archimage_a
Pretty self explanatory. Does this forum need a moderator* or is it alright how it is? Just thought I would ask people before I tried to negotiate a promotion. : Edit: *I mean a specific moderator, because the global moderators have such a wide area to cover. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
Bauke
Uhm, doesn't every forum need a moderator? And you have global moderators, so I'm guessing this forum is already covered? Seeing the amount of spam accounts that register on these forums, I'd say no forum could do without the watchful eye of one who is capable of moving posts to the garbage bin. quelmotz
I agree that this forum seriously needs a specific moderator too. I mean the subtitle for the "debate club" says "for players who want to participate in SERIOUS debates/discussions" or something along the lines of that. From what I see, many of the threads here don't involve "serious" debates and discussions, more like 1 word-1 sentence answers  Click here for an awesome suggestion to revive smithing! Bauke
Yes, a moderator that could judge threads based on whether it's a real debate or not would be good. Although it's not that hard to judge, and topics could be easily moved to general discussion or questionnaires by perhaps a global mod or w/e. Most important thing is that threads are subjected to the judgement of a moderator that decides whether it's a real debate or not. I agree that there are a lot of topics on this forum that are sub par. haggisoflife
yes - but they would need to give people a good amount of leyway on how 'passionate' they could get.
archimage_a
Are we talking about flame here? There is a big difference, in my opinion, between flame and heated debating...it depends where the arguement is targeted, if it is at the person 'Your idea is stupid because you are' then it is flame, whereas 'Your idea is stupid because Runescape doesn't work like that' is on the cusp....while 'Runescape doesn't work like that, so your idea probably won't work' is debate material. Obvouisly nothing is as clear cut as that. Idea: Hall of Flame(Sorry about the title) anything which is considered a flame is deleted from the post, but then reposted in a locked sticky...so we can remember the times that people lost it and remember what not to do. Though the excessively offensive would probably just be deleated. Thoughts and Feedback? http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts. Bauke
You mean put people to shame by moving their post to a hall of shame? Sounds like a bad idea. I'd say flaming should just be removed. If you want someone to learn from that particular post, send a PM afterwards. tripsis
First of all, I think it's great that you're thinking about spending some time moderating this forum, arch :) I think we should have a dedicated moderator in every forum if we can. But I'd also like to remind all the users to use the report function. I think a lot of people forget that it exists or just don't bother using it. Moderators do not have built in radar machines. If spam or flames are not removed, it doesn't mean that they're okay. It means that a moderator simply never saw them. Moderators cannot check every single post in every single thread in every single forum. Things do slip through the cracks. Several of you have mentioned that you have seen spam and flames in this forum. I would like to encourage every single one of you to report rule breaking posts as you see them. We moderators do work very hard to remove all the spam and flames we can, but it's impossible for us to get every single thing without your help. Users play a huge role in the removal of inappropriate posts. So remember: if you see spam or flames, don't reply to it. Don't ignore it. Don't leave it alone. Don't think "Oh someone else will handle it." REPORT IT! But don't reply to it, just report it and THEN you can ignore it and leave it alone ;) I just wanted to take this moment to remind you guys of the important role that you play in keeping these forums clean. Yes the moderators do the actual removing of posts, but we could NEVER do it without the help of you guys. If you want someone to learn from that particular post, send a PM afterwards. I don't think that we should be shaming people. Only recording different Flames so that those words will be there for a long time to remind them what they have done, but no one else needs know it was them. I was thinking back to when I first joined and was a right 'noob'. Now I was on Varrock, which did not get moderated to an amazingly high standard(though I was eventually 'caught')...Like Tripsis said users have to report post so that mods know, so those posts are still there in the bowels of Varrock. But now that I have grown up I have a document on my desktop with all my flames and idiot behaviour in, and whenever I think 'Noob' I remember that I was once like that, and it helps me not flame back and, before I became a mod, it made sure I reported them. So its not about shaming people into not doing it, its about going 'This is what has happened in the past, is this going to happen in the future?' Its all to easy to go 'yeah I was a bit silly when I was new, but I never did something like that.' http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. haggisoflife
Flaming = Bad Heated & Passionate discussion = Good Telling the difference = nightmare Basically we need someone who won't pull the plug on a discussion just because two people are involved in a heavy debate over it. I think that Hall of Flame would be great, should show where the line is and set the rule by precident and example rather than wording =D>

Makoto_the_Phoenix
Yeah, I feel a dedicated moderator to these boards would be a welcome addition. jimmy_jim
I believe this forums needs a moderator, even though I don't post in this forums often, I do read it a lot. The majority of the posts are constructive, though some people go a bit to far to prove their point. Pythonic
People can debate, which of course generally isn't pretty because two (or more) people are disagreeing about something. The issue is some people don't know where to draw the line at arguing your point and doing your best to be polite at the same time as opposed to using sarcastic comments and being an overall annoyance to the debaters. Yes, you should get a specific moderator for this forum. Where arguments happen, trouble usually follows.
drapit
The fact that it's the Debate Club and not Questionnaires needs to be enforced too. Debating =/= one-word answer about which skillcape or training technique is better. Agreed. The moderator on debates shouldn't just sieve flames from debate heat, but also continually fuel debates so that topics don't just dwindle into yes/no answers or one-liners, but real exchange of opinions. This job ain't gonna be a breeze.

archimage_a
Hey, fact finding post: Should there be a limit to how long a thread can go on? For example: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=143&t=792829 I feel it has reached a point where it is only being critised or supported, there is no debate capacity. Thoughts? http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.
Shazarabbit
I disagree, I'm a regular reader of this forum and rarely have I found a post that has needed to be specifically removed. With the current amount of moderators and applications with the trainee program I'm sure there will be more available anyways. I find the quality of debates decreased since being removed from under Rants, but that's just me. It would be nice to have some activity. I myself am guilty of not responding to topics. :wall: Proud Tip.It Moderator December 07 - October 2009Proud TETAU Member 2006 - 2007 <3"I had a standing agreement with god.
