Greetings all, I was just wondering what does a Zamorakian Spear really do?

 

 

 

I was trying out the weapon speed and accuracy and it would have turned out to be worse than the abyssal whip with rune defender. If using for its crush attack, why not use dragon battleaxe or guthan warspear (if prefer 2h)... And for controlled option, abyssal whip seem to work better too. For stab attacks, why not use the one handed leaf bladed sword with rune defender? Special attack, same as dragon spear, cannot be poisoned and pretty useless outside of PvP and CW. And slash attacks, surely Saradomin Sword or Abyssal Whip + whatever shield/def, would have done a better job... And the slight prayer bonus would not make much of a difference...

 

 

 

So, when should I use my Zamorakian Spear and what should I use it for?

Corp beast and water fiends.

It has the speed of a whip with good stats and crush/stab, so it is good for waterfiends and corp.

Its stab attack is also good against dragons and a few other monsters.

Speed of whip, best stab+crush attack (when you take into account speed) of a non-degrading item, have 4 knock back specials and has a prayer bonus.

 

Only SS comes into the same league for crush and no other non-degrading item can beat the stab.

Along with Corp and Waterfiends it is also perfect at Aqua's as they are weak to stab.

Its stab attack is also good against dragons and a few other monsters.

Shield? Why use shield when you can use protect from magic + antifire pot and a muuuuch better weapon. I can get a full inventory of blue dhides with full proselyte (Neitiznot helm) and Z.Spear, 70 prayer, no potions. For Steel/Iron/Mithril Dragons/Black Dragons you tank them with high def armor. For other dragons - Piece of Cake

Best stab tool: Best weapon at Corp, Aquanites, and high-level metal dragons.

 

 

 

Good crush tool: Good weapon at Waterfiends and Gargolyes.

Not just high level metal dragons, they are useful for all high level dragons as seen in my guide. Dragonfire rarely hits and if it does you usually avoid most of the damage and if you don't its only gonna hit around 30.

Best stab tool: Best weapon at Corp, Aquanites, and high-level metal dragons.

Actually, Leaf-Bladed Sword + Rune Defender has +2 Stab over Zamorakian Spear.

 

 

 

At the cost of 20 Strength bonus.

 

 

 

Yeah, I think we know which is superior when a shield is not needed.

Zammy spear is still better. It hits harder and gives a prayer bonus as well.

The Zammy Spear is my new favorite weapon, as I use it at Waterfiends and Aquanites often.

 

 

 

I'll have to think about trying it on Gargoyles... Any other good Slayer tasks that should be crushed/stabbed, I wonder?

If you're pro, use it on iron/mithril tasks :P

It's good for stabbing green brutals, since antifire+mage pray protects 100% from their dragonbreath attack, and you have to pray mage anyway since they use a mage-based attack along with melee.

I would argue that the Saradomin Sword is better for places where you need crush, because its crush option trains strength whereas the Zammy Spear's crush option trains controlled or defensive. Strength xp is more valuable than controlled or defense xp, because you can't train it with an abyssal whip. And the damage output of the two weapons is more or less identical in crush mode.

 

 

 

However, that doesn't change the fact that the Zamorakian Spear is still the best stab weapon in the game for Aquanites and the Corporeal Beast, and that it's much cheaper than the Sara Sword for waterfiends and gargoyles with the same damage output.

Right, exactly...the best way to train is on controlled, but not because controlled is faster, because controlled lets you use a whip, and training individually would force you to switch to a weaker weapon. This convention is turned on its head at waterfiends because the whip isn't the best weapon, and you get an opportunity to train strength on its own without sacrificing efficiency. After all, in theory, a hypothetical whip that could train attack and strength separately from defence would be faster for training than a whip on controlled, because attack and strength have more of a hand in improving your training speed as you level-up, especially if you're training on something where you don't need food or Guthan's for whatever reason.

 

 

 

This same principle is why you should always use the aggressive mode when you have to use a weapon other than a whip for something like the jade vine or a turoth slayer task, and why familiars that train your strength are usually preferable to otherwise-equivalent familiars that train attack, defense, or controlled.
