Is it possible to survive on Svalbard? If it is, then that's where I'm going to be located. If not, then I guess we could share Norway, or I could find another part of Scandinavia.

EDIT: Hell yeah, I'm picking Svalbard.

Okay, over the christmas holidays I'm going to be fleshing out the kingdom rules again. This time, there will be no going crazy with unit values and such, but we will still be using the basic fire emblem style of battle. I'm going to fix up the resource management, as well as get a set of rules down for unit strengths and effects which cannot be abused. I'm still not including magic, since people seem to hate the idea.

I'll hopefully be gettin Screenmonkey full, so it can all be done.

Don't start this with Hegemony rules, as that would fail.

Can you help us balance our unit effects and such? Basically act like a mod at the beginning?

The only difference between a disagreement between friends, an argument between strangers, and a feud between enemies is the ability to reconcile.

The way I plan to do it is that there will be no way to abuse the settings and such. You'll have your units, and that will be it.

I will be moderating the effects, though, since that is the one thing which can be abused.

Sounds fun! What kind of map?

We're using the Earth map this time if that's what you're asking.

Svalbard is part of Norway, but ok, you get the one island on Earth that is most similiar to Mars in terrain,.

By the way, I think we'll only be using Europe. Since, y'know. The ocean is big. And people back then had no way to cross it to America and such.

I think we should give some lands for exploration, though. (Greenland, Iceland, etc) Maybe we could keep the Americas in the game and just disallow people from playing as an American tribe. The Americas gives us reason to explore.

Not true, Eiric the Red did it and Thor Heyerdahl has done it in more recent time using only a balsawood raft named Kon-Tiki. Not that I object or anything.

But the chances of making such a voyage are slim, is all I'm saying.

2Xeo5.png

Will we be able to construct ocean-faring ships? If not, then I'm stuck on Britain forever. Anyways, maybe there could be at a certain point in time, after everyone is fully developed and fighting for limited land, a special event which unlocks the mystery of building a ship that can travel to the Americas.

Special ships? We know at least Viking Longships can do it, so can very light rafts.

And, Ross, those were first attempts, just saying.

It also takes years to do. England is not far away from france, so that is fine, but I still don't think we should use the Americas or Africa.

This is the reason I didn't want to use the current map of Earth.

2Xeo5.png

So can you make a system for small ships?

It'll take me years before I can develop ships that can sail to Europe. I think I'm actually the same distance from Greenland as I am from Europe. Hmm. Oh well. I get to battle monsters (if we're using them) and build up a fleet.

--

Anyway, here is a little history type thing that I thought of. Tell me if you like it.

Svalbard is a legendary land in the North that is inhabited by Norsemen who migrated to the region from Nordland centuries ago. It is rumored that the Norsemen who inhabit this cursed land are ruthless warriors who battle brutal beasts that inhabit the Ice Fields of Acheron.

For a long time, the Svalbard Vikings have seemingly vanished from History. However, Europeans fear the barbarians because of stories about the Svalbard Vikings being half man and half beast.

We need a method so that every player can interact without years of developing seafaring craft and then further years of travel.

The Earth map just wont work.

Suggestions?

I was adding a little alternative history twist into it.

The Ice Fields are the glacial zones on Svalbard. (about 60% of the archipelago is covered in ice)

"Nordland" is just an alternative name for Northern Norway, yes. It can also refer to most of Scandinavia in general, however.

I hope that clears up some confusion.

EDIT: It would be awesome if you could translate those names into Norwegian. (If you want, so it kind of fits in a little bit.)

Mather, you need to stop being so protective of Norway. Yes, we understand that you have a lot of pride in your homeland, but theres no need to correct everyone who makes a mistake on a damned RP board. <_<

I think we should include at least North Africa and the Middle East.

Everything within the red box could be the game area. If we reach a certain point where we're ready for expansion, we could extend that box deeper into Asia and Africa and discover the New World.

This game area forces everyone to be closer together, and it eliminates the problem concerning distances.

Theres still a huge amount of ocean in the middle.

We don't want the ocean.

Most names are the same in Norwegian and English. But if you want to name things after what they are then I'd be happy to help.
