I have no idea which chaotic weapon to choose out of the maul, longsword and rapier.

 

I like training slayer, killing tds and going to castle/clan wars.

rapier is great for slayer, good for td/castle wars

longsword is comparable, and sometimes inferior to a whip for slayer on most kuradal tasks

but great for td/castle wars

 

maul is great for td's, maybe castle wars

pretty useless for slayer

 

i'd say get a rapier first, it's the most versatile for you

Chaotic maul is superior to both godswords and zamorakian spears @ waterfiends, ignoring prayer bonus of course.

 

if you were to assume that waterfiends had 0 defence (which they clearly do not), then the zamorakian spear's DPS would only be 1.1% higher

but clearly the chaotic maul has much better accuracy, so there is no contest.

The choice of weapon to get actually depends on what you want in my opinion. If you opt for speed, rapier is the way to go. I chose to go for higher accuracy rather than speed, so I went for the longsword. As for maul, I can safely say that it's not suited for slayer, but it'll be good in PvP situations. But I'll say that the main reason why I chose the longsword over the rapier was that I took into consideration Mithril Dragon tasks from the masters, and I'll gladly use a defender along with super antifires, so the higher stab accuracy meant a slight difference for me, but likewise rapier is in a way faster than the longsword, just that it's not as accurate compared to the longsword.

 

So to sum it up, it's more of a choice of a higher accuracy or higher speed for you.

Defender, I sold my DFS years ago. I didn't even need any food when switching between SS and prot mage, with only ~250 melee def.

No, it doesn't. Longsword has slightly higher stab bonus, but the rapier's speed makes it better.

 

OT: The longsword isn't the best at anything, which is why I think it's the least valuable of the three weapons. The rapier is by far the best slaying weapon and it is the best weapon for killing dragons. The rapier is also arguably the best PKing weapon, since whips are often regarded as better than godswords due to their superior DPS and the rapier is much more powerful than a whip. The maul is also extremely effective when PKing, especially if you combine it with a granite maul for special attacks. The maul also excels at waterfiends, as mentioned, and at team bosses because of its high accuracy (you usually only get one or two attacks when anti-crashing at GWD, so you want it to be as high as possible). The maul is also the best normal melee weapon for TDs (provided you do not have a steel titan or ely/divine SS) due to their 300 damage limit prior to switching prayers. The long is way above average in all categories, but it's not "the best" at anything. In short, I'd recommend the rapier first and then the maul.

What I'm really interested to know is how the rapier performs relative to the longsword at melee bosses, with a shield. (Bandos, zammy, kq, dks, kbd)

Haven't seen many videos or data from people killing bosses with the rapier. I originally wanted the longsword for the boss killing ability, but I haven't really seen any conclusions that it is any better than rapier for bosses. I now use whip for every boss, so an improved whip seems like it might be preferable to a slower longsword (or not, hard to tell). The fact that the rapier owns for slayer is also very nice...

i was thinking a mual myself....i dont mind using whip for slayer as it is cheaper and i make alot of my money at tds (using claws for spec and gs when not using claws) based on this data i assumed the chatoic maul would be perfect for me but i have heard that it is incredibly inacurate and gs are better?

 

not sure ill prolyl get the maul to test anyways...as for rapier vs longsword i would personally get the longsword from thefriends ive talked to and vids iv watched the rapier albeit good at pking and slaying just sucks at boss slaying compared to the longsword

Was thinking exactly the same. I'm inclined to think that rapier is best on everyting solo.

might aswell just keep using a whip if you are going to get a rapier. rapier can only hit like ~5 dmg more and costs 200k/combat hours. imo that slight accuracy and 5 dmg+ isnt worth the 200k/h. might aswell get a longsword since it's more accurate and hits ~5 more than rapier. longsword is probably better than rapier in too pvm and pvp but not slayer.

It's less then 100k/hr of continuous combat. And the difference in kill speed between rapier and whip is definitely noticeable.

Only tried sara gwd, couldn't really hit. Haven't tried any others since I've been dc'ing a lot lately.
