This guide lists all tips, tricks, items, quests, miniquests, minigames, distractions, and miscellaneous things that are possible for a level 3 to do/use. This is also the basics for all pures.

General Recommendations

 

  • * Turn off your auto attack
     
    * Equip a bow or crossbow without ammo so you cannot accidentally attack anything. Flowers also work fairly well since they add -50 to Crush.
     
    * Use the minimap to move when you're going somewhere farther than a few steps; you can't attack anything when you use the minimap
     
    * Agility - even if you dislike Agility, it can help a lot with many other skills. Try to get it to at least 50.
     
    * Lumbridge Bank - It's nice to have an easy-access bank after you've died
    • ~ Complete Recipe for Disaster and at least one sub-quest so that you can access Lumbridge Castle's basement bank. No combat is required if you do the goblins sub-quest.
      ~ Complete Buyers and Cellars Quest and the three miniquests so that you can access the Thieves' Guild bank.

 

Pre-Tutorial Dungeon Account

 

  • Tutorial Island was changed to Tutorial Dungeon on September 17, 2009. If you created your account before the tutorial dungeon (the one with the dragon), you can go back to Sir Vant and offer to kill the dragon for him. He won't let you battle the dragon, instead, he'll give you 2 x 250 XP lamps.
     
    Sir Vant is located in the basement of a house slightly northeast of Lumbridge Castle. Look for the dungeon symbol.
     
    • * If your account was made before the change - You can keep going down the ladder and offering to kill the dragon, but he'll only give you the lamps once.
       
      * If your account was made after the change - You will get a message in-game: "The lower end of the ladder has been completely destroyed. You can't climb down it."

You can only put the XP into the skills you would have helped Sir Vant with: Attack, Constitution, Cooking, Defence, Firemaking, Fishing, Magic, Mining, Prayer, Ranged, Smithing, Strength, or Woodcutting.

 

Random Good Things - A quicklist of some good things that are throughout the guide.

 

  • * Able to do Treasure Trails (more info is in Distraction section)
     
    * Canifis/Mort Myre Penguins are possible to spy on Thursdays @ 7PM CST/8PM EST thanks to "The Herders" cc (more info is in the Distraction section)
     
    * Circus - It IS safe to do the Magic and Range performances if you do an emote *only* and then quit. You'll get 3 points per emote and 0 xp.
     
    * CW kills cape - combat not required
     
    * Dungeoneering is safe and easy to do, as long as you're aware of the combat XP gain dangers (more info is in the Miscellaneous section)
     
    * Foods (like Rocktail Fish) that can boost your lifepoints above the maximum (more info is in the Miscellaneous section)
     
    * Freaky Forester's Random Event doesn't give combat XP
     
    * Minigames such as Barbarian Assault and Soul Wars are possible (more info is in the Minigames section)
     
    * Slayer is possible with the proper use of reward XP (more info is in the Miscellaneous section)
     
    * You always have your home teleport (once every 30 minutes) incase you forget a teleport item (more transportation info is in the Miscellaneous section)
     
     
    ~ "The Herders" cc is a group of people that herd Canifis/Mort Myre penguins to the Salve River (near the Dig Site) on World 24. The penguin(s) are then spyable from across the river. If you are a player that routinely does Penguin Hide n' Seek, be sure to login at 7PM CST/8PM EST on Thursday and get your extra penguin points! These people are just awesome for what they do :thumbsup:

 

Rings Of Recoil

 

  • Shatters after recoiling 400 lifepoints. This is determined, not by the individual ring, but by the player's account. You can see how many recoils you have left by equipping a recoil and then right clicking on it and checking it.
     
    The only way to "reset" it is to have a Ring of Recoil shatter in combat. "Resetting" your recoils is a good thing to do right before a difficult boss fight. Equip a recoil and just let an aggressive low-level monster attack you until the ring shatters.

 

Skilling - things to think about when skilling

 

  • * Amulet of Glory (charged) gives a better chance of getting gems while mining
     
    * Farming XP from launching a Grand Seed Pod (100 xp each time, several seconds of delay inbetween)
     
    * Farming XP while picking herbs or fruit from Sorceress's Gardens (30 from Winter, 40 from Spring, 50 from Autumn, or 60 from Summer)
     
    * Fez (hat) - helps protect against the desert sun (goes with the rest of the desert clothing)
     
    * H.A.M. costume (all 7 parts) while thieving from H.A.M. members reduces your chance of being caught
     
    * Hunting XP from feeding rabbits Ogleroots at Vinesweeper (30 XP each time)
     
