Arbalest-

Nice, though expensive bow verse cheap defence....I mean if your entire army had to be upgraded to Arbalests then I might as well forget about the boats and run at you with a cheap sword while you struggle to kill one or two of us in a minute.

I use mostly arbalestiers, and for the record an arbalestier can shoot 2 bolts every 30 seconds, killing multiple enemies through pierceing.

Having your entire army carry around boats seems really useless when my tarrapin unit does exactly the same thing in a testudo formation, and it means I don't have to have four people under a single boat acting as a shield for all four.

Meh, boat = free arrow defence which requires no training, all of your arguements ignore that.

But you are right Ross, having my entire army carry around armour does seem like a pretty stupid thing to do...No, wait, thats not carrying around armour.

Also, is this game played in the 15 century? Since I was under the impression it was the 9th cenury(1000), in which case Mechanical Crossbows do not exist.

A skilled arbalestier (arblaster) could shoot two bolts per minute.

Single file troop attacks are silly, hence why piercing damage would have little effect...Unless of course I was attacking with 30,000 troops from one direction, in which case the hoard would be susceptible.

Mather, having your force mainly made up of troops like that shows tremendous short sightedness when I could deploy a troop of longbowmen and a few swordsmen behind a shallow incline and kill your entire force...Or significantly destroy your force while losing, at most 500 people.

Diversity is what makes armies strong.

Another benefit, which the Terrapin defence doesn't cover is Catapult attack. 50 people in close proximity = 50 deaths.

2, or even 4 people under a boat = 2 to 4 deaths....

Thus the killing power of a catapult is dramatically reduced.

Also, to clarify, I am not deploying my army with boat defences...Since I am not currently deploying an army to fight people.

Well I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

Sad news to announce. The King of Italia has died from undetermined causes. His only child, a son of the age of 3, is not yet fit to rule, so a replacement is being sought after. The prime candidate is his nephew, the duke of Venice.

I'll do it.

It's a REALLY big shaft.

I didn't catch fire, I used the can of hairspray as a flamethrower and pointed it at my arm.

how are you going to ignore my posts when I'm offering to let you live as my vassal in two weeks time?

I have an Asian map on the front page and an updated European, btw. Thanks, but I already found it. Took forever to get rid of the dots though.

So... response from Ireland Retech? Remember, the message was to an NPC ruler, not Poseidon.

The Duke of Dublin, the most prestigious lord except for the great ruler, Poseidon, sends you a message. "Fuzz off!"

Hmmm, I don't know if I should consider invading England, spy reports tell me they're quite fortified, and that they have a smart leader, so that means he will be quite a good general, also his people love him so they will rise up if I invade.

Hmmm seems like everyone is exploiting this unique unit thing.

Maybe I should of thought of units I could use more, instead of just blood kinghts.

Chaos has erupted in the Italian political world. The Kings nephew attempted to take the throne, but was assassinated by an angry mob of peasants. Foreign dukes are now trying to take control of the throne. The lords of the Seat of Seven have stepped in, and have declared themselves the rulers of Italia until a valid heir is found or the kings son ages. The peasants and nobles seem rather pleased with this, although those in the kings line of blood are quite perturbed.

My 12,000 Hlaupari are withdrawn from Europe, and General Kyrrd is instructed to gather information on Ireland, given 10,000 Hlaupari to use at his jurisdiction. Dissent is spread against the current government, files are created on the nobles and how likely they would be to betray their current government for bribes, and pro-Icelandic propaganda is discreetly spread. The immediate primary objective is to gather information on the estimated defensive force that could be marshalled in case of a direct invasion.

@Rocco:

Hlaupari function as scouts, spies, assassins, shock troops, and general stealth soldiers. Their primary weapons are used as grappling hooks in addition to beating the crud out of polearm troops and cavalry, and they have a number of recent and useful additions to their arsenals. Your Lochabres probably beat my Hlaupari in terms of pure force, but Hlaupari are highly adept at tactics and strategy. If my Hlaupari managed to punch your formation in the right places and prevent full-force retaliation, or take you by surprise, they would probably do a lot of damage.
