Hegemony Argument Thread

As Mather was the only person to do the survey we have established that we will start with no technology whatsoever and then research things like the wheel over time (like the civilisation games)

The 1960 thing was just me suggesting a way to slow down the gradual progression into needing space.

Lol who put Hex in charge?

Thanks for asking the question I've been thinking about all day.

Master of your domain? I am Lord of the manor, Queen of the castle, King of the county!

No one did but no one else is bothering.

Shall we start with no technology at all, not even how to make iron or bronze and then over time we will get to the stage we are at at the moment in a long long time.

Or shall we start with the the same technology as we have now and then add continuations to that.

I believe no tech would be the best, y'no like civalisation starts and then we could actually create a new sort of culture with diffrent types of weapons and objects for each culture.

Bear in mind if you want to even make a gun your going to have to research

medium complexity machinery

metal work

creation of gunpowder

creation of steal/iron whatever

but in a true steampunk style this would encourage invention and out of the box thinking it would also allow for abut of survialism.

(y/n)

idea stealing? Should we be allowed to beat someone up and steal all of there techs?

I think so

(y/n)

do we want random events or rebellions based on how you treat your people.

(y/n)

can we put a ban on huge alliances consisting of nearly the entire game.

We should fill this out, Mather was the only one to do it.

Starting from nothing isn't fun. Personally I'd rather not have hunter gatherers for the first 3.98 million days of the game. Just start like a normal Hegemony, and maybe have it so people can get compensation for starting with smaller countries, like either: They get to pick a fair technology to be insta researched, or they get a few extra countries.

Like, someone could pick central America, for example, as their starter.

Or just play the same way we always do.

Well one nice thing of sticking with current countries is that there are easily findable stats for everything. Just magically putting everyone at US level would mess that up.

Not really, considering then everyone has the US's findable stats for everything.

I suggested we have US tech, but not the exact same, ie. Kazakhsatan would have a different plane from Germany, but they would both have the same stats as eachother to start. I think if we start with 25 mil. Pop, with a country the size of germany, maybe a bit bigger, it would give everyone a fair start. I'll post my writeup about 9 pm Winnipeg time tomorrow (i think that's 3 am GMT)

I call greenland.

I reckon we should start with no technology just to avoid silly arguments like these.

Don't worry, we'll have tribal warfare before you know it and we've all played civilisation - it works on that.

I RESEARCH FIRE AND THE WHEEL.

No.

Sorry Ross, you haven't developed Mathematics, Writing or Speech yet...so you can't post new research.

Also, I think using computers for this game is a bit game breaking, so we can only communicate as people did before they knew how to communicate...Now where did I put my club....

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I look for some copper and some sand...then I turn them into a microchip and begin designing a laptop.

Then I begin building a radio receiver and scan the airwaves for Human transmissions from Earth. While I am waiting I invent clothes, decide they are useless and outlaw them, and build a radio transmitter. I also give birth to a son who I call Fibonacci and give 1, then another 1, then 2, then 3, then 5, then 8 and so on, sticks to him, waiting for him to discover the pattern then proclaiming him a genius and enshirning his discovery as 'Fibonacci Numbers'. Once I find human transmissions I send some messages back using Fibonacci Numbers so they know its not a natural occurance.

Over the next century I communicate with them and learn all their secrets.

Then I use my Mech Walker to stomp Grim and Rocco in a twist of Irony.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Medivel tech won't work, because we know what gets invented afterwards. That's why you normally get modern tech by 1700 in civ, because there is no Christian repression of science for 1000 years.

The beauty of picking your own starting area is it allows more variance in play styles. I could pick kazakhstan-area, and have Large swaths of land to expand, or start right beside another player, then attempt to swallow them up.

In my hegemony plan, there are also random events, with events ranging from good, such as "your miners strike gold" or "a rebellion forms in the north. If a player is elimanated early on, he could be given a second country, or later on he could control rebels.

I saw a show on phlogistine.

Yeh, I suppose it won't work then. :(

also, we need to make a rule against researching theorys that are just theorys and aren't proven.

Also, if we have one person deciding who wins wars they shouldn't be allowed to play.

And random events shouldn't be random, parades and protests will only happen if th e

leader isn't looking after there people right, but of course there is still work increase sometimes.

Why's Rocco not said a thing since Retech wanted him leader????

My random events change based on how you rule your country. If you are a fair leader, and get rebellion, it will be a ragtag group that is easily dealt with. However, if you are an evil dictator, the rebellion could cause serious damage.
