Seems like MechScape is Stellar Dawn

Featured Replies

Since I don't want to take away the glory from Ren over at MechscapeWorld, I'll give you the link to his findings and the post that he put up.

It seems that Stellar Dawn is the new name for Jagex's upcoming sci-fi MMO codenamed MechScape. Ever since I announced that Jagex had registered the trademark Stellar Dawn (here) there have been rumours that it might be the new name for MechScape. These died down a bit when Jagex made the domain forward to FunOrb.com, but flared again when Mod Korpz was reported to have said that it wasn't a FunOrb game (source).

The RuneScape client, which seems to be shared with MechScape, was recently updated for RuneTek 5. In old versions of the client when run in a specific manner it would state that "MechScape is loading" instead of "RuneScape is loading". However, it now states:

The trademarked logo of Stellar Dawn is (source):

For an explanation for why Jagex were looking for an alternative name please read Mark Gerhard's public statement on the matter which also gives some background for why the game was originally called MechScape.

Note: The game itself is still inaccessible.

Ren is simply the master at finding things out. I give all credit to him.

Incredibly good find by him/her.

Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^

I almost photoshopped that image into saying something else, but then I realized that I am not a troll.

Well, this is nothing big, but at least it stops all discussion about...Wait I'm starting to troll again, wtf is wrong with me today?

Good find, that is all

They are probably going to upload all of the required data right before beta :(

To be honest, all the data is probably online, all they'll have to do is just change or redirect their URLs. If not then Jagex is going to be rushed to deploy all the data within weeks for a beta. Or in beta they'll slowly publicize the information. Which would lead that beta would be an excuse to get their foot in the door, without falling down first. Which means special invite only beta first, FTW.

Stellar Dawn is very catchy. SD not so much. Kudos to whoever gets the find.

It is kind of old news though if you've been following the hard work of those looking for clues. So meh. Cool.

I really don't care about the name as long as the name doesn't hinder the game's capability in the MMO or gaming industry.

I'll add more information. I found this by myself.

Step 1: Download Runescape.jar from http://world1.runescape.com/runescape.

Step 2: Open command prompt. That's start - run. On 7 or Vista, hit the windows key and r.

Type cmd in the run prompt.

Step 3: If you downloaded it to your desktop, thats good. Go to your desktop by typing "cd desktop"

Step 4: Execute the command "java -cp runescape.jar client 1 live english game1"

Backround info: RuneScape uses the same client as Stellar Dawn, this is Jagex's web-based client. When you run this command, "game1" tells the client to start Stellar Dawn(Mechscape) instead of Runescape. It should not get past "connecting to update server" because the update server isn't online yet/isn't public.

I tried posting on RuneScape official forums but it just got removed. So, I'm guessing your site will be okay?

Great find, really looking forward to it.

I wonder when they'll get around to releasing it? :P

I personally don't like the Name Stellar Dawn, it just sounds weird tbh.

May grow on me.

Sounds like a bad sci-fi movie name.

I agree with this.

Mechscape and Stellar Dawn dont sound very good.
