Jes
Yeah, that's a good 10 or 15 years tops of theoretical knowledge verses knowledge passed down from others that actually experienced living in that time. You're a [bleep]ing idiot. You people don't seem to get what I'm saying. You know I bet nine times out of ten if people see a biography on someone they probably wouldn't think twice if it true or not. But when people hear about the Bible, they automatically think it's [cabbage]. That proves just how closed-minded this world is. You believe history books right? How is the Bible any different? Skull
Yup, natural selection still goes on to a degree in humans. The recessive traits will also start to disappear over time and after a long time there will be a lot less distinction between different races etc. The problem with the bible is that it alone reports these findings, which leads to skepticism. A history book has other sources saying the same thing for each event, most of which are very well documented. History books are also updated every few years, which make them a more stable academic resource. The bible on the other hand is several thousand years old. I'm not going to get into the argument over the bible containing illogical or proven to be inaccurate ideas that are presented as fact though. You'll also have to consider that the bible isn't THE ONLY GOD DAMN BOOK OUT THERE (sorry for the blasphemy). There are other ideas, other religions, and no one's to say which one is correct. Arguing for the Bible isn't just stupid, it undermines thousands of years of other religions that have based the creation of humans and the universe differently. Hinduism is a lot older than Christianity, but I don't hear you arguing about Shiva creating the universe after it was destroyed.
meol
Now Jes, there's no need to call anyone an idiot, please cut that out. The reason some people might not blindly believe in the Bible is because it makes extraordinary, untestable claims, ranging from amazing miracles to the creation of the universe, while there are more feasible alternatives provided by science. Not to say it's horribly biased. I'd be more eager to believe a biography of Stalin made by a current historian than an official Soviet biography. The same applies to the Bible. Sure, it might contain many historical facts, but that doesn't mean all its statements are correct or that it has the same validity of a history book. This signature is intentionally left blank. Jes
I don't care if you believe what I say. Your a bunch of [wagon] kids. And I know I am too, but I'm the one admitting that I might not be correct. You're all 100% sure about what you're saying although it's theory. And I'll say it one more time so you might get it through your heads I know the Bible is weird, and I know that no one on this site has actually opened it before although I know you all will say you have. I never really cared about it until I read Revelations. The world is falling apart and that's something I hope we can all agree on, and it predicts everything that is happening now.I don't believe in coincidences. I started believing in God again when I had a near death experience. I thought I had a horrible life, and I didn't. Not even close. And I felt like that was a major wake-up call that I deserved. And of course I know none of you have had a religious experience with Evolution and that's the best part about what Creationism has to offer. Having something to turn to or to believe in, whether it's there or not I find comfort and security in it. And that's another thing that Evolution doesn't have to offer. I feel the same way leaving this thread that I did coming into. Actually after talking to you people I think that you just re-enforced my belief. "There are times when silence has the loudest voice." And that's another thing that Evolution doesn't have to offer. Some people value the truth. Some people want to know what's true, not what's comfortable to believe in. Comfort and security aren't corollaries to truth. Jes, we've tried being nice by explaining our arguments to you. You could have adressed them, but instead you chose to ignore them and insult people. And to Meol, I think your post showed a particularly good summary of the history book vs. Bible argument.

For example: if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, sounds like a duck, acts like a duck, swims like a duck, reproduces like a duck, and eats like a duck, then maybe it's a duck. Unless it's Jesus reincarnated as a duck. Or Chuck Norris.

Actually after talking to you people I think that you just re-enforced my belief. As much as it might seem that way, I'm just trying to clear up many misunderstandings you have (if you areso adamant against science, it should at least be well justified), not trying to convince you to abandon your religion. I wouldn't even say I'm an atheist myself, for the matter. Trying to falsify all the human effort that's gone to science with religion isn't cool, but following a religion because it gives you hope and comfort is OK. I sometimes wished I could have that much faith so I wouldn't have all these many questions right now, but I just can't force myself to accept religion like you do. You could say God made me an Agnostic. But I'm getting way off topic now. Anyway, evolution and religion don't have to be exclusive, because they serve different purposes. Believing in a God doesn't mean you have to believe in a literal interpretation of the Genesis either. [Edit] Meh. It was much better when you could see what people posted while you were writing your post. Now I'm just repeating what everyone above me said. Also, sorry if I'm getting too verbose. Zierro
If you think about it, though, it's not mathematically improbable, at least it's never been justified as such and there have always been counter arguments such as the mutli-universe theory and the "lottery principle" that I brough up. If you need a refresher, I'm basically arguing that given enough trials (e.g. enough planets), it's not surprising that one should "strike it rich" (e.g. be the habitable zone), even considering how rare striking it rich may be. This can be applied to processes like abiogenesis as well - however rare it may be to develop a protocell from inorganic molecules, considering the number of molecules on different planets all "trying" to become life, it shouldn't be surprising that we're here. The theory of the multiverse: with an infinite amount of universes, anything can happen. Does this mean there's probably a god in one of those universes? As for abiogenesis, that's a leap of faith. There's been no empirical evidence for it whatsoever. There has never been a scientific reenactment of a living cell arising from inorganic material. The only reason this theory exists is because we have no other explanation for the origin of the first cell - which sounds a lot like god of the gaps and an argument from incredulity to me. Until I see abiogenesis and evolution, I will always be as skeptical as I am with religion.
