How bout an alien empire has sent a transport to Earth in order to invade, however something goes terribly wrong and most of the ship explodes! (Rosswell incident)

 

 

Most of the Lichtes are killed in the blast, but some manage to stay alive long enough to reproduce. Their spawn begin to grow, only aware of a bit of the old technical knowledge (rifles and tanks, basically 2009 technology but with different fun names).

 

They settle in a location, and it progresses from there. :)

StarGate = Gate that allows travell to and from stars, just like spaceship = ship that allows travell to, from and through space.
