Hey, so I just started again and want to pick up melee slayer. I have no items what-so-ever so what items should I buy for slaying in general?

My stats

80 Attack

81 Strength

82 Defence

84 HP

81 Range

60 Prayer

77 Mage

64 Summoning

29-30M to spend.

Edit: 70 Slayer.

Whip + Rune Defender is best, Saradomin Sword second best, unless you want to exclusively train str, in which case it's the best option.

Get some dragon (or barrows, if you don't mind repair costs) and invest in some good food and super sets.

Hmm basics...

<> Whip, Black mask, best platebody+legs you prefer to wear, best 'recipe for disaster' gloves you can wear, rune/d boots, rune defender, glory, 99 cape/obby cape

<> 100-1k food, usually monkfish or higher is best. I've always used monkfish even going for 99 slayer as it costs a lot less than shark and heals 160 lifepoints

<> Bunyip when you can - for heals/any familiar you feel will help

<> Runes for teleports/alching

<> Super atk+str pots, and super def if you want, I don't really buy super def though. Does help but I find I make bank trips for my drops too often anyway XD

Black mask or slayer helm is pretty much required. If you haven't completed Smoking Kills, you should, because the points you get from slayer are very usuful.

Armor:

Rune Platebody

Rune Platelegs

Dragon Boots

Barrows Gloves (regen brace works also if you haven't finished enough of RFD to get the Dragon gloves)

Rune Defender (Obby shield for tasks that need more defense)

Glory Amulet

Skill Cape or Soul Wars cape or Obby cape or Legends Cape

Weapon:

Abyssal Whip (with dds as spec weapon)

If you have some cash you are willing to spend, then you can upgrade some of this gear. Here are some of the upgrades I use.

Full slayer helm. (worth it, get it when you can)

Fury (totally worth it in my opinion)

Warrior Ring (I love the extra slash bonus, and relatively inexpensive)

Dragon Legs or Skirt (extra defense is always nice)

Dragon Chain or Platebody (great defense bonus, cheaper then bandos)

Rune armor works fine for most tasks. I highly recommend getting a Fury and the Full slayer helm. Also, a bunyip is invaluable, so getting 68 sum should be a high priority. It should cost about 2mil from where you are now, using crimson to make Stranger Plants.

Edit: Should take you about 650 Stranger Plants to get 68 sum. So 2.7m for shards and Bagged plants (get the plants from the fally park girl, not the ge). Then if you trade all the pouches in for more shards, and sell those to petshop owner, you will get 1.4m back.

i agree with the above posters except for with 2 things...fury is NOT worth the 10.9m price tag atm. If you are going to get a fury wait until it drops to around 8-9m before buying it. Also on the full slayer helm unless you mage/range your tasks dont bother with the focus sight or hexcrest as their both fairly unstable atm.

In other words, never buy a fury.

Another nice combo if you are up for it is fighter torso and torags legs. Gives decent def and a +4 str bonus. Fury should take priority under most other things, don't feel bad if you need to use a glory.

PM me in game anytime

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

Fury is best amulet in the game for slaying. It is definitely worth it.

@PereGrin

Dragon Armour is simply awful and no one should ever buy it for slayer. Better off slaying in Bandos armour (if you can afford it), Barrows armour (If you can't afford Bandos but need the defence) or Proselyte (Have sufficient defence to cover all slayer tasks and would like to save money for Offensive boosting prayers).

Finally someone gives some decent advice. Proselyte, Verac's skirt, fire cape, full slayer helm, fury, barrows gloves, rune defender, whip, dragon boots, always pray piety. BAM, you're almost slaying at max speed. Buy a Guthan's plate (usually the cheapest barrows plate) for those hard-hitting tasks. You should also invest in a ZS for waterfiends.

Always use combat familiars. Cannon as much as possible.
