How do i speed up my gold ore smelting?

Featured Replies

Guys, I bought 64k gold ores for lv89 smithing, I am 74 at the moment.

I am using gold smith glove + varrock armor 3

I still find smelting the gold ores very very slow.....

I can't imagine how long it will take for me to achieve my goal..

I am 90 herblore, 99 summon, 99 slayer and many other 99s, I find smelting gold ores less entertaining and reqires more clicks...(well less then hunter)

is there anything I can do to speed up my progress?

or this is the best i can do...?

thanks....

That's pretty much the best you can do.

If you're willing to spend more money, superheat as you smelt. This way it's possible to get around 120k smithing exp per hour, along with some magic exp if you want that. I think I use 14 or 15 nature runes on average per 27 gold ores, so you could calculate the cost if interested. It's quicker, but you'll have to pay attention more.

Totally spaced off Superheating. Superheating would help, as casting the spell doesn't stop the furnace smelting.

Superheating while smelting is a good idea if you have good alternative methods that you can use to profit in the time you saved.

Zarfot has a video on youtube on how to do it, and Grimy's smithing reference spreadsheets have the information you need about exp/hour and gp/exp.

It seems that smelting with gold gloves and gold ore only is 71k exp/hour and -3.81gp/exp, while superheating while smelting gold ore is 136k exp/hour and -6.28gp/exp.

thanks guys.

I tried the superheating method, it's not bad.

however, regardless of the money I spent, is there any other way that is better exp than this method?

for example making addy bars...etc

I m 76 smithing now. my goal is 89..

thanks.

you are using a pack yak for the smelting, right? if not, that's an easy way to speed things up.

the official blast furnace world is apparently also very fast for cheap smithing exp. if you bring feathers and shafts and make addy arrows that's supposed to be quite profitable. you can fletch the arrows as you run around the blast furnace as well. Haven't checked on prices or how full the world is ina while, so i don't really know if it still works. worth looking at though :)

I'm currently using a method consisting of only superheating: (Cost is about 95M 78-99 mage(well, near 99 for mage) and 80-99 smith)

Spam-click the superheat spell button, since it automatically switchs to invent after that. Play with the settings of the magic tab to get the superheating spell the lowest possible place it can be. (It should be on the next to last row, second column),

When I reach the ore I'm on for clicking, I just bank(and forget the 5 ores I'm not touching (Nats take up the last invent space)).

This way, I'm getting 230-250k xp an hour (250k is really hard to reach, though, I only found this ratio on 30-minutes (or less) timing interval, since it is very click intensive)), 56.2/109.2 of it being smithing xp, so 123-124k smithing xp an hour is very realistic.

Also, if you can check two things at the same time, watching a movie will help you keep your sanity. You might also get good at typing only with your left (or right....) hand.

To elaborate, I'd like to say that while they can hold extra ore, you have to open the bank window twice and the familiar's inventory instead of just the bank window. The walk to edgeville furnace is so short that it's better to use a magpie.

I think he means to bring more ores so you can smelt more ores in one run..?

is this correct?

Yes, but if you think about it, you need free space in your inventory to take items from your BoB, and when you're smelting gold, those free spaces do not exist.

You'd have to put 15 in pack yak and take out 15 to be quick with it, in which time banking is better since it takes a bit more time but you get a full inventory right there. It's more work for a similar amount of ores smelted I believe.

If you have the mining level for concentrated gold you can mine that and superheat it while mining to get exp. Then just sell the ore you bought.

Just an alternative, i think Zaaps might have something about it in his mining guide.
