Seriously, you guys are right jackasses.

Take the [bleep]ing topic seriously, or stop [bleep]ing posting, grow the hell up then come back.

Yes, it is entirely possible to meet someone on RS and [bleep]in' love them. People can be telling the goddamn truth, but the unfortunate thing is, you can meet someone who seems [bleep]ing perfect for you, and it changes in a goddamn instant.

Ratchet and those encouraging him, I say it again. Grow up.

O.K. litsen you can't have a girlfriend/boyfriend in rs you can have a frendship with someone but your forgeting one important thing about a relationship physical attraction. You can't have that in a game. Now if you want a girlfriend/boyfriend then search your town there's someone out there for everyone but it doesn't apply for a game.

If you're going to do internet dating, go on match.com or something. Or go out in the real world and get a real girlfriend/boyfriend/animal/whatever floats your boat.

Because Runescape dating is free. Sad, but free.

well... there are SHALLOW reasons why rs dating is free, mostly concerning money. For instance you save money in the fact that you don't ACTUALLY spend time together doing stuff like going to the cinema, going to the beach etc.

tbh though, actually having physical contact with your partner is a much better way to be in a relationship ;)

I for one met a girl on Runescape, knew her for a long time, eventually met her in person when she moved in with her sister, on the other side of Tampa Bay, and we ended up dating for over a year.

I never once though considered her my girlfriend on Runescape. Before, during, or after we actually dated.

I personally don't find anything wrong with meeting someone on rs and dating them. phone conversations will rule out the 40 year old pedofile and give you a general idea of who you are talking to.

Most teenage boys are obsessed with the physical aspect of relationships- if your online relationship goes beyond lending e.o items/free stuff then more power to you. The fact that the guy is happy with being with the girl and not having any physical contact should be praised- it shows that he cares for the girl for who she isnt using her for .... you get it....

How often this actually happens I don't know. I'm guessing a relatively low number. The fact that this kind of a couple MAY exist is enough for me to not make fun of online couples.

FTR I have a gf irl and I don't personally date online so please don't start with that...

What I don't get is why people make fun of someone meeting their boyfriend/girlfriend on RuneScape, but no one says anything bad about sites like Match.com or EHarmony, where the GOAL is to meet people online. If you play RuneScape, meet someone of the opposite sex, start talking and become friends, continue talking and really like each others' personalities.. I don't get why it's so bad to start dating. Yes there are obvious dangers but there are dangers of dating in real life too. When it comes to internet dating, people say "Omg your 20 year old hot girlfriend could be a 50 year old fat guy who plays RuneScape all day!" Well when it comes to real life dating, there is PLENTY of deception. In fact, when it comes to LIFE there is deception. Your boyfriend/girlfriend could turn out to be a violent drunk or a psychopath or a murderer.. or just a backstabber/cheater. So yes, someone that you meet online could turn out to be someone different. But if your relationship is serious, then you would do a whole lot more than accepting one picture as proof of who the person is.

So does this mean I agree with people walking around ASKING for RuneScape boyfriends or girlfriends? Does this mean I agree with people giving out their address or phone number to someone they met online after 1 week? Absolutely not. But if you meet someone online that you really really like, you would be a fool to pass them up just because you are separated by distance. Plenty of people all around the world have met their husbands/wives online, have since gotten married and maybe even had kids. What if they had passed up the opportunity?

My point is that the people who claim to be dating on RS tend to just be really good friends. No need to hate on it.

I was originally thinking that Rachet was being overly frank, but this just proves everything. Dating someone implies a serious, romantic relationship with said person. If you know that person in real life and are just furthering that relationship online, that's different from getting a boyfriend/girlfriend online in the first place.

It's not dating if it's not romantic. What you're describing is just "hanging out". This is almost as /facepalm as those noobs on the rsof who think merchanting = price manipulation.

Getting a "romantic" relationship online is like sticking your hand above the stove and striking your finger across the hot eye. If you do it right (mutual "mind messing"), you won't get hurt. Do it wrong, and you could end up with a 2nd degree burn.

