October 10, 200916 yr Find it racist if you want, but I dont see how he has done anything particularly worthy for it, though I am Australian and I dont get nearly as much info as an American would about Obama, but if something revolutionary happened then Australia would notice...But is it because hes black? ..Meh. I dont need a siggy no moar.
October 10, 200916 yr What really bugs me is that the deadline for the NPP was 2 weeks after he was elected. He didn't do [cabbage] in those first 2 weeks, and they basically nominated him off what he *MIGHT* do in the future. Sicus Locum Para Bellum!
October 10, 200916 yr What really bugs me is that the deadline for the NPP was 2 weeks after he was elected. He didn't do [cabbage] in those first 2 weeks, and they basically nominated him off what he *MIGHT* do in the future. And why is that bad? It was just nominations at that point. He was following one of the worst US presidencies there has ever been, in the midst of a huge economic crisis, and getting control of a country that is in two wars. It makes sense to nominate him. Then, if they didn't feel he was doing or was going to do anything worthy of the peace prize, they just wouldn't give it to him. The two week after his term started argument is probably the most stupidest one there is.

Getting sick to death of how awesome America is. :wall: Hey, if there's one person on this forum who cannot stand America's hegemony and has been called an America-hater repeatedly, it would be me; remember, I'm an ultra leftist, pinko, unAmerican, commie, facist, hippie liberal. I was just stating a poll that was recently taken, and again, it's not my fault that the world has a new found respect for America that it lost these past 8 years. It could very well be lost again. For now, the world has been given a new hope and change of mind about how they view America. It's as undeniable as climate change
October 11, 200916 yr I see what you mean Mage, but there's more important things than that. The reason Obama is seen a lot differently than the other presidents is because he's a lot of talk. I felt fairly confident in him as a leader because of his speeches, but I was let down because, honestly, I really don't see any change. Hope and peace isn't the only thing America needs - that's just one slice off the giant spectrum. Obama needs to start thinking bigger. Comforting the unemployed isn't enough. And OT, I definitely don't think he deserved the award... although I am not surprised about this.
October 11, 200916 yr It's not his fault, but no reason why he should have gotten it. Three LOL things though 1) Econ Teacher says "I'll win a nobel prize for counting the number of mole rats on catalina island"2) Same guy says "I'll win a nobel prize for entering my information correctly on Morningstar"3) In 2001 the WHOLE UN won the nobel peace prize. Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again

October 11, 200916 yr Nominations are considered by the Nobel Committee at a meeting where a short list of candidates for further review is created. This short list is then considered by permanent advisers to the Nobel institute, which consists of the Institute's Director and the Research Director and a small number of Norwegian academics with expertise in subject areas relating to the prize. Advisers usually have some months to complete reports, which are then considered by the Committee to select the laureate. The Committee seeks to achieve a unanimous decision, but this is not always possible from wiki.
