Well considering that a direct shot with a bullet would likely do as much damage as a concentrated EMP pulse of the same intensity, it doesn't really matter that much. Large burst waves that are created by nuclear weapons do not exist with the size of our nuclear weapons, and are therefore not a problem.

Basically it's easier to shoot than to blast with EMP, because any large EMP pulse would be expensive and difficult to produce.

I'm also adding a new high altitude fighter interceptor project, as we all know how it turns out when one side has super high flying stratos bombers.

Which leads me to the next thing, can't we just rule out Stratos style bombers completely? High altitude, yes, but Stratos bombers were just ridiculous.

Well production of the fibre to be put all over the machine would be very expensive aswell.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

How were they ridiculous?

Just because you couldn't stop them didn't make them overpowered. Your defenses were just inadequate.

Erm, they can fly around in the Stratosphere, in a layer of air with much lower density. That just leads to a lot of problems. Also, if you recall, I was the largest user of Stratos Jets. The point is that they would probaly cost five or ten times a regular jet, but it just leads to an imbalance.

You can argue with Doom about that, as I'm not exactly an expert on the field.

Probaly, but think about this.

Problems:

The bottom of the stratosphere is cooooold (mechanical problems)

Fuel (In order to cruise and "fight" in the Stratosphere if you will, would require a heavy tank of fuel to even get up. Jet airliners can do it because they're big, and they don't have to swerve and stuff.

Probaly countless other problems.

Hex, they've stopped EMPs before since the 1950s. Don't you think there'd be a much thinner material that could do it as well? In the past they just wrapped it in lots of specialized material, but I'm simply applying it to nanofibers.

But the nanofibers are the wrong material, its impossible.

4.It has long been known that there are many ways to protect against nuclear EMP (or to quickly begin repairs where protection is not practical); but the United States EMP Commission determined that such protections are almost completely absent in the civilian infrastructure of the United States, and that even large sectors of the United States military services were no longer protected against EMP to the level that they were during the Cold War. The public statements of the physicists and engineers working in the EMP field tend to emphasize the importance of making electronic equipment and electrical components resistant to EMP and of keeping adequate spare parts on hand, and in the proper location, to enable prompt repairs to be made.[18][28][47] The United States EMP Commission did not look at the civilian infrastructures of other nations.

Quote from the EMP article of Wikipedia.

Hex, show me an article. You could simply coat the machine with the material, then put the nanofibre on top. <_<

It would be pretty useless, a short range bombing mission that is actually quite expensive.

Better off just trying to take out the defenses.

You can resist an EMP, but it only works to a certain extent, it could always get through.

Correct. I am referring to EMPs caused by nuclear weapons detonated miles from the thing being protected. That would not be enough to penetrate the armor. However, if you detonated a nuclear weapons closer (or used some other sort of EMP pulse gun or something), that would work. Doesn't really make any sense though, since like I said before, you might as well just use a regular gun with a regular bullet.

Oh I thought it would be robots and such, you could probably just have high maintenance on the super computer with minor defense, so if it does go down it would be right back up after a short down time, I'm barely talking a day.

While robots and such, would require a highly trained engineer, and even then they probably wont fix it before they're gunned down. So high resistance to EMP's is required in military robots and such.

Well if the super computer was relied upon for the defence of the nation...

Hmm? Generally a missle defence shield requires a powerful computer, to make it effective. I don't quite understand what you're talking about.

Heh looks like I was the first person on this thread to have stratos fighters/bombers (just finished research a day or two ago). Anyways there are ways to keep an EMP from wrecking you. The best way in my opinion is to always have a back up (like a second super computer in an underground complex protected by several faraday cages) or just use several shielded underground complexes for your super computer possibly with land lines connecting them.

Grim, how much do Stratos Fighters and bombers cost to make individually?

Regardless, fifty fighters are manufactured.

Yep.

There should be occasions where NPC countries attack player countries. Like the Urc Orz thing, that would be fun and give us something to talk about.

But it would have to be logical. Wouldn't make sense for....Equitorial Guinea to suddenly send a million soldier attack force against Australia.
