Gamestop/EBGames

I've only ever bought a couple new games from EB Games, found they were a bit pricey compared to other stores. But from what I've read buying used seems to be the reason to shop there. May have to look into it some more.

GAME is the only store that has a branch near to where I live, and I've never had any problems with it. They always seem to have some kind of offer on too, which is great. It's not a big shop, but considering the size of town I live in it's better than nothing. My only gripe is that the staff constantly ask me "if my PC meets the minimum spec" even though I know most of them :P

I occasionally buy stuff on Steam too, but only if I can't find it in GAME. Despite all the advantages of downloads, I still like having a boxed copy.

Yeah we only have GAME stores here too, i've never had any problems with them, and out of roughly 20 used games i've brought from there, only one didn't work fully, and that was halfway through the game.

I feel the same way as the OP, 85% of the time i walk in to Gamestop they just glare at me like "Oh here comes some teenager I bet hes going to steal somethin!" There never friendly or helpful...I swear some of there emploies (yes i know i cant spell #-o) just work there so they can play games all day and get payed for it..like what the OP said, everytime i go up to the damn counter there like "Do you want a gamestop card for X amount of $$ it come w/ our mag for a year!" Sometimes ill go to Best Buy and buy the new one for like 5$ more then there used games...

Sounds like most of your problems are based on that particular store you go to.

Exactly. I never had trouble with GameStop. Ever.

[bleep] their monopoly. At least on trading games in. I'm buying a videogame, not a new car.

Apart from that, cool place though. Never guy games there anymore, can get them on Amazon for at least five dollars less. Woo.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

I love amazon. I get free shipping, I pay no sales tax, and with ECA I get 10% off all gaming purchases. Saves me a ton of money. Plus their daily gold box deals (the personalized ones) always give me 5%-10% off 3-7 games. I never have to look far to find great deals there.

You are supposed to pay sales tax on Web purchases when you do your taxes.

No you don't. You only pay sales tax if the store is physically in your state. If it isn't, then the state has no right to tax you.

Yes, it can tax you. It is called use tax, and you have to pay it no matter where the company you are purchasing from is located.

Is EBGames, aka Gamecrazy :?:

No, EBGames is AKA EBGames. Gamecrazy is a completely seperate franchise...

EB GAMES SITE:

Oddly, their site is absolutely the same as Gamestops, so I wonder why they don't just call all EBGames Gamestop or something. Would it make it more impossible to have two game stores in one small mall?

Hehe, I have only bought 3 games in the history of my purchasing experiences from gamespot. I bought brothers in arms (the double pack with RTH30 and EIB in the same case), Dark Crusade, and Dead Rising. Well, Brothers in Arms sucked bad. I had to download about 1gb of stuff to make it work, then it turns out that It doesn't work on my model of computer for whatever reason. I go to return it with a receipt and everything, and they said I can't because of some stupid reason (I can't remember why, it was about a year ago). Dark crusade and Dead Rising were fine though.

So, I try EB games. There trade-in offers are decent, they DO return games (but I have had some trouble in the past), the staff are pretty friendly where I live (I know all the guys that work there, on eof them is my friends older brother :P) and they have regular sales. Problem is, even when they have there sales games are damn expensive. I mean CRAZY expensive. Like $10 off a $110 game. So, it still cost me $100. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like I have a freaking $100 bill in my pocket wherever I go.

So, I usually go to JB's. They have games at cheaper prices, often have sales, return games with little fuss, and you can trade in some of your games in exchange for some cash off. Pretty cool actually ;)

It's a method of making money. Just like how (assuming you know these phone companies) Fido is actually under Rogers, but many people prefer Fido to Rogers even though the money is practically going the same place and they use the same network. It's just a way so that if a customer is unhappy with one chain they can choose a 'different' one cause it appears to be separate with different policies.

Ended up going in there to trade stuff in because I was desperate for a game.

Traded in both Kingdom Hearts 2 and Hitman Blood Money. Got 6.50 for them both. Used it to buy Zone of Enders, Mafia, and Manhunt. All three work fine, except I just learned Manhunt only works with real PS2 memory cards and not the cheap MadKatz one I have.

There was a new guy at the counter. He was pretty nice. He didn't shove any offers into my face, and I thought he was the best cashier in the history of Gamestop. He got my games, never asked if I wanted to preorder or buy an Edge card. Awesome.