    * Items that will hold more things
    • ~ Coal Bag - holds up to 27 Coal
      ~ Gem Bag - holds up to 100 gems (Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby, and Diamond)
      ~ Runecrafting Pouches - holds Essence and degrades with use
      ~ Seaweed Net - holds up to 10 Seaweed per net and breaks randomly
      ~ Statue Collection Bag - holds statue pieces for the Shattered Heart Distraction

 

* Scroll of Cleansing - a chance to complete the potion faster and a chance to save the secondary ingredient (permanent effect)

 

* Scroll of Efficiency - a chance to keep a bar while smithing an item that requires at least 3 bars (permanent effect)

 

* Scroll of Life - a chance to reclaim seeds while Farming (permanent effect)

 

* Skills Necklace (charged) gives a better chance of getting caskets while Big Net Fishing

 

* Strung Rabbit Foot gives a better chance of getting bird nests while woodcutting ivy or trees

 

* ZMI Altar is possible at even level 1 Runecrafting (after you've completed Rune Mysteries)

 

Things to Avoid

 

  • * Barbarian fishing (barehanded and with heavy rod) gives Strength XP
     
    * Circus gives Range/Magic XP if you successfully do anything else besides emote(s) in the Range/Magic areas
     
    * Cold War gives a random Attack XP bonus (40-100) after killing the Icelord
     
    * Dungeoneering automatically shares XP, so be sure your Share XP is OFF
     
    * Dungeoneering can give combat XP in certain puzzles and doors
     
    * Gnome Ball Minigame gives Range XP
     
    * Items like the Berserker Necklace which reduces Attack Style bonuses but adds Strength Bonuses
     
    * Observatory Quest's random reward at the end. You can find out what reward you'll get before you complete it.
     
    * Puro Puro gives occasional Strength XP when pushing through the wheat
     
    * Pyramid Plunder gives Strength XP when you open a Sarcophagus
     
    * Quests such as Restless Ghost are easily done by a level 3 but give combat XP as a 'reward'
     
    * Ratcatchers Quest can give Constitution XP when your cat is fighting with the king rat
     
    * Requesting Assistance for enchanting Sapphire Jewelry - you will get the XP because it's a level 1 Magic requirement
     
    * Tai Bwo Wannai Trio Quest - after completing the quest, Tamayu will give you 2,500 Attack XP and 2,500 Strength XP if you talk to him
     
    * Tears of Guthix Distraction will put the XP into your lowest skill (including level 1's)

Notes: This is one of the hardest quests to do as a skiller. When you're fighting, you can leave the room and have your friend cast Vengeance Other on you (every 30 seconds) and/or give you food/rings of recoil. Then reenter the room and continue the fight.

 

Miniboss: I ate 17 rocktail fish and used 1 full recoil with a bit of another (so bring 3 just incase), and his highest hit that I saw was 84.

 

Boss: I ate 18 rocktail fish and I think I used 3 recoils and part of another. The Possessed Priest can supposedly hit into the 90's and you have to kill him in less than 6 minutes, otherwise he disappears and you have to start over again.

When I was outside of the Possessed Priest room, my friend cast Vengeance Other on me and I waited 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, I entered the room and went through the quest dialogue. Doing this allowed me to use up my Vengeance Other (when the fight started) and immediately have it cast again.

 

Just like the miniboss fight, there's a door in the way so I had to exit the room to have Vengeance Other cast. Yes, I could see my friend while I was in the fight room. She was (kindly) in charge of timing the 30 seconds. She would say "now" and I exited the fight room, Vengeance Other was cast on me, and I reentered the fight room. Rinse and repeat.

 

Also, I would recommend bringing a weapon higher than bronze (I used an Iron Scimitar) because I had difficulty hitting the miniboss and the priest. I think it's possible to poison the priest but if you have recoils and a friend that can cast Vengeance Other, you should be fine time-wise.

 

If your friend doesn't have a watch or something with seconds, they can left click on the computer time in the lower right corner. Select "change date/time" and a screen will pop up with the hour/minutes/seconds. [/hide][/hide]

Reward: Access to Zanaris, ability to buy Dragon Longswords and Daggers, and ability to make Cosmic Runes

Notes: Do 1 damage to the spirit and then go to a safe spot. Let your friend cast a curse on the spirit so they take over the fight and then they can use Rings of Recoil to kill it.[/hide]

Items Recommended: A lot of all teleports. Falador Teleports, Lumbridge Teleports, Camelot Teleports, Ardougne Teleports, Duelling Ring, a few Lockpicks, Energy Potions, Spotted/Spottier Cape, Boots of Lightness, and some food. Bring friends that can cast vengeance and hold food to both fights, they're both extremely difficult.

