Bloodstain
So angry at the Canadian women. But they got reprimanded for smoking/drinking on the ice, the drinking age in B.C is 19, there's a couple of 18 year olds on their team. The US men need to beat Finland or Sweden or whoever they're playing today. Ryan Miller is epic. =D>I don't understand why people make such a big fuss over that.....they just won an olympic medal, I'd be partying if that happened to me. Wickenheiser said if it were a men's team, there wouldn't be a hint of controversy. "I don’t brush it off, the underage [part] and being on the ice," said Wickenheiser. "Those things maybe could have been done different. But at the same time, it’s celebrating, it’s hockey, it’s a tradition we do. When we see a Stanley Cup winner, we see them spraying champagne all over the dressing room, you see 18-year-old kids there and nobody says a thing." Drinking age here in Manitoba is 18, a year really doesn't matter and oh my god they had a couple beers, after winning a WORLD COMPETITION! Someone please, THINK OF THE CHILDREN I suppose it wouldn't matter if I said America got the most medals total which means they placed in the top 3 in more events than Canada did? Olympics isn't about countries "winning", it's about the individual athletes. Nah, they changed the ranking rules. It used to be whoever had the most golds won, now it's the total. IIRC, the Olympic committees or whoever runs the Olympics aren't allowed to rank countries, because it isn't about countries winning. Ah, here it is The Charter goes even further in Chapter 5, section 58, expressly prohibiting the IOC from producing an official ranking: “ The IOC and the OCOG shall not draw up any global ranking per country. A roll of honour bearing the names of medal winners and those awarded diplomas in each event shall be established by the OCOG and the names of the medal winners shall be featured prominently and be on permanent display in the main stadium. fastortoise
Wow. that was an incredible final match. I don't think i'll be able to go back to watching the NHL after yesterday :ohnoes: As for ranking - I'm also getting tired of people debating the schematics. Canada won 14 gold medals on our own turf, that's enough to make me proud to be Canadian.
obfuscator
[bleep] yeah Canada, hockey gold and most golds by host :DI suppose it wouldn't matter if I said America got the most medals total which means they placed in the top 3 in more events than Canada did? I'm not claiming Canada did better than the States did - the states is by far the most dominant country at the Olympics, summer and winter, and they have a ton of phenomenla athletes. Still, Canada did improve significantly, and acheive something signficant, so I'm merely proud of my country for that. The_Fray
I hope that Team USA's current run to the gold medal game will spark some interest for hockey in the States. Might be wishful thinking but it will be nice if we didnt have to hear about relocation/contraction every year and maybe just maybe we will finally see the end of Jim Balsille.
