My brand-spanking new goal is 99 Mining. I plan to get to 70 mining powermining iron, then get to 99 from 70 by powermining granite. I will be doing frequent rune mining once I hit 85 as well.

 

My question is: At its current cost, is a dragon pick actually worth getting? From 61-70 I will be doing iron (and I have heard that it effects the rate in which you get iron) but I have no clue about granite or rune. It is 15M at the moment, which seems quite expensive. But I'm not sure if its worth it or not.

It doesn't affect the rate at which you get iron because that's capped. Same with clay, tin, copper, and pure essence--there's a maximum rate. With everything else, it works fine.

Since you can resell it any time, and speed means less time training and less time per rune once you hit 85, it is a wise investment.

It's not worth it for just iron, but once you start powermining granite, go ahead and get it, and then resell it when you're done. It might drop by then, but the rune ores should cover it.

Yes, it will help at Rune and Granite. It will also help while mining stars, if you choose to do so.

 

Also, you will most likely get 99 mining before the price of the dpick changes significantly.

I have the same goal and chose to spend 15m. I love my pick to death at is well worth it. Also why do powermining granite? Why not do concentrated coal and gold? Its more profit and xp.

So I'm in the guild with a lvl 83 miner who has a d pick and me a rune pick, we faced off several times, and i beat him 7 times out of 10 on average. Im lvl 86 mining... i dont think it's worth 15 mil... think of all the coal you can buy with that....

You don't get a free dragon pickaxe after using up 15m worth of coal; however, you do get a free dragon pickaxe after you're done with the dragon pickaxe.

 

What I'm saying is that once you're done, you can sell it back again, so you get a return on your 15m.

Thats the wrong idea. If the item do indeed has better stats and you expect the item's price wont go crashing for the next few weeks, then its worth it.

 

D pick do look it's settling down, but not too sure is it going to be stable... any ideas?

The answer is simple: yes.

 

It's a tool. You buy a tool because of the benefit you will get for it, not as an investment. If you really plan to go to 99 Mining, how many hours is that? How many hours of utter mind-numbing boredom will you save if you can do it even 10% faster?

 

I haven't tested my d pick extensively yet, but I did test it on pure essence, and it was 11% faster. My guess is that it is similar for other ores as well. I tested pure essence because its mining rate is continuous. If you want to test it on other ores you need to mine a LOT of them to get a proper sense of things (not just 10!)

I reviewed concentrated gold and coal, don't really like it. I'd rather powermine for exp and rune mine for $$$, I don't want cash and $$$ at the expense of more mining to do in the long run.

 

So, that means that once I go powermining granite I'll buy a D Pick. True, it ain't an investment so I should just buy it :P. Any cash I lose when the pick drops in price should be redeemed from rune mining :D.

Concentrated Gold/Coal is NOT faster xp than Granite, unless you are an absolute failure at powermining.

 

You must remeber that coal + gold is a 1 click one inv full, also you do not need to waste time and grind dropping all that granite..

Of course that was taken into consideration.

 

The fact remains that Concentrated Ores, while easier to mine and decently profitable I agree, cannot match the xp granite provides.

 

Concentrated Ores give 40-45k. Granite will, for an average person, give 50-60k, but can get as high as 70k or 80k if you are VERY good at dropping. Even you are bad at dropping, you can get perhaps 40-50k, which would be the same, more or less, as Concentrated Ores.

tbh i would buy the dragon pick if your serious about mining like very serious but dont spend all your money on it.

I would say that even though you may be completely opposed to it, once you get 77 mining hit up the living rock caverns. That's why most people buy dragon picks, for using there. You'll make lots of money and generally faster exp then granite. But thats just my idea :P

Thats what I'm thinking now. I've done heaps more research and from what I've found living rock caverns are the way to go. I'll join a LRC clan and get mining once I hit 80. All I really want is the concentrated gold ores, for cash. And I wanna train my smithing a bit as well.

I'll probably throw it in there as well, I'm still not certain what I'm gonna do beyond 70 :P. Thank you for all the help so far.

I would definitely suggest concentrated ores as soon as you hit 77. You'll run out of steam quickly if you spend hours powermining granite, where concentrated ores are practically AFK and give you a profit, which adds to your rune mining profit. I think that in the long run, concentrated ores will be better experience for you unless you're a machine.

I think you're right. I don't want to brun myself out too early in. I really need the cash for 99 farming as well, which is gonna cost me in excess of 150M :shock:.

They'll cut out maybe 20-30m of it, which is a lot, but isn't very much at all.

 

You can switch to Concentrated Coal at 76 and Gold at 79 if you have a Void Ravenger.
