Our highschool football team won our league for the second time in a row. That's the first time It has ever happened in our towns 95 year history. The only other time we had won our league besides last year was way back in 1978.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyways, we had our playoff game yesterday in Sumner Washington (my middle name is Sumner, who's superstitious? ) It was a single elimination game, the winner goes to state to play Bellevue (ranked #1 in our state and #5 in the nation), while the looser goes home and is done for the season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The team we played was Lindbergh. After halftime the score was 0 - 0. Then they kicked off to us to start the 2nd half and we scored on the drive. Extra point time for me (the kicker), so i go out, no big problem, and Lindbergh jumps offsides. I tell our captain to accept the penalty, move it up 2 yards. He doesn't accept it, so we stay the same. 20 yard kick, no problem, i've made thousands of them.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There's the snap, but it's very high. So high that my holder has to jump up a little bit to catch it. I have to stop, and then make the kick off-balance. It hits the right upright and shoots back at me. The extra point is no good, we are ahead 6 - 0.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We go the rest of the game shutting them out. They have the ball on their own 33 yard line with 55.2 seconds remaining on the clock, 3rd down and 10 to go. The quarterback throws a screen pass to his tight end who had cut up the middle, and the tight end runs it 67 yards for a touchdown with about 45 seconds remaining on the clock.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Extra point time for their kicker. There's the snap, and we block it!!! No wait, there's a flag on the play. False start on the Offence for a 10 yard penalty. Now he has to kick a 30 yard extra point (from the 20 yard line). There's the snap and the kick is up.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It's good, we're behind 6 - 7 with 45 seconds left.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

we return the kickoff to about the 35 yard line, i go over to the net and get warmed up for a fieldgoal (50 yards is my max). We get a first down to the 45 yard line!! 15 more yards and I can get a chance to redeem myself!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our quarterback throws a hailmary to our reciever, and it's picked off and run about 30 yards back. They have the ball with 3 seconds left, they kneel the ball and we loose.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I have never cried so hard in my entire life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Other than the extra point missed I had a great game:

 

 

 

2 kickoffs - 51 yards and 48 yards

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3 punts - 59 yards, 41 yards, and 43 yards

Too bad bellevue would have rocked you anyway, even if they did loose to Issaquah. That and 4A is really what matters 95% of the time here.

You may think its your fault but your just the easy scapegoat. Its really the longsnapper's fault (you cant kick if the ball aint placed right). After him its the 11 guy's that couldnt tackle the TE from a 67 yard screen pass. After that its the QB who threw the interception (sounds like Ayoob at Cal, or old Rattay when he was with the Niners). So really your whole team is to blame. Either way you would have got crushed by Bellevue.

cant blame it on you though, the snap was high as you said, so you should be blaming your long snapper, and your holder had to jump for it

Well i wouldnt say it was totally your fault. As you said the snap of the ball was high, and that you got off balanced kick whenever the guy put it down so you could score the extra goal.

yes, we lost agaisnt the state champs we were so doing so good, we were winning for a while 14-17 at halftime, should of been 17-17 but our new holder messed up the field goal. 2nd half we were pumped but so were they, they rocked us 14-31, we cried exspecially the seniors, now i come home after school with nothing to do. Our kicker is best in PA and is nationally ranked too, but our holder who plays 3rd string qb got sacked in practice by our 290 lb lineman and he broke his collarbone

"Win as a team, lose as a team." Honestly, don't blame yourself. Most of us have played sports, so we all know that we can always find places where we should've done this or should've seen that coming, but sith happens. Your team played, and together, you fought hard and lost by a little. You did what you could, you tried your best, and that's all that ever really matters.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dunno if that will help you out or not...but I am sympathetic and I'm sorry to hear that you lost.

thing is its not really your fault, who ever snapped it did it horribly. And then its not your fault that the team let a TE run 65 yard for a TD with like 3 min left. You really can't pin point this to a single person, i mean i bet the person covering the TE probably feels exactly like you do. It was a big loss for your team, its only natural that you put the blame on yourself, its what humans do. Its ok to feel some grief because it was a tough loss, but don't let it get to you.

howd you know, and yeah the FR game was pretty heartbreaker, our qb was crying but we knew we played our hardest, but we did win against our biggest rival hampton in double overtime, we thought we lost, but we scooped and scored like 38 yrd return to tie it up, this was the first week of no football and i felt like i had nothing to do, oh well lacrosse lifting starts next week and football condition starts in like 3, well i mean TJ is amazing, we thought we had them but 2nd half that stupid ref with the butt in the front cause hes so fat screwed us over for the 3rd time. At least hampton lost to franklin, i really hope franklin beats west miff tommarow even tho west miffs still undefeated.