It's also about as lol as watching hundreds of girls at the movie theater drooling over Edward.

the only reason people have rs gf/bf is because they're protected behind a computer screen. Behind a computer screen, you can be someone you aren't or will ever be in real life. you can act as badass and cool as you want, but when you step out into the real world, you're a nobody. face it, its the truth.

What I don't get is why people make fun of someone meeting their boyfriend/girlfriend on RuneScape, but no one says anything bad about sites like Match.com or EHarmony, where the GOAL is to meet people online.

That's because, as you've stated, the GOAL is to meet people online. Runescape is not a place to meet the love of your life, especially when that love is a 10 year old boy or a greasy 40 year old pedophile. Looking for love in Runescape is like trawling around Chuck E Cheese for a date, whereas Match.com and Eharmony have a much better system for making sure children don't get in.

If you play RuneScape, meet someone of the opposite sex, start talking and become friends, continue talking and really like each others' personalities.. I don't get why it's so bad to start dating.

That's because you'll never see your "love" on Runescape, as opposed to a dating site where you'll actually set up something in real life.

I've never heard of anyone on Match.com or Eharmony getting duped by a boy pretending to be a girl, so there's no real comparison there. That's like equating eating out of a dumpster to a five star restaurant because, hey, five star restaurants have bad food every now and then.

But if your relationship is serious, then you would do a whole lot more than accepting one picture as proof of who the person is.

A Runescape-love is never a serious relationship. Chopping wood together and occasionally typing /kiss while calling each other babe doesn't constitute a relationship.

I think the overall point is that Jagex doesn't want people using their service as a match.com/Eharmony, considering they made such solicitation against the rules a LONG time ago. It's against the rules to start relationships on Runescape, and I make a habit of reporting anyone who says "omg gf pl0x" or "need rich bf".

What you described is a rarity. There are cases of people meeting in video games and living happily ever after, but those are once in a blue moon. Most of the time it boils down to a few people in WoW cybering, or a few people in Runescape going /kiss and calling each other babe before someone doesn't pay someone else extortionate amounts of geepees so they go find another bf/gf who is rich.

To be honest, there is nothing wrong with Internet Dating. I've had an early relationship with a girl I met online, but it was just a summer fling, nothing serious. Now just because you think it is wrong, doesn't mean it is inherently wrong for everyone. It's just a preference on how someone wants to conduct themselves in their social relationships. If someone wants to date online, then let them. JUST because you don't know what someone looks like nor know fully if they are telling the truth or not, that isn't a reason to bash. Isn't trust a major quality in relationships? On those premises, I don't think it is wrong to be dating someone online. I have some good friends I have met through runescape and they are quality friendships. Why does there have to be a line drawn between friendships and dating relationships?

Online dating, if you know the person, is alright. And I mean going on a dating site, getting to know a bit about them, then finally meeting up somewhere. Of course there is danger in that as well (they can always make up there info) but the problem here is it is runescape. It's a game. Not a "Habbo Hotel". When I was a kid I'd see all this bf/gf stuff and want to get involved, but I never did. Now I'm older, I just laugh at it. Telling a pixelated character you love them is as bad as falling in love with a Manga character. It's STUPID.

I'm sure, your way of "dating" someone on Runescape breaks a few rules there.

I'm fine with people dating but only (ONLY!) if they know them in real life, otherwise it's really sad.

(Said before) When dating someone on Runescape, they could be: Adults, Kids, Weirdo's, 13 year olds and males/females (what you are usually). You never know and it's risky finding out.

Homer: So if we don't all vote the same way we'll be "deadlocked" and be "sequestered" at the Springfield Hotel, where we'll get Free Room, Free TV, Free Food, Free HBO. OOH! Free Willy!

Skinner: Homer I think this has something more to do than a disobedient whale.

Homer: Okay, how are the rest of you voting.

Every member of the Jury: Guilty.

Homer: How many "S'" in innocent?

*Jury groans*

Homer: I'm only doing what I think is right. I believe Freddy Quimby should walk out of here a free hotel.
