xarronx
ok today an alert from my internet security norton tells me a attempt was blocked to assess my computer through a port commonly used by trojans!! the remote address was: 192.168.1.3 can i track the location of the attempt at all??? i live in the uk btw Timmy is so good at it that people ask him for help. He Said Excuse me Hell Slayer can I speak to you for a moment, would you like to join a clan called The White Legion? Its your items and to have someone steal it, without hesitation, its just wrong. Guest andyizcool
the remote address was: 192.168.1.3 That's technically not an IP address but more of a network address for your home computers because all the computers on my network all start with 192.168.1.x being a number 1 to 9. If you have a Firewall like Sygate you can trace IPs and it displays their real full IP address and also gives an email address of where to report abuse to. indy500fan
yeah, my ip address of this computer is 192.168.1.2, and my family 192.168.1.3, and my router is 192.168.1.1 (not from outside looking in of course). if you dont have any network set up, then you might want to worry. if you do, then you will still want to figure it out, but you might have to clean the other computers. devilheart14
Shields up the rest of your family is attempting to hack you!! Daddy... were are u  umm ip addresses like 192.168.1.3 in your case are coming from like a computer on the network i assume. This means that maby if your computers are connected e.g. your brothers over a network he may have been trying 2 access something or a program of yours was just working online and picked up from ure firewall. Should benothing to worry about. To trace ip addresses there are several programs some better then others: http://www.urgentclick.com/address_trace.php one of several free online ip trace services http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&hs=ERN&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official_s&q=free+online+ip+trace&spell=1 http://www.visualroute.com - there may be a trial version Aussie Aussie Aussie, :D
DaN
that ip is listed as "Private Ip Address Lan" in otherwords is from another system on your home network. My IP is 192.168.0.2 from inside my home network and 139.168.247.97 out on the internet. I belive all 192.168.0.x ips are reserved for use on local networks and not used out on the internet. It came from inside your network if you have a nat router then the personal firewall on your computer will only see unsolicited traffic from within your network since the router acts as a firewall to all inbound traffic from the internet. ~Dan64AuSince 27 Aug 2002
osman2123
very possible if you have an ip address you can go as far as collecting data about geographiocal location as far as address unless they are on a wireless connection, or if the person runes a dileup connection you can even collect the phone number they connect from -- if you are running any win os except something like win server 03 i dont think you can get any more detail from the ip as far as geographic location will only trace down to the city for security -- edit: open command promp in winxp and type Netstat -n to acquire your ip address and everything you are connected to
greenslime89
yes with mcaffee firewall you can trace the ip to a city in the world - i was being hacked from asia, paris, london and somewhere in america  if it says "your firewall has blocked a connection attempt from ip: xyz" or something along those lines your ok :) Photos! Albosky
There really wasnt a need to bump a 6 day old post that the origina poster had most likely abondoned but If that router also has wireless features , then you DO have something to worry about a neighbor of mine had an unsecured wireless router that my system would pick up all the time until I offered to disable the broadcast I like to fart silently but deadly in movie theatersArd Choille says (11:41 PM):I wouldn't dare tell you what to do m'dear

Hannibal
195.110.176.34 And then to think Newptor won't even allow encoded hostmasks from a whois reply to be pasted into the IRC chat. (note that the hostmasks are encoded such that the result is unique, but the encoding is irreversable without knowing the 3 unique numbers that IRC server uses for its encryption. Those numbers are in the server configuration file, which nobody can access, unless they have access to the server's filesystem, which is far worse than just knowing your IP. indy500fan
well, using the two dos commands i know that do something over the internet, i found merc is 19 hops from me, and is using voyager as his isp, i guess he lives in wiltshire too, unless wiltshire is his isp, and voyager is where he lives. by the 18th hop it was up to 127ms, dont know how fast that is, but on the 19th hop it said destination net unreachable. same thing when i pinged it. thats all i can do with an ip :P
Mercifull
Voyager is the ISP and Wiltshire is the County, not town, that the IP belongs to. Population approx 436,000 ^_^ Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues RuneScape for others. Blake16
Commview.... an AWESOME program. you can get a free version try searching google. Just select the network adapter you want to monitor and click the play button it will show you two ip's, a port #, and packet size, etc The 192.*.*.* is most likely a network ip and not remote (it'll be something like 192.168.1.3) the other one thats like 67.132.78.1 (random ip address i made up) then thats your ip. Most likely you'll get lots of them and everytime you load a site a new one will pop up. Look for ip addresses on the port the the norton said was being accessed. Then you will see the remote and local ip (your looking for the one that does NOT begin with 192.168.*.*) And there's your ip address accesing that port. FYI 80 is the http port used for web browsing
