New Civ: The Federation of War Dissenters(Will change this later but for the time being)

Though various interplanetary means a Federation of War Dissenters has formed, a group opposed to global bombardment and mutually assured destruction. As the clocks strike an hour to midnight sixty separate transport vessels(all carrying 150,000 people each, 9 million total) being streaking away from their designated flight plan, approximately an hour from warp capable zone.

After an hour of flight they will go to warp, eventually arriving, in Adrigas, in 2 days/years time (58 hours time.(Monday 9 AM GMT))

Explained:

Tachyon Theory- Allows research of Tachyon, faster than light particle, devices.

Genetic Theory- Allows research of genetic alternations and creations.

Unified Options Plan- Allows unique attributes(discussed below)

 

Water Fruit- Fruit which grows in water. Similar to a tomato plant but with a much faster latency. It grows at .05 MPH. It acts like a great filter, sucking everything in and then dividing it into different pods. So there will be Sodium Chloride(Salt) pods, Blood pods and so on and so forth. Since the entire project is genetic it has been underway ever since the Federation was founded, just after the first inklings of war were seen.

New Metal- A project to discover a new alloy which will be stronger than anything before it. I will roll a twenty sided dice at the end to get its GPa(The stress it can take before bending/breaking) and times the result by ten.(Carbon Nanotubes, the current strongest thing has a GPa of 63, Steel has a GPa of between .7 and 1)

Tachyon Jump Drive- Using unbalanced Tachyons(Unbalanced Tachyons are particles which just go in a circle faster than light) with unbalanced hull plating to create a light speed jump, effectively shortening the time taken to speed up, but not to slow down. The Jump Drive can only be used in Tachyon seeded space, as creating the particles as you go along is impossible as you would collide with them before you created them due to relativity. The direct effect of this is to allow vessels with the Jump Drive to jump directly to warp speed, and can be used with .5 light years of a gravitational body.

Gated Torpedoes- Using the reverse of the above to create torpedos which can pass though a ships own armour. A burst of linear Tachyons(Tachyons which go forward) is fired though a 'gate' of Unbalanced Tachyons, followed by a 'Gate' of Photons, then a gate of Polarized Steel. The linear Tachyons bind to some of the unbalanced tachyons to create unstable linear tachyons, which then bind with some of the photons, which then bind with the Polarized Steel. The particle soup then passes though the unpolarized hull plate, along with anything else it might have to travel though in the 0.00000075 seconds it is stable for(About 222 Meters). The unbalanced Tachyons(Which did not bind to anything, which is the majority) then go though fusion with the linear tachyons to produce Meta-Stable Linear Tachyons, which combine with the Photo-Tachyons to produce unbalanced tachyons and Energized Linear Tachyons. The new unstable tachyons, which are just slightly ahead of the the Energized Linear Tachyons because of relativity(The ELT have an absolutely negligible increase in mass), cease moving. This slows the ELTs by just enough for the Steel-Tachyons to catch up and fuse with the the ELT, creating Heavy Energy Tachyons. This is about 0.0000008 seconds after the initial firing(About 240 Meters). The HET then weighs about 2 pounds and if it collides with anything will deliver somewhere between 2 Trillion(American) pounds of force (Two thousand Billion English) and 8 Trillion pounds of force. At this speed the damage is immense punching a hole straight though the ship, but given that the HET Torpedo is only a few Centimeters wide the effect is negligible, unless is actually hits the main reactor/goes though a main line. The real destructive force comes from the Photo-Tachyon warhead, developing a much more reasonable fifty pounds of TNT. Gated Torpedos require a fairly massive amount of power to start up and to maintain, but to fire them only takes a modest output, about three times that of a conventional laser beam. They can also be fired at about 5 shots per minute.

Tachyon seeders- Taking the linear Tachyons and unbalancing them, then releasing them into space. Tachyons have a long life-span, around two-hundred years and using them increases that lifespan.

10th Degree Physics- Looks at using atoms which have a core of 10 Quarks, rather than the normal 3. Potentially extremely high density materials or extremely explosive materials.

Caravel Class- Named after the ancient ships used to discover America, these ships are designed to discover freedom from oppression, as well to develop a hell of a lot of raw power. The +1 is putting everything together.

Macro Array Lasers- The Caravel will feature over fifteen hundred micro laser arrays, which have a wattage in the sub-watt range. The Macro Array focuses this energy into one coherent surge on the Giga-Watt range.

