May 17, 201016 yr 1. Is it possible to poison a monster with a hit of zero damage, with either a poisoned arrow or melee weapon? I'd like to test this myself, but am unfortunately unable to, due to the nature of my character (click my sig for details). I think that it could be tested, though, if someone were to drain their strength down to 0 with certain drinks or sara brews, and then equip a bronze dagger (p) and hack away at some monster with it. If you ever saw green damage splats appear on a monster that you'd only hit 0's on, then we'd have proof that it's possible. 2. Following from the above question, if you kill a monster 100% with poison damage, do you get credit for the kill? (ie. When you kill a monster 100% with recoil/vengeance damage, you often don't get credit for killing said monster, so you don't get any item drops, and if a quest depends on you killing this monster, you won't be able to continue the quest if you've killed the monster only with recoil/vengeance. I need to know whether or not poison damage works in this same way. Thanks!)

May 17, 201016 yr 1. I believe it takes a maximum of 6 attacks to poison an opponent, even if they are all 0's. 2. I know that you do not receive a kill if a slayer assigned monster is killed with poison, so i don't believe you would receive credit for a monster killed with only poison damage. Hope that helps. Same as monsters cant poison you if they hit only 0s on ya actually mate the last part of your statement is incorrect. One monster i know that can poison even if dealing no damage is the spiders at the alter on ape atoll as i've been poisoned many times by them while dhing the monkey gaurds with protect melee on and them hitting all 0's
May 17, 201016 yr I think it used to be possible to poison on a hit of zero, because this was actually a fractional HP hit that got rounded down. Now that we have life points, I don't believe it is possible to get a 0 hit -- a 0 is a miss now. Not 100% sure on that. There are monsters that poison on contact, and some that poison on a successful hit. Players are always the latter. May 17, 201016 yr I remember reading a guide a while back on how to complete the fight caves at level 3. It involved killing everything with poison, so I'm pretty sure it was possible then. Now, though, with the lifepoints update, it might not be possible.

May 17, 201016 yr I know that there was a DYK in the Tip.It Times a while back that said you can poison with 3 dds specs even if you hit all zeros, but like people have said the lifepoints update may have changed all this (Gimme a sec to browse the archives...).Edit: Found it; Tip.It Times Oct. 11th 2009"... That it usually only takes six consecutive attacks with, for example, a Dragon Dagger (p++) to poison someone or something? The target must of course be able to be poisoned, but the attacks don't even need to do any damage. After hours of testing we can confirm this with reasonable certainty. May 18, 201016 yr I've poisoned iron/steel dragons after only hitting 0, it's pretty rare though, usually only happens like once per task. Usually it happens when I spec them several times, missing all hits :( but sometimes I don't use spec and it still happens.

Same as monsters cant poison you if they hit only 0s on ya Not true, you can "hit" and still only damage "0" without it counting as a miss. The proof for this is in Kuradals dungeon. People using rings can hit 40 damage, of which they did 0 and the ring did 40. This shows that even though you were going to hit a 0, you were still going to hit the monster and not miss it. give F2P a penny and they want a dime; give P2P a quarter, they want 100,000 dollars, your car, house, boat, social security number, credit card numbers, drivers license, clothes on your back and everything you ever owned or interacted with ever
May 18, 201016 yr I don't think monsters are a reliable way to test this. They seem to have different poisoning mechanics than players. For example, if you attack a cave slime, you get poisoned instantly, before it even attacks. May 18, 201016 yr Creaphis, I read your blog and think what your trying to do is really cool. Out of curiosity, what monster is it? The Demon Slayer one? PM me in game anytime It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet. That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.
May 18, 201016 yr Author Creaphis, I read your blog and think what your trying to do is really cool. Out of curiosity, what monster is it? The Demon Slayer one? Well, the answers to these questions will affect how I approach a great many quest monsters, but the one that's been on my mind most recently is the Temple Guardian from "Priest in Peril." Pures used to be able to kill that overgrown dog with cannons, but that doesn't work anymore... I probably won't finish that quest for a while anyway, because another point that's come to my attention recently is that as soon as Priest in Peril is completed, it's possible to get crawling hand slayer tasks from Burthorpe, which is a real drag when you have to recoil them... Lots of answers here suggest that poisoning monsters to death with hits of 0 is at least worth attempting, so I guess that I'll make it standard practice to attempt this method before I commit to damaging a monster in the normal way - and thus gaining that dreaded hp xp! I'm not sure how the melee accuracy calculations work, but I'm assuming that if I booze it up until my character's completely sloshed  (ie. until attack is at 0), and if I use a defensive or aggressive attack style, and if I balance out the accuracy of a bronze dagger (p++) with a berserker necklace, giving me negative melee attack bonuses overall, then it should be pretty unlikely that I ever do damage.
May 18, 201016 yr You should technically be able to poison on a hit of 0 after the lifepoints update. However, it will be 10 times as unlikely. Here's why: In the old hitpoints, random hits were generated by the servers, such as 23.563485642456742657346537. Java truncated (cut off excess) the number to two places, or only the 23. Suppose someone hit 0.32524643635. That is still a "hit," but it hits 0. Now, that 23.563485642456742657346537 would truncate to 23.5, and the servers would multiply it by 10, making your hit 235. The 0.32524643635 would give you a hit of 3. However, if you hit 0.02345, that is still a "hit," even though you dealt 0 damage. If you don't know programming or at least floating point values then the above probably won't make sense. [hide=Stats][/hide]"One death is a tragedy. A million deaths is a statistic."-Joseph Stalin
