Mr_Putter
I have no doubt that those are great games (Civ 1-3, plus the one in question). But it's one of the few PC series' I haven't dipped into. What discouraged me is the word that people say it takes like a whole day to play 1 game...people have recorded saying up to an entire weekend in one aswell. Not that I wouldn't be at my computer all weekend anyway, but still, the fact of one game discourages me.

Evilperson
They got way too complicated for my likings...number 2 and 1 were very simple and straightforward and thats what I liked about em ( I also was 4 playing em on an ol 486 that sits in my basement with windows 3.1 on it) I should give the new one a try. . . Everybody lovin' it, but ain't no body touchin' it

xyrec
I've never tried civ out myself either but I'll probably try it out of curiosity one of these days. I'll second that notion that age of empires(aoe2 the conquerors expansion to be specific) is the greatest rts of all time. Starcraft is pretty awesome too. Actually a friend of mine has a copy of the original civ I think...maybe I should borrow it. Then there's also the bargain bin at the local Meijers, they usually have older games like that for 5 or 10 bucks. Of 1-3 is any particular one of the considered to be the best? blazer
I am a BIG civ fan and am highly anticipating Civ IV, although I don't think splashing out on the fancy edition is all that necessary. Pure strategy.... I love it. :) Oh and Civ III is currently the best in my opinion.
Pete_the_Viscous
I liked Civilisation: call to power and Alpha Centauri. A while ago I bought Civilisation III, though, and I found that one to be not as good. The reason, I think, was that, while it claimed to be more advanced and to have better AI (and all that sort of thing), I found it to be much more limiting, and that it presented far fewer options on how to play it. Perhaps that was just me; I know other people that liked it more than the others. I might get Civ 4, but if I do, it'll be after waiting long enough for it to become cheap. deviantart account

Schwarzenegger
I love Civ 3, but one thing I must admit that I hate, is when you are in the modern age, and every civ has a zillion units. It takes you 10 minutes to do your turn, then you have to wait another 20 minutes for all the computers to make their moves(exagerating, but it's still a long time). I don't know how you people play whole weekends, a game for me takes at the most 4 hours. Runescaper (off and on) since late 2001

I would like some screenys though to see what it's like. What's the point of it? I'm personally into Age of Empires (the third one is out)

dusqi
Civ is a great series, however I shall not buy the new one partly because it takes up too much time once I get started and I need to be doing other things, and partly because the concept was good but I don't think there is any need for 4 versions of it (and expansion packs), I think they're milking it. For it is the greyness of dusk that reigns. The time when the living and the dead exist as one.

RebelAssassin
Civ 2 is the best IMO, Civ 3 takes too long to load when there are 50+ citys (although you can convert age of empires units to the game, thus star wars battlefield (i thinks its called that) which runs on the AoE engine. so civ 3 star wars mod pl0x ) www.PETAkillsanimals.com

i_D_r
Civ. 2 is my favorite. Cool things about these series is they actually teach you about the development of knowledge throughout the age of Man, starting at the Classical Greek Age. And if you're even more interested in the details, they got summaries of various advancements, civilizations, and 'wonders.' Honestly I do better in my Western Civ. class because of playing these games as a kid, heh.
Not
Well the game come out last week, anyone else pick it up and are up for a Multiplayer game?
Evil_Elf
!!! This game is fantastic. I haven't enjoyed a game this much in such a long, long time. I lost faith in gaming, but damn this is fun stuff. I love the changes, just about everything is perfect, and the stuff that isn't is damn close :P . Religion is fun stuff. The second after it was installed I fired it up, chose the Arabs and 3 hours later I realized I had to do something 2 hours earlier :x. I think it took me 7 hours total (over a few days) to finish that one game. The only bad thing is how much of a time-sink this game can be. I don't care so much for the multiplayer though. Hannibal
Turn based is way too static for me. I enjoyed the demo for AOE 3, I'll be getting that when it gets out here (Europe) on Nov. 4.

Acuz I play chieftain 8) chieftian? lol, that's soo easy. i play emperor and on almost any random map i win, unless i start in a dessert, tundra, or any [developmentally delayed]ed starting position. i've played deity a few times but only won twice and i only won because i spent like 10 mins each time making new games until i got a extremely good starting spot.
