Seraphi
Yeah...I'd say we just go with a grid in the shape of a ship, and stick modules into it that way. The moderator would have to create the module shape when the player finishes researching it.

Nero
This game is being massively oversimplified. To be honest I wouldn't want to play that game with command points and all of that. Too structured, takes away the fun of Hegemony. My thoughts exactly. If this game does spring up, I'll just ignore all the build points and tech research costs and resource numbers and do whatever I think is reasonable. Seraphi
Previous hegemony was too lax, and it led to frustration because everyone was trying to munchkin as much as possible. Also, Dusty, what will be the difference? You pretty much do that in all games with solid rules."I don't like this rule, let's totally and utterly ignore it and carry on playing my own way." If you really don't like it, then perhaps you should voice your opinions about the ideas people are throwing out more.
Icuownage
Why not do it just like civilization? Simple, yet complex. Retech
Or we could step away from all this module stuff and have descriptor stats. For example: power 4 might be powerful, while power 2 might be moderate. Then each "module" would just have a size score (each ship would have a size limit). Then you could have a...fighter with base stats power 2 and speed 2, and each module would just change that. Or even better, we could just have pros and cons of our ships, and we would just try to compromise with each other... Master of your domain? Seraphi
Retech, we both know that isn't going to happen  Without the module stuff, it's simplified even further, which people say they don't want. The module system makes designing ships a much more tactical affair.
Retech
So we'd have to play tetris with our ships? I think a size system makes more sense than tetris, where each addition is a certain size, and a ship only has so much space. Master of your domain? Seraphi
I prefer to think about the resident evil 4 inventory management system. I mean, if people really want to do that system, then fine, but I think the tetris system would make people use their brain more and think about what they're doing. Honestly. I didn't play Hegemony to touch up on my Microsoft Excel skills, or my theoretical physics knowledge. I'm playing to do what I want, and so when someone says 'no you can't do that because you need x before you can make y, but you need 18 of z, and need to have researched a through to m and bought tech from player t, I just say [bleep] that and do what I want. Infinitely more enjoyable for me. And what bonehead decided to make members names show up as yellow? What an eyesore. archimage_a
Cutting through all the crap in my system to do wth customisation and such....You research 1 project at a time. You build 2 heavy battleships or equivilants per day per planetYou can chose how you want to move around space, but basically- 6 hour travel to the 4 closest systems(node) OR 1 day per square and the ability to deploy gates which insta travel anywhere there is a gate OR 6 hours per square and 6 hours to enter a system. You get Research points to upgrade your technology in small steps without researching it.You build a ship with a decent number of weapons on. You deploy a decent number of ships. You play decently. Wow! Complicated! Rocco, we have a choice...We can have the Dusty/Mather approach and create a game that they dominate because they have no intention of playing fairly, they are just doing whatever takes their fancy at the time.ORArchi approach of real life limits, but keeping full customability.ORWe limit customability and play the game with rules on everything so people don't 'Oh, what shall I do about this? Well I could play fairly, or I could win....' I don't really see any other option because no one is going to say 'Hey, I don't mind losing.' http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts. Retech
I vote that realism gets thrown the hell out the window (we're playing in space, for christ's sake) and we play with the nice principle that if Archi says it's overpowered then you cut it back. This would, of course require Archi to mod. Also, I say scrap the resource point thing and instead have it so that you post what you want to research, how long it will take, and then Archi approves it. That would also mean that Archi couldn't play, correct? Don't want to repeat that invincible caravel thing again. :P Master of your domain? archimage_a
You people really have a problem with me in every game...Someone invents a 'claimed' invunerable system, it must therefore be invunerable! Anyway, if everyone agreed that system then I would do it, and not play(I prefer Dungeonal's system though), on condition that Dusty wasn't allowed to play, since he never listens to me. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree.