Quark Fusion Core- 1/6- The Caravel will develop its massive amount of raw power by the some what misnamed Quark Fusion Core, the actual core is a Quark Fission system, splitting the fundamental sub-particles and releasing energy. Though only producing a quarter what an Anti-matter reaction would produce(170000000000000 Joules) per gram, it is much safer and easier to deal with, and is far more energy that is reasonably needed.

Ion Thruster Assembly- Simply what moves the ship. One large assembly at the back of the docking core moves the whole ship, along with sixteen small thrusters that just move the ship from side to side, up and down and general maneuvering beyond straight forward. The vessel's acceleration is 90m/s.

Ram Spike- A spike/shield at the front of the vessel designed to buttress direct attacks should they be required.

Docking Core- The non-Saucer part of the ship, this section contains the power core, the main array(There are two sub Arrays on the Saucer section with only 500 Micro-Arrays each) and Cargo. The saucer is mainly armour and a bridge, with living quarters wedged in between bulkheads.

No Money- Being total outcasts from the rest of the war hungry world they have had to leave money behind. This looked like a major stumbling block until the threat of destruction got so much that people agreed that they just needed to do something. To this end a system of Morale(Could better be called Fear of The Universe At Large) will replace money for the foreseeable future. The current morale is 40, rising to 90 when the warp drive is engaged because they will not have been blown up. From the point that they begin to settle in the Adrigas system the morale will drop by 1 point per day. If the morale ever reaches less than 40 then money will be reintroduced, but morale will still be dominate, if it falls below 30 then morale will be scraped. There is no Max Morale, the benefits(discussed below) do taper off though. Increasing Morale happens if any OTHER civilization does any of the following(By order of severity, up to 5):

Starts construction of a new attack ship

Starts construction of a large weapon

Starts research of an offensive kind

Starts a new war

Moves large numbers of ships

Mobilizes for war

Has a battle

Colonizes a new planet

Commits a generally offensive action

 

Morale will also increase by 2 when a new technology is discovered, by 10 when a new planet is colonized and by 20 when a great achievement occurs(Say the defeat of a foe's main fleet in defensive battle).

 

However, if any of the following are committed then morale will decrease(By order of severity, up to 5):

A new ship is built

A new ship starts construction

A war is started

A new planet is colonized

Generally offensive and defensive action.

 

Morale will decrease if something happens which is very good for us or something happens which is quite bad for us. Only things which provide some protection, but require more do not lead to decreases in morale.

 

Space Station- Rather than building a colony it has been decided that a space station should be built instead, and a planet colonized instead by Water Fruit. The space station will initially be an amalgamation of all the ships, but will be refined continually as new materials and devices become available.

 

Ships- The sixty transport ships will have some technology from every other race(though no new technology, unless it has been widely implemented). Further all designs are standardized taking one year to reformat and two years to refit each ship fully, no matter if one component is being changed or if all of them are.

 

Morale- The benefits and negatives of Morale.(Projects are activities of varying kinds, research or building being the key examples. Projects can be divided into sub-projects which can be worked on at the same time, so a project which has a base of 20 could be completed in 10 years, providing it could be reasonably divided into sub-projects)

At 31 Morale research/Build time takes 50 times the base and there are associated monetary costs, only 3 separate projects may be developed at one time

At 40 Morale research/Build time takes 20 times the base and there are associated monetary costs

At 50 Morale research/Build time takes 10 times the base

At 60 Morale research/Build time takes 5 times the base, only 5 separate projects may be developed at one time

At 70 Morale research/Build time takes 3 times the base

At 80 Morale research/Build time takes 1.5 times the base

At 90 Morale research/Build time goes at the base, only 10 separate projects may be developed at one time

At 100 Morale research/Build time goes at 1.5 times the base

At 110 Morale research/Build time goes at 1.8 times the base

At 120 Morale research/Build time goes at 2 times the base, only 20 different projects may be developed at one time, this does not include sub projects of a major project, which can all be developed in conjunction.

And continues to increase by .1 per 10 levels of moral and the number of projects increases by 5 per 20 levels.

I agree, I will increase the time taken to research tachyon theory(I kind of assumed that tachyons would have been discovered since we are going FTL).

Also my nation is made out of your nations, so I can jump to whatever level has already been discovered.

