

I am sorry, as English is not my native language and is quite late here, but I just want to list what you are talking about so I can get the facts straight. ::'

He talked about giving up on something when you do not like it, in this case, Runescape. You then gave a few examples of important issues such as discrimination towards African Americans and talked in a sarcastic manner how MLK should give up as well and take the African Americans out of US because he doesn't like what he sees instead of fight it. Do you agree with this part?

Yes I know his attitude towards Runescape is to give up if you do not like it, but he never did state that you should give up on everything just because you don't like it. You took his attitude at one example and believe that he is telling you to apply that attitude toward everything else, which he has never stated in anywhere.

If you believe I said anything wrong or took anything out of context, feel free to point it out, and I have a strange feeling that compfreak would love you.

I'm trying to make the clicking more fun, not remove it.

But how? I mean have groups and things, that's understandable, but what i tried to stress is that the ability to do that is already present in the game. This isn't something that needs to be done. This is something for people to do if they want to do it. Jagex has given us the tools. People can use them as they please.

Yes. That's what I'm trying to change. They should have access to most of the content, but it should be more fun when they're higher level.

Why should someone who started the game 2 minutes ago have as much access to the game as someone who started in 2001? Level requirements and such are the basis of this game--they are the fundamentals of all quests and all skills and all minigames. This doesn't make sense to me. Lower levels should have access to all this fun stuff, but they shouldn't actually be able to have fun with it? That seems worse to me than prolonging their access to it--giving it to them and saying "hey! too bad. not high enough."

You shouldn't have to do "hard work" in a game in order to be able to enjoy it. And no I'm not saying to reduce the level requirements for it. I don't think you understood this section. or the one about precedents.

Hard work is relative. In MMORGPs , you HAVE to spend time in order to enjoy it. You have to work hard and be disciplined. That really is the fundamental of this game, and I hate to say what everyone else is saying, but if you can't cope with that, Runescape isn't the game for you. Ideallically you can say "oh, yes, you shouldn't have to work hard" but unless you can provide some actual solutions or changes, it doesn't fly. What WERE you saying? I think i misunderstood because you weren't be too clear. You said jagex shouldn't change their rules on how the operate the game. They don't. But then you say Jagex should make it so Ice Barrage isn't something you have to work for.

They can definitely feel superior. They don't have the right to say things that makes others feel inferior. And "hard work and dedication" should ideally be changed to "fun activities" and "playing longer because you want to".

Your problem here is with runescape's population, not Jagex. Neither you, nor Jagex, nor I can change how people act. Nor can any structure that Jagex adopts. Ok, yeah, sure it'd be nice if we didn't have to work really hard to get our high levels and such, and just have fun doing it. But that's not the way it works. That's not the way it works in ANY challenging game, that's not the way it works in real life. Games should be fun and rewarding. But games like Runescape and WoW simply require pouring in time because that's what their function is! Putting time and effort in as a means to get fun as an end. You're trying to supplant the means with something sugar-coated and keep the end. Ideally, that's fantastic. you can't do it though.

Well. I am not advocating any form of communism/socialism. I simply feel that runescape should be less of a chore, and that the journey should be just as fun as the goal. I'm actually a conservative in real life, and I support the capitalistic U.S Economy of the late 1990's and pre-9/11 2000's.

Hopefully you can see where i'm coming from. What you were saying, whether you meant it or not, is that higher levels and lower levels should have equal access to things. That an aura superiority should be eliminated. That has a scent of communism, if you ask me. But that's not something I want to dwell on or argue about. MMORGs can be a chore. Think of it as a government. We have to pay taxes within our government, and that's something you just can't change. It's a drag, but we have to deal with it to hopefully get a better outcome in the future. You can change things within the government to make it better for people, but you aren't going to be changing the foundation.

No. The inference is that if his attitude had prevailed, then The United States would be backwards, since no progress would happen.

