Clean your keyboard day.

My keyboard it clean, I know it, even though I've never looked inside or used one of those air thingies. I'm the only one who uses my computer, and I clean the surface of it often. And also, I don't eat near it, and when I do I keep crumbs away. Cuz computer is my amigo.

This might sound like a bad idea at first, but throw it in the dishwasher.

honestly id love to throw my laptop in the dishwasher to clean it...but unfortunatley due to uhhh circumstances with water and electricity....

interesting thing about water and electricity, water is a good conductor for electricty. that means if you throw a plugged in radio into a bathtub full of water, and you are in the water, you are going to be electricuited, right? well, for 99.99999% of the time, yes, but not because of the water (well, it kinda is and kinda isnt). the electricty passes through the water and through your body, and the down the Metal drain. you and the water are just part of the circuit, just a conductor for electricty. but say your bathtub, and about 6 feet of your drain, is all completly made of rubber. you throw a plugged in radio into the bathtub full of water, and you are in it, and what do you know, you dont get shocked. electric device thrown into water, and nothing happens (well, the radio probably wouldnt work anymore, and it might flip a breaker).

This is quite true, but I think what he was meaning to infer is what you said. The lappy won't work anymore...

And if you want to get technical... it's not the water conducting electricity it's random ions added to clean it that conduct e-. Distilled (pure) water, does not conduct electricity well at all.

Guess I didn't find it necessary to mention that. Next time I'll have my lawyer to write the post, so expect no more mixups :).

Nooo, bad idea, or atleast make sure it's on a cold wash first... I think it was Herr said about a year ago to do that, I chucked a single key in the dishwasher to test it... Left it wash, opened the dish washer and it was a little blob. You guessed, it melted. So, I advise people to use a cold wash first. :P

hmm, I once spilled an entire bowl of Lucky Charms on my keyboard..

Still works though. :D

I spilled a gatorade on mine and it doesn't work, so had to get a new one. Maybe it has to do with it being wireless, I don't know how that could affect it though.

Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so.

The keyboard on which I'm typing this is from... (checks label) 1985. That's older than me. It hasn't stopped working yet and I don't want to risk making it do so by cleaning it any more than necessary.

ibm-keyboard.jpg That's the sort of thing I'm talking about. Such a great keyboard. The only thing that stops me from painting over the key-caps so that only worthy people can use it is... well, two things: one, that I might forget where the h key is -- which would be disasterous -- and not wanting to deface such a great keyboard.

Saying all that, though, I have cleaned it fairly recently, and will continue to do so when it needs it -- if it's survived 20 years of button-mashing, I think it can handle a bit of a rub down every now and then.

I'm using one from '84 :P

these keyboards are awesome! they can take a hell of a beating and still type like no other. why did IBM stop making them?