I suggest tuna or some other decent one bite hp food (rocktails are kind of overdoing it, but they'd be nice for the overheal) for this part and for the last herb. Notes: DO NOT open a sarcophagus, it will give you Strength XP.

 

The traps will hit harder the farther in you go.

 

As long as someone else hasn't started a game, the door to the next room is the same for everyone so you can watch where people go to move faster yourself. Don't go into a too-crowded world because the monsters can be aggressive to other players.

 

A lot of items (including Super Antipoison and Ring of Duelling) will save over the Pharaoh's Sceptre when killed. Remember to check your three items kept upon death to be sure your Pharaoh's Sceptre saves. Don't bring anything you'd regret losing incase you die.

 

Don't worry about Stone Artifacts unless you have room because you ate a piece of food. Drop the Pottery/Ivory Artifacts as you go and keep an eye out for Gold Artifacts that fall on the ground due to a full inventory. This helps keep a good supply of artifacts for the sceptre recharges.[/hide]

    Notes: Using these methods at level 40 Agility, I was able to get most of the tickets, sometimes not missing any before I ran out of food:
     
    • * If you cannot use the Thieves' Guild bank or the Lumbridge Castle basement bank, keep a Ring of Duelling or some other sort of teleport that saves as one of your three items kept (Ardougne Teletab doesn't save over cakes). You can make it back in three minutes pretty easily if you are prepared.
      * DO NOT go through Darts until 70+
      * After tagging each ticket, head back towards the center pillar
      * Avoid the Hand-Holds, they take forever and you can still fail them into the 80's
      * Try to keep North facing up, you'll memorize the arena eventually if you do
      * If you have the option of going through a failable obstacle path or an unfailable obstacle path, go through the unfailables

    Bind a bow and equip it on each Floor.

    * Colored Tiles and Ferrets - Get the ferrets onto their matching colored tiles. Stand a few steps back and slowly walk the ferret towards it's tile. If it gets stuck against a wall, you spam-click scare ferret.
     
    * Crystal/Light Puzzle - DO NOT touch the lodestones. However, you can step on the pressure pads and finish the puzzle.
     
    * Enigmatic Hoardstalker - Although it's safe, it requires a specific Summoning level to understand him. You can retrieve the item from any obstacle that might be in the way (such as a locked door or chest).
     
    * Falling Rubble/Mining - Mine the obstacles and repair the walls before rubble falls down again.
     
    * Ferret Hunter Trap - Make traps and chase the ferret into one.
     
    * Ferret on the Island - DO NOT throw the fish onto the island. However, you can catch and cook the fish.
     
    * Fliptiles - Runecrafting requirement. Flip the tiles so they're all one color. Let the higher lifepoint person force a tile or two if you cannot complete the puzzle because the person can take over 100 damage per tile.
     
    * Flying Books/Rotating Bookcases - get the books into the correctly colored bookcases by turning the rotatable bookcases. The books will fly back and forth inbetween bookcases that are facing eachother.
     
    * Follow the Leader - Each member steps onto a pressure pad and follows the emotes of their individual statue. All members must be correct or you all lose.
     
    * Fremennik Camp - Restock the Warrior's supplies
     
    * Grapple Tightrope - DO NOT throw the grapple. However, you can make the entire grapple and then walk across the rope.
     
    * Icy Pressure Pad - Step on the four pressure pads that are scattered throughout the room.
     
    * Jump Ledge/Repair Bridge - on one side there is a box of material that can be used to repair the bridge, you might have to jump the gap to get to the materials
     
    * Magical Construct - Repair the construct. DO NOT imbue the body part. However, you can get the magic rock and craft the body part.
     
    * Pondskater - Fishing puzzle; use a fly fishing rod to catch the one that has the key. You can only catch them at the edge of the water and when you catch the correct one the doors will unlock.
     
    * Sarcophogus/Poltergeist - DO NOT consecrate the herbs, however you can light the censers
     
    * Seeker Sentinels - Although it's annoying to do with low lifepoints, it won't give XP. Get to the other side undetected by either stunning the creatures or following someone that is stunning them.
     
    * Sleeping Guards - turn off your run and pickpocket the guards, if you fail they all wake up and become aggressive
     
    * Sliding Statues - Four sets of statues and you have to match two of them to the other two.
     