Yes I agree with you here, if you apply his attitude on everything, then yes everything will stay the same and no progress will be made because nobody will do a thing about it. But his attitude is based toward on a video game, not everything in society. For example, like most of the teenagers around, I am really lazy when it comes to chores such as cleaning my room. Does it mean I am lazy toward everything else? Absolutely not, I still think you are basing one thing and apply it toward everything else, which see_all1 did not state in anywhere in his post. If you are thinking of something else, then is my fault. :(

Yes I know his attitude towards Runescape is to give up if you do not like it, but he never did state that you should give up on everything just because you don't like it. But how?

Refer to first post. Skills should ideally be trained through things like mini-games and D&D primarily rather than clicking 500,000 times.

Not right now.

Why not? Simply replace the grinding with fun, and fun is present. I do provide actual changes. Evil trees should be the way to train FM and WC, not constantly clicking on a log and then a tinderbox.

Think of it as a government.

I'd rather think of it as a game, to be played for enjoyment.

If There was any communism already, it was implemented in late 2007/early 2008. This is not adding communism, this is adding fun. If you don't think its fun (and more of a chore), then maybe runescape isn't for you. There are plenty of games out there to chose from, many of which allow you to cheat your way through it.

Ahh, the age old "if you don't like then leave" given to those who desire change. Now THIS is the way to get stuff done.

"John Hancock: Umm, I don't like that the British rule over us and tax us without our consent.

Intelligent thinker who is well informed: Well, if you don't like it, then leave, and take all of your stupid Patriots with you."

"Frederick Douglass: Umm, I don't like that blacks are slaves.

Intelligent thinker who is well informed: Well, if you don't like it, then leave, and take all of your stupid [redacted] with you."

"Elizabeth Cady Stanton: Umm, I don't like that women can't vote.

Intelligent thinker who is well informed: Well, if you don't like it, then leave, and take all of your stupid women with you."

"MLK: Umm, I don't like that blacks are segregated.

Intelligent thinker who is well informed: Well, if you don't like it, then leave, and take all of your stupid blacks with you."

I bow down to your reasoning Intelligent thinker who is well informed

Except in this circumstance, you're a consumer. There are literally thousands of video games out there, and picking one you like better than sticking with one you don't is completely plausible, and in fact encouraged. No one is forcing you to play runescape.

The difference here between "if you don't like it, do something else" and each and every one of your analogies is there wasn't an alternative. I.E. - either gripe about it or start a revolution. Here, you can play a different game, and you can't start a revolution especially if there are a thousand others who will take your spot in a week.

Refer to first post. Skills should ideally be trained through things like mini-games and D&D primarily rather than clicking 500,000 times.

Well rather than criticize every skill in runescape, how bout criticize the only ones that apply to your argument. You have issues with cooking, fishing, firemaking, woodcutting and mining and runecrafting. And you assume that no one actually has fun doing this. Here's the thing also. If you have skills that are really only trained through minigames, you have a bunch of people getting experience for a skill and getting nothing out of it. You could set up a rewards system, yes, but Jagex has never really produced a minigame with exp rewards that are good/worth achieving or fair. Plus if you have a system of minigames for training that has rewards and is equivalent to clicking a tree hundreds of times, you kill the economy. I'll give you this: Theoretically, the game would be more fun if Jagex introduced this from the beginning. But this can't happen now. You can't have a minigame that supplants skills that put raw materials and finished products into the economy. No one would train it through clicking and get those raw materials.

Because they are no less than someone who puts in hard work.

They should be able to have less fun with it.

Yes, as human beings, you're right. They are worth the same. This is where communism and capitalism come into play. I'm going to use an analogy, and please don't take it out of context like you did to my other one. Imagine a company. You have workers there who are unexperienced and unqualified and people who are veterans and have been with the company for years. Who do you give more benefits to? The one who's been loyal and has more experience. These people have put different amounts of focus into the game. And someone who puts more focus in should be able to enjoy it more, and we agree on that. But tell me, what are you actually talking about? In your rant, you really bring up broad and general ideas and don't use a single specific example or reference in the game. Most lower levels aren't members, and shouldn't be since they aren't acclimated with the game. Most minigames that higher levels enjoy are...members...higher levels STILL have to click for what they want too btw.

I'm not adressing your next quote because you took it out of context and aren't really adressing what i have to say.