Trading is, currently, not an issue. The people are traveling at warp speed away from 'civilization' their primary concern is not 'how can we buy stuff' Aside from that they plan to be self sufficient, only technology might be traded in which case straight swaps would be best. If a certain material is required for some reason then either raiding parties or direct barter.

No, 9 million people, on planets all over the place(am making the map now) decided they didn't want to get killed in the war so they chartered some transport vessels, hijacked them at an hour to midnight and then fled. The repercussions should be negligible because only a few ten thousands per planet have left, and the transports were stolen from private companies. If anyone wants to react to that then please do, but otherwise it is just an inflationary point as a couple of transport companies collapse.

I'm fine with you saying your a 'rebel' faction, but you can't steal our tech because what you are proposing as your reasoning is completely absurd.

 

My entire spacefleet, presumably in the top 5 size wise, is only about 60 ships. Of those, about 20 are transport. Furthermore, there are only around 15-20 planets colonised other than Earth. (What map are you making?! Are you just godmodding random NPC civs in?)

 

Civilian's cannot "charter" trade vessels at this point in time, afaik, they're all government controlled for colonization/other stuff.

Anyway, I am not 'Stealing' tech, I am just saying that these people have grown up with your tech, so they understand how it works(in general principle) so I am not coming from 100 years ago I am coming from about 5 years ago(Military/civilian divide)

 

The map is just an update of the map on the first page since I have the software to make it look 'nice' and to correct some of the mistakes, like Imezon being closer to sol than Sinabo yet being further away LY wise. Obviously it could be Z axis but then the map is defeated because it gives no distances between other star systems, which is the other thing I am doing with my map.

 

Hmmm, I am only going with Doom's rubber stamp as my Visa. So reformatting my idea I can see two options. Either there is an uprising of about 50 million people who start a massive civil war, steal a few ships and 9 million escape to freedom, setting up for constant war which is not what I really want. OR There is an uprising of 15 million people, which the governments crush, with 3 Million fatalities and 2 million executions. The governments then, rather than kill all of them, which would take a good while and by this point the novelty has worn off, decide to exile them using a handful of colony ships, which they get back afterwards.

So 3 options:

60 low grade transport ships, probably better in the scrap heap than in space, are taken from civilian administration(It seems unlikely that ALL ships would be controlled by the Government, they can hardly make the trains run on time, let alone micromanage millions of factories, but as you please.) causing no server repercussions.

2 Battleships, 8 destroyers, 1 carrier(With half fighter compliment) and 4 transports are stolen from governments(The net total) along with about 10 million being wiped off of 4 planets and about 5 million being wiped off of the rest(Not only is it the uprising but also the army casualties), along with the destruction of probably 3 Battleships, 20 destroyers, 4 Carriers, a few dozen fighters and 9 transports. In addition to this production and taxation would be hampered for the next ten years, at least by the destruction, but that is not all, with an armada the Federation would not contend themselves to just peacefully living out their lives in fear they would go on rampages though known space, preventing growth of a number of years, and postponing the war to merely a fight to survive against rising dissent on your own world as the entire system collapses. Some will be fine, those who can automise their population or brain wash them or whatever, although that will probably cause less tax collection....

Alternatively a small civil uprising can take place, leading to about 5 million being wiped off the top 5 planets along with 1 million off all the other planets. The destruction of 12 destroyers and a few dozen fighters, and hampering progress for the next 2 years. As well as meaning about five colony ships are out of action while they transport my people.

 

So as you can see, taking the moderate view that it would be better not to annoy anyone I opted for the first one.

Alright then I will invent some new particle... probably some kind of heavy photon, or it might just have to be Quantum Entanglement or maybe just Magnicite Gates.... Would that be ok? Gates that accelerated ships up to warp speed? I Gated torpedoes could be dealt with in a similar way, probably some sort of combination of Heavy Photons to create the torpedo, along with a gate of molten steel and then a Magnicite gate to accelerate it up to Relativistic speed, allowing it to pass though my own hull, but due to drag(and the fact that it doesn't have an engine) would then fall to sub-light speed. Thus it wouldn't 'punch a hole though the ship' just blow a pretty big hole in it.

The Magnicite gates are more about getting rid of the 1 day of speeding up to warp speed. Since a major part of my people's combat time will be hit and run attacks speed is of the upmost importance and 2 years of waiting around will just cause problems with that. Slowing down at the other end will be dealt with at some point too, but for the moment...