    * Sliding Tiles (3x3 tiles) - slide the tiles around to make a picture
     
    * Suspicious Grooves - Three rows of grooves. Let the higher lifepoint person find the path and just follow the safe spots.
     
    * Switch Trap - A room with 5 switches. Divide up the switches and flip them as quickly as possible.
     
    * Ten Statue Weapon - Five statues have weapons and five statues don't. Make the second set the better side of the combat triangle. Melee beats Range, Range beats Magic, and Magic beats Melee.
     
    * Three Statue Weapon - Two statues have a weapon and one doesn't. Complete the combat triangle.
     
    * Toxic Maze - If you stay in the maze too long you'll start taking damage and eventually die. You won't gain any combat XP doing it.

* Whether or not you know about your food options can determine if you complete a difficult quest, survive running through a dangerous area, and how fast you level certain skills.

 

 

Biscuits - Heals up to 30 lifepoints per biscuit. Although stackable, they aren't tradeable; they are obtained as a reward from Treasure Trails.

 

Cake - A three-bite food that heals 40 per bite and 120 total. These are good for agility or running through a large area of monsters. They're also cheaper than lobster and heal for the same amount.

 

Chocolate Cake - a more expensive three-bite cake. Each bite heals 50, so 150 total. These are still good for training agility.

 

Guthix Rest (tea) - a four-bite food. Although it only heals 10 lifepoints, it also cures poison, restores energy, and can boost your maximum lifepoints by 50. This can only be made during and after the One Small Favour Quest.

 

Jug of Wine - a one-bite food that heals 110. These can be free or even make a small profit to use (depending on the GE Market prices) if you keep the empty jugs.

 

Mackerel - An extremely cheap one-bite food that heals 60. This is my favorite food for when I'm doing something like Penguin Hide N' Seek.

 

Pie - A bit expensive, but they can be useful. Each pie is a two-bite food.

  • * Redberry - 50 per bite, 100 total
    * Fish - 60 per bite, 120 total (+3 Fishing)
    * Garden - 60 per bite, 120 total (+3 Farming)
    * Meat - 60 per bite, 120 total
    * Apple - 70 per bite, 140 total
    * Admiral - 80 per bite, 160 total (+5 Fishing)
    * Summer - 110 per bite, 220 total (+5 Agility)

Pizza - A bit expensive, but they can be useful. Each pizza is a two-bite food.

  • * Plain - 70 per bite, 140 total.
    * Meat - 80 per bite, 160 total.
    * Anchovy - 90 per bite, 180 total.
    * Pineapple - 110 per bite, 220 total.

Purple Sweets - Expensive but stackable. Each piece heals up to 30 lifepoints and restores 20% Energy.

 

Rocktail - A one-bite food that heals 230. Although this is higher than a level 3's maximum lifepoints, rocktails also can heal up to 100 lifepoints higher than a player's maximum health. They're expensive but they're worth it for helping you kill a high-hitting monster for a quest or running through high level monster areas.

 

Saradomin Brew - A four-bite food that raises your lifepoints by 15% and your defence by 25%. Lowers your Attack, Magic, and Range by 10%. When I used it, it healed me 35 lifepoints per dose, boosted my lifepoints up to 135, raised my defence to 3, and dropped my Attack, Magic, and Range to 0.

 

Tuna - A one-bite food that heals 100. Although a little more expensive than mackerel, it's sometimes nice to max your lifepoints.

 

Common foods that are not worth buying:

  • * Bass - heals 130, not more beneficial than tuna
    * Cavefish - heals 200, not really more beneficial than tuna
    * Lobster - heals 120, not more beneficial than tuna
    * Monkfish - heals 160, not more beneficial than tuna

    * Strawberry basket - 7% Constitution heal is bad for a skiller

I've seen you around Edgeville W116 a fair few times, and always thought you were an awesome skiller. This is a great guide for skillers of all kinds. It's well thought out and well written. :)

@ IIBowsII - I think I'm done with Edgeville for awhile, though my favorite world will probably always be 116 :grin: Good to know someone besides me thinks it's useful. I originally made most of it for myself but I thought I'd share :wink:

I didn't read it because yellow and some other colours hurt my eyes while using my fond. Seems like an interesting guide though, so if you just use the normal black, I'll give it a shot.

@ Wachtwoord - Thanks for the feedback (again :P ) They all worked for me (I use IE). I'll remove all of the size coding from the hide/shows and see if that helps. PLEASE don't just edit things yourself. If you have suggestions for it, I'll look into it. It took me an extremely long time to make this guide and quite a bit of time to work the coding. I do appreciate your suggestions though :grin:

I just finished reorganizing about half of the guide's coding and I added an extremely thorough Treasure Trail guide.