Raising Morale leads to good things. And I do think that making the changes I have outlined would help lower the incidence of making less playing players feel inferior.

Not right now.

Why not? Simply replace the grinding with fun, and fun is present. I do provide actual changes. Evil trees should be the way to train FM and WC, not constantly clicking on a log and then a tinderbox.

No, i really don't think it does. You think pretty highly of the players of runescape then...and you're pretty optimistic of their ability to be nicer...

Not now? read on. thanks.

Gah! You can't have your cake and eat it too! You have to work hard for the things you want in the game! You have to put in time and maybe hurt a little bit! Sure, there could be some more ways to make skills easier. I frankly believe the mining skill is really out of date and needs an update. But by making minigames that are fun and equivalent to cutting down trees, you're making the game SOOO much easier. I don't think you realize this. I have a lot of BS points in what i've said, like the raw material thing. That wasn't so great. But this is better. If you make every skill appealing, you increase the amount of people who are willing to put in the time to achieve these goals and now suddenly everyone's high level. If you pave the path to the most revered parts in the game, then you have a flock of people traveling down that. The best things in the game should be reserved for the most dedicated, the ones who are WILLING to go down that path. If you make level 99 woodcutting FUN to get with minigames, you triple the amount of people with 99 woodcutting and diminish the sense of achievement in the game. Which, frankly, is what most people love about getting 99s and all the best things in runescape. That sounds really bad on paper, but apply it to the game. If you sugarcoat the ways of getting a level 99, a level 99 doesn't become anything near what it used to be. you need some sort of challenge, and this challenge in runescape comes in the form of a mental one. You're trying to destroy that. In addition, if you have a minigame for every skill in the game to make it more fun...think about it. If you want to raise a skill high, you're going to do that minigame. A lot. A lot. And guess what? We're RIGHT back where we started. Take pest control. You want to get high combat? Sure, play it. It's really fun...but bad news. You're going to be doing a helluva lot of clicking and be doing pest control quite a lot of times. You cannot avoid it.

I'd rather take my analogies in context and think about their meaning before you pretend to own me. I would disagree with that statement. In late 2007 and early 2008, capitalism was restricted, but that doesn't mean communism took its place. By removing all boundaries between levels and making everyone equal in terms of what they can do in the game at any level-- that's communism

i don't understand why the %^&* you are analyzing runescape

it's a game, you don't have to write a short story about it :wall:

let's think here.. i play the game so i can, obviously, be better than others. so i can express my dominance over those who don't play as much as me, or haven't gotten as lucky as me. this is how it is on all MMO's. this is why runescape attracts so many people. if we didn't play to show people how good we were, we wouldn't have skillcapes, or even highscores(ftmp). if you find it to be a "chore" then don't play the game. if you have that attitude, any MMO is surely a chore. the reason so many people play runescape is that its not a complete grindfest and then you can openly express your 'work' and achievements in an outward manor. runescape is good for self esteem, so is no scoping people in halo

These are some great ideas. I especially agree with the fact that training should be less repetitive and more fun. That's what a game is, right? If we implemented that, as well as being less dependent on having insane amount of money, I think the game would be much fairer for everybody.

All talk of Commiescape aside.....

Why do people always think that if it's fun, it's too easy? Things can be both hard and fun. Perhaps since people are not being uncomfortable or being put in tedious situations, they don't think it is hard. The hours pass much faster when having fun, or so they say.

In Runescape, people equate tedium with skill. THIS MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. At most, it's a test of endurance, but at least, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SKILL AT ALL IN DELIVERING BONES. It's just point A to point B, and then back to point A. Same with runecrafting, same with woodcutting, same with mining, same with smithing, same with every damned thing besides combat. And even combat is just watching some other guy fight, but since this is at the heart of most RPGs, I suppose it'd be silly to remove that aspect. Plus you can't exactly knock fighting when there's so many aspects to it.

