skylor12344
Ok so currently im ranging black dragons for fun/training and the d bone/rune drops. I was wondering if anyone knew a round and about number for the chance to get a visage off a black dragon? I've killed about 2-3k so far and the bones are adding up and easily paying for ammo. I know that there is better training methods but i enjoy killing black dragons as opposed to powertraining. Please dont suggest i kill irons/steels because i hate METAL drags. If anyone can give me a round and about number for visage drop and around how long it would take me to get 85 range killing drags i would really appreciate it. wordsofthelord
I dont have a good figure for you, but rather this. Drop rates are just a number. You could get a visage on the first kill and get one again 2 kills later. Also you could kill 10k dragons and not get one either. I have heard something like matbe 1 in 1500 or so but again thats just a guess. Good luck getting a visage.

I only kill black dragons when I get them as a task and never gotten a decent drop from them. It's hard to put a number on this, since most people get their visages from metal dragons & kbd...I personally don't know one person who got his visage drop from black dragons :(I wish you good luck on getting a drop and admire your patience to kill +2k dragons! 2016 goals: all skills +30mil xp - Completed this goal 11th December 2016 2017 goals: get at least 3 more master capes (start xp: invention done@21st Jan, mining done@2nd April & ranged 76/104mil done@June 20th) & all skills +40mil xp (done 24th August)
skylor12344
hehe thank you both, i've been told several times im insane for wanting to get my range lvls on dragons over something like yaks or chinning. It just seems to me that since i need 4.6k dragon bones for 80 pray and i LOVE killing black dragons i would get my lvls this way
wordsofthelord
The way I see it is as long as you are having fun training your way then keep doing it. And as you said the drops are paying for ammo, so its free exp, not to mention free prayer exp as well.
skylor12344
Yup xD while black drags may be slow their fairly nice xp as well as free pray xp and the rune drops help as well, plus if i get a visage i can either sell it or make it into a shield i've always wanted
Robert_R
I'm not sure enough people have camped and kept a record of kills till visage drop for there to be a semi-accurate drop rate.
skylor12344
Yea im using my dragon bone count to keep up with my kc for blk drags. So far im up to 3,271 drags over the course of several weeks (been killing dragons off and on so i probably would be higher if i did it constantly). Im just going to keep on although i might start taking breaks to go to TD's every couple of hours and get a few kills there before continuing with dragons. Robert_R
If you don't mind me asking you a question, any idea how many dragons you're killing per hour?
skylor12344
im not sure exactly because i havent been timing it. Not too many tho because ranging these guys is seeming to be a very slow proccess xD
SixFootOne
I ranged 13k black dragons over the course of 6 months and didn't get a visage. So don't get your hopes up =/. Then again i have seen people get 2 within a week. So even if someone were to tell you a "drop rate" that doesn't mean that's how many you should expect to kill to get one. By the way i was able to kill about 150 to 200 dragons max a day. If i remember correctly that was about 132k to 176k range xp a day.

skylor12344
haha by the time im done with this i plan to have around 7-8k dragon bones (4.6k to get me to 80 pray) and the rest ill sell off for profit xD
Bladewing
A large compilation of data on RSOF suggests a drop rate between 1:10,000 and 1:13,000. To be conservative, we'll choose 13,000. The number of dragons you'd have to kill to be 95% sure you'll get a visage is 38,943 dragons. Happy hunting. mega_vegeta6
Blue dragons would be better, no? Faster kills means faster xp, more bones, more chances of visage, everything is just more.

Plus their mostly packed and i hate world hopping, at my range lvl i dont seem to hit them very often, and mageing is a waste of time and money which i dont have. Bladewing
Well I can't help you with your traumatic experience, but I can give advice on the other parts. At irons, use ranged potions and eagle eye. Or use melee and piety (better). As for location, the Ice Fortress is nearly always empty and a quick bank with ice plateau teleport. However, I still recommend you do whichever is more fun. But Irons will reward you every now and again with a platelegs or skirt, while black dragons will keep giving you addy javelins. skylor12344
i know irons are better in profit but slower in xp, plus i dont have the mage lvl to tele to the ice pleatea which will make banking take forever. Im willing to try it i suppose but ill be ranging as i want to get to 85 so once i get enough money ill be able to get 99 with chins xD
Ezkaton
Just out of curiosity...... Is cannoning Black Drags a good idea for tasks of them? Does it speed them up at all and do you still break even/profit? (again sorry for quickly changing the topic) Reacting impulsively and saying what's on your mind feels oh so good.. for a little, until you realize you just started WWIII.2672nd person to reach 2496 total. Thanks to Wicked for the awesome siggy :D
Zephy
I believe on average you'll afford a dfs by camping greens/blues in far shorter time than getting the drop by camping black drags. Disclaimer: The above is probably inaccurate.

Sure, you might get a visage as a drop. But you might as well save yourself a few weeks/months and do other things to get it.
skylor12344
I dont like blues because their always packed, the ogre enclave is annoying because its too far from a bank. I perfer to do blacks as they take a little longer to kill, have better drops, and their is always the chance for that visage drop.
Zephy
How fast can you range a black dragon? How many blue dragons can you range in that time?More than likely, most of your time in any scenario is spent killing dragons, not banking them.Besides which, Enclave is usually uncrowded and fast with duel rings.