 

Looking back at some of the other areas, I've decided to expand them a little bit past the very basics (not too drastically though). I'm not sure when it's going to happen but I'm not happy with how bare it looks... with the show/hides I can add more than I originally thought so I'll get working on that.

 

If anyone has something they want me to add/expand on, let me know and I'll look at it.

@ RUNESCAPEfantasy - Thanks! There isn't a way to complete Shadow of the Storm, choosing your combat XP (Attack, Strength, Defence, HP, Range, or Magic) is what completes the quest. It might be possible to get Darklight, depending on whether or not it changes before or after quest completion. However, if it changes before quest completion, equipping and unequipping the sword is what prompts the XP screen to appear and I could easily see myself clicking on something on accident. :P I definately won't do it on my skiller account, but I'll look into it.

Good guide :thumbup: I was just wondering about the quest Icthlarin's Little Helper. I know if you get a veng helper, you can see them outside the room for the first boss. What I'm not sure about is the second boss. Can you see other people while you fight it? I'm hoping that my helper can stand beside me and veng as needed. If you could clear that up for me, I'd really appreciate it :blink: Also, as a suggestion, you could maybe add the agility pyramid to your course section? I know it's not commonly used, and there is an obstacle that can wipe out a level 3 if you fail, but imo, it is worth using when you stop falling. I'm not exactly sure what level that is, but I used it a few times when I was 70+ agility, and it was pretty decent. I found it better than randomly dying in the wild.

Icthlarin's Little Helper's Possessed Priest:

 

When I was outside of the Possessed Priest room, my friend cast Vengeance Other on me and I waited 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, I entered the room and went through the quest dialogue. Doing this allowed me to use up my Vengeance Other (when the fight started) and immediately have it cast again.

 

Just like the miniboss fight, there's a door in the way so I had to exit the room to have Vengeance Other cast. Yes, I could see my friend while I was in the fight room. She was (kindly) in charge of timing the 30 seconds. She would say "now" and I exited the fight room, Vengeance Other was cast on me, and I would re-enter the fight room. Rinse and repeat.

 

Also, I would recommend bringing a weapon higher than bronze (I used an Iron Scimitar) because I had difficulty hitting the miniboss and the priest. I think it's possible to poison the priest but if you have recoils and a friend that can cast Vengeance Other, you should be fine time-wise.

 

If your friend doesn't have a watch or something with seconds, they can left click on the computer time in the lower right corner. Select "change date/time" and a screen will pop up with the hour/minutes/seconds.

Thanks for the response :^_^: You reminded me of something I forgot to ask the first time. When I'm killing the bosses, do I have to hit at least one point of damage on my own for it to count as my kill? Or does the Vengeance spell cover it? I use an iron dagger (p++) when I need to hit something, and hope like heck I get lucky and poison it lol. Thanks again :)

Nice guide! I haven't read everything yet, but I'll remember to use it as a reference. Some parts will help me with what I'm doing (click my sig if you want details).

 

Now, I have a few tips of my own I could share.

 

1. The best single-bite full-heal food for a skiller isn't tuna, it's wine. Wine heals 110 life points, and usually costs between 50 and 60 coins on the GE. If you save the jugs, wine is free, even profitable to drink, because the jugs are more valuable. :smile:

 

2. Skillers can also change their default looks in bedrooms in player-owned houses. This is most useful for changing boots, which can only otherwise be changed in Relekka after completing "The Fremmenik Trials," as I'm sure you know.

 

3. You could include a Barbarian Assault section in the minigame section of your guide. If you choose the same role as another player, you'll earn as many points as they do in your shared role, even if you do nothing. The first 9 waves can be passed easily. The position behind the Horn of Glory is 100% safe (and also, you can help your team from here by calling their duties). The egg launcher platforms are 99% safe - the only danger is penance rangers that move south of the platforms and then target you. The "collector" role can be played even if you're the only collector on the team, as long as you're careful about only gathering eggs when there are no dangerous monsters around. You can also play as an "attacker," as no combat XP is earned in BA, but attempting to do this would be very foolish. :-P The main benefit of playing BA on a skiller is to get and fill a penance horn or master penance horn, which help when training agility. The secondary benefit is that having a master penance horn on a level 3 character is extremely awesome. (The horns could also be added to your equipable items list.)

 

4. Also, no combat is required to earn a CW kills cape. When you kill someone by collapsing a ceiling on them in the underground, you get credit for that kill. That's how I got my cape. 8-)
