ElkNight
I recommend listening to the album 10,000 days from begining toend while skipping over "viginti tres". Three amazing songs on there including "Vicarious" , "Jambi" , and "Right in Two". You skipped the best songs(s) Wings for Marie (Pt 1) and 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2) I can't say I got into those as much as the other songs on that album. There just doesn't seem like any coherent "point" to them. Points are for squares. I havent listened to Tool in forever. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers! How she was so devoted to her faith that she was going to heaven and all the half assed Christians that she went to church with were not going to heaven. I also think he was trying to say that when people die they will be judged according to their own beliefs rather than a set of beliefs applied to everyone. I.e. Christians will be judged by their doctrine, Muslims by theirs, and so on. At least that's what I got out of it. Whenever I listen to 10,000 days, I can't help but feel all the songs sound like they're going somewhere except Wings 1+2. Those two just sound like they have no solid direction. His mother had terminal cancer for 20 odd years at an estimated (get this) 10,000 days. The whole album has religious ties, and soon after the death of his mom Maynard became a devout Christian. He also later wrote another song about her called "Judith" released under his other band, A Perfect Circle. Also I completely forgot to mention the song from that album "The Pot". Good [wagon] song. Good [wagon] song. #-o First of all, she did not have cancer, she had an aneurysm and was paralyzed for 27 years. Secondly, almost every Tool album has "religious ties" or philosophical "religious" themes. 10,000 Days actually had fewer songs than most that would be considered religious. Thirdly, Keenan did not later release "Judith". He released it EARLIER. 6 years earlier actually on Mer De Noms. And finally, Keenan has never once become a Christian in his life. That is just plain ridiculous. He released a joke to MTV News about how he was a Christian, but he was only messing with the media that ate it right up. Range_This11
Mer de Noms is an A Perfect Circle album. Right, I know. I was just emphasizing the fact that it wasn't later. I'll just edit out the A Perfect Circle Part. "He could climb to it, if he climbed alone, and once there he could suck on the pap of life, gulp down the incomparable milk of wonder." Zierro
I always thought Wings for Marie was a point to show that Maynard's love for his mother was stronger than his hatred towards religion, which is saying a lot. Well whatever the point of that song was, I'm pretty sure Maynard never became a Christian.

das
When I saw this thread title, I had to switch what was playing to schism on itunes - Great song, But tool has always been a one hit wonder for me - thats the only song of theres i've ever listened to more than like 3 times. Maybe that's just me though. Pink floyd is a great band, I hated them growing up, but i've come to appreciate alot of thier songs - from Bike - to When the Tigers Broke Free. It's a music that requires an acquired taste (Tool probably does too) But to me I consider them on the same area of visionaries as REM/Zeppelin. Artists who will always transcend time with there works "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. Saru Inc
@ Das, well that's probably why I don't like them. I hate REM and Zeppelin. I have all the 99s, and have been playing since 2001. I stopped paying much attention to Tool non-music wise right around when Maynard announced his Christianity. I guess I never caught the word that it was a joke. I didn't even realize that "Judith" was released before 10,000 days. Figures I get raped by a guy with a Tool sig. Oh, well. At least I've been educated. Poopingman
I can't get into either one. Pink Floyd bores me....Tool is kind of interesting for a minute or so but it never clicks with me. Metal fans, check out my band!Still the King....
Erk02
pink floyd is a good band, tool ive never heard of. people like pink floyd because its a classic rock band, so it has history. they are also a bit wierd at time, from i think it was comfortably numb, they sang,"and the wooorms ate into his brain." its just some sort of aura that somehow makes even those moments relaxing. What exactly are you talking about? Pink Floyd is progressive rock, and the song Comfortably Numb comes off of The Wall, one of their most popular albums. It makes sense in the context. You should probably learn more about them before you talk about them. I like King Crimson more, to be honest.:o I never would have thought of you as a KC fan. What's your favourite album? You guys got me into KC. I have to be original and say In The Court of the Crimson King, because it's the first one I ever heard. Just sounds like it would go great with some sort of sweeping Greek epic plus spaceman kind of movie. If I ever make a movie (a serious thought of mine), I would so most def use KC. Plus I've never been too impressed with Pink Floyd. I mean, my favorite song is "Wish You Were Here". Real Floydians would [bleep] kill me.Most KC fans kill me because I like their 1980s sound most. Discipline is a [bleep] great album and if you don't have it, I recommend picking it up as soon as you can. It's very rare for every song on an album to stick with me. It's considerably more relaxed and mellow than their earlier albums and they've lost the jazz fusion, which is why I love it so much. Great choice, my friend. Discipline and Larks' Tongues in Aspic are my favorites. As for Pink Floyd and Tool, if you don't understand their respective genres, you will never understand them. Pink Floyd's Animals was the album whose lyrics got me into Elliot Smith, and their Dark Side of the Moon got me into prog rock like King Crimson and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. I do English to Japanese and Japanese to English translation for free! Just keep it under 5 sentences, and PM me to use my fluency in Japanese to your advantage! Dexek
I simply like how they sound and can interpret the lyrics. I don't try to make my reasoning for liking something more complicated than it is. I especially like Tool. I'd say my 3 favourites are Jambi, Vicarious, and 46 & 2 in no particluar order. PoetryIndexed Picture 1Indexed Picture 2 Killed my maxed Zerker pure April 2010 Rebooting Runescape