Yes, I know this is how things are in the real world, but this is a game. We can do whatever the hell we want with the world if we were creative enough about it. Who needs to endlessly punch rocks with a pick like real life? Why not let us say, operate nonsensical dwarven drilling machines, and have to go out and search for minerals? What would be wrong with making things fun? You could conceivably spend the same amount of time getting the same amount of exp and resources, but with a fun minigame that you could enjoy playing. Would this reduce your overall effort whatsoever? It wouldn't be realistic to be able to get to level 99 in a day, but at the same time, it wouldn't be a living hell to do it. Why do we even play games that make it a living hell?

I guess the way RS was developed, the community is pretty much made up of whoever stayed behind because they like the way things are in this game, but frankly, things could be better. Maybe this game isn't the place to do it, but they don't try, somebody else will.

Thank you for writing like this(I realize some people dislike wall of texts, but I tend to not mind reading). I'll respond to this point by point.

Now, I would like to replace working hard with enjoying. This being a game, I don't find anything wrong with that.

I don't want to make the game "easier" as in 1 day to level 99, I want to make leveling fun, while still keeping the long times, so that people don't feel that raising skills is a chore.

If more people decide to get 99 Woodcutting by having fun, then that's a side effect I cannot control. I would see that as a good thing however. One thing I would like to note would be that people would not be so 99-crazy, since there would be more to 99 fletching than the cape.

There are, I'm sure, things for people who like to hurt their hands just so that they can feel that they have done something very few others have. I am not saying to remove those except for in the case of skills. 99 Woodcutting has really little benefit over 75. Nobody would care for 99 when they are having fun playing a Woodcutting mini-game. They would get bored at the WC mini-game and move somewhere else.

Clicking 5,000,000 times is not a mental challenge. It's a chore. Winning every game of Castle Wars for maximum exp is a challenge.

Correct. This is why 99s would still be rare. People will cycle through the different fun stuff.

Right. This is understandable. But it depends on how you show your dominance. Calling level-40's "noob" is not the right way.

Right. You're regurgitating my ideas. Then you're being openly hostile by telling me to stop playing. And A MMO where I can level while enjoying myself won't be a chore.

And what I'm trying to change is that your work doesn't represent hours of boredom, it should bring back memories of enjoying healthy competition. And please articulate why being called "noob", "no-lifer", and whatever else the censor doesn't redact is good for your self-esteem?

Get rid of the time it takes to level (this kinda goes along with the super easy no grind to lvl idea you said)

Get rid of the need for money to level (great it makes your super easy lvls that are super fast too take even less time *since the need for money is gone*)

Get rid of the supremacy you feel for maxing out a hard skill like Runecrafting (gee in your version of runescape what feeling of supremacy would even exist if everyone was maxed out anyways...)

I dont pay for commiscape. The trade updates are bad enough. I dont want equality, i want the hardest worker or luckiest player to succeed where everyone else fails. Seeing as how as a player i am neither hard working or lucky i think it is fair for me to say that.

Gee sounds to me like runescape ISNT for you. You need to be playing a casual game. All your ideas besides the ones about Precedents scream casual gamer.

Yes.

No. Definitely NO. I don't want to alleviate how long it will take to level these skills. I want to alleviate the toil and repetition.

No. Definitely NO. I don't want to alleviate how long it will take to level these skills. I want to alleviate the toil and repetition.

They're not super easy or super fast. I would argue that many would be harder since they can't be trained AFK.

No. You cannot get rid of supremacy. A skill cape earned through donkey work should not represent supremacy. A skill cape earned through skill might.

I don't want equality either. What do you mean by succeed where everyone else fails? You cannot "fail" anything in runescape. Except an agility course perhaps. Was this sentence used for dramatic effect? because the meaning is very unclear.

Yes, at its current state, sadly, Runescape isn't for me. Although I'm nothing of a casual Gamer. Check my stats. Plus, I have an i7 940 rig with a GTX 260 55nm which screams with gaming power.

you do infact have some good points. i see where you are going. my early days of runescape DO bring back good and enjoyable memories, so do the (extremely nooby) videos and screenshots i took.

and i also understand what you mean that the game is just a bunch of clicking. i took a very long break from runescape, and in that time i become quite popular at school, enjoyed a great social life, and became one of the top 5 members on the track team. one day, a few of the guys that i chilled with started talking about runescape.. secretly- using terms such as "rs"- using many pronouns, but they used a few key-terms which turned on my runescape censor. i asked them if they were talking about runescape, very defensively: they admitted it.

it was then that i realized that what i have worked for on runescape and what i've accomplished in my several years playing not only justifies my time spent online but builds my character in reality. it was on this day that i started playing runescape again, and although i'm not putting in more than 2-3 hours a day, i still love it. even though all my cash has been hacked away, i enjoy signing on some days and just admiring my account- some people would kill to have it. my no-lifing, nerd days, have finally come to a close; however i can still reap the reward as often as i choose- noble aloof is, and forever will be, my hard work. only 330,000/8,500,000 people have more skill than me. i've come to appreciate that.

Or

Decent Argument from TIF Poster: "well, if the game isn't any fun, there are others to find."

Stuck up Gpguy: "Well I'll stay and complain. But first I'll try and debase you and also destroy your arguments with my superior irrelevant analogies.

Don't compare the incomparable.

He's is mainly right; most of the stuff you so claim is egregious; are really only preferences you have. I don't think Lvl 3's should have access to every thing; because they're supposed to be a challenge. If you don't like it, sorry. You don't have to like it. Also, it isn't the high level's fault if you feel incompetent or inferior. If I say "yay! I have 99 Herb" and you take offense, that's your problem; and not mine.

Now then; when it comes to something like this; if you don't like it, you can either do two things:

Suggest Change

Leave.

The first hasn't worked, so try the second option.

to saruman44: OK, thanks, your input is appreciated. I will most definitely go play some different game if I don't like runescape.

Your sardonic post isn't appreciated. You're basically belittling people for having different opinions.

Oh, I'm sorry. You're completely right. I should stop respectfully discussing the validity of my post with erudite debaters like Dalcyte. Instead, I should devote my time to thoughtfully responding to each of your Hostile revilements.

First off; stop using so-called "intelligent" words. Your vernacular does not make you look smart, but elitist; egotistical; and arrogant. Most of your half assed words aren't even used correctly. Yet you think you're "all that" because; you hope if you throw in too many big words; people will concede to the fact that YOU, GpGUY have the ONLY right opinion in all of Runescape! My God! (oh wait, sorry, we all know God's dead) you should be running Runescape! Not the highly trained team of specialists who already try to cater to every whim of the morbid cesspool known as Runescapers. Now, get off your god damn ivory tower and just admit; that people can be right, and so can you at the same time. Opinions a re such a wonderful thing; it's such a damn shame when self righteous bigots like you shut them all down.

And oh please, your ego is brobdingnagian enough (hey look a big word!@) alone; with out your incessant attempts to redeem yourself as the all knowledgeable GpGuy. Your responses are oh so much more hostile then theirs, you just hide behind a faux facade of wanna-be superiority.

And besides; you didn't even refute my post.

No. Definitely NO. I don't want to alleviate how long it will take to level these skills. I want to alleviate the toil and repetition.

Then what the hell do you want? No skill in this game is so easy that you can click a button ONCE and get tons of experience. Besides, the only way to alleviate toil and repetition is to reduce the amount of repetition within repetition, such as bury-X, offer-X, burn-X, converting Mining to use a system similar to Woodcutting and Fishing, and so forth and so on.

No. You cannot get rid of supremacy. A skill cape earned through donkey work should not represent supremacy. A skill cape earned through skill might.

There is NO skill in clicking a mouse. My 3 year old nephew can do that. However, all it takes if a few [hundred] thousand clicks to get 99s in RuneScape, or max your level out in any major MMO out there. What you're proposing is changing the very foundation of MMOGs the world over, and I don't think you have the skill or knowhow to begin tackling that problem.

In Runescape, people equate tedium with skill. THIS MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

Exactly.

Well that's the way it is. It isn't like you can show skill online anyway, unless you were designing something to solve the 88th derivative of (449127x^919-1221x^912)/(sin^3x).

No, clicking does not equate skill. But how the HELL else are skills going to be represented in a fantasy game? Do you want us to draw our weapons and armor from now on? Do you want us to cook the real fish we catch in this game to prove that we are master chefs? You're not being clear about this!
