010jonathan
I'm going to do Nomad's requiem and I'll be spending 100 points on either ranging or 90 points on summoning. I did the calculations and I have to choose between: 792K ranged xp or 98k summoning xp (blue charms on lava titans) This is a huge difference, huger than I can take to choose on myself :\ I want 93 summoning 'badly' for that diary but I'm not really sure if that feeling outweights the enormous ranged xp I can choose as an alternative. I'd like to know your opinions, almost 800k xp in a skill level 95 that takes me 1 big step near 99 or summoning ?
o_ztejas_o
Anything that makes a 99 easier I would go for it. If you don't you can lose motivation to train ranged pretty easily, but that 800k boost will make you want to get 99 even more imo Runescape is a game, if you aren't having fun then don't play, if you can't stop playing then quit. Add this to your sig if you've seen every "new" skill released.
Elf Spice
Charms are never worth it, IMO 90 Zeal takes around 12 hours to get, assuming you win every game, waiting time included. 98k/12 = 8.16k xp/ hr Barraging rock lobsters easily gives 10x that amount per hour. But if you were dead set on buying charms, I think Crimsons are more xp.

I'm just using my zeal from nomad's requiem (and I'm getting a few more zeal to fit a bonus or a full charm reward) I also calced blue charms (lava titans) vs crimson charms (praying mantis) and lava titans gave me 10k more sum xp (for 90 charms) :P
Elf Spice
Well, if you never plan on playing SW again, then the whole XP/hr thing is irrelevant, I guess. But if you are, think about it this way: 1.2 hours to gain 98k summoning xp at lobsters or 3.5 hours chinning to gain 792k ranged xp.

Obtaurian
Ranged. It's way easier to get 90k summoning exp than 700k ranged exp. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

(Roughly) 1.2hrs for 100k summoning x3 = 3.6hrs =300k summoning exp. Compared to 3.5hrs = 700k+ range exp Summoning is better is what they're saying. Training range is cheaper and easier IMO whether your training typically or chinning. Not to mention the difference between a range level and a summoning level can be alot more of a deal if your talking about unlocking bunyip, war tortise, titans, unicorn, yak, etc. Just using some logic, but in the end its up to you! CaJ
Despite Summoning being very useful at high levels, I would go for Ranged. More EXP towards a 99 or Total EXP equals better in my opinion.

GL to you. I think your reading into it too much. That zeal spent at range will save 3.5 hours of chinningThat same zeal spent on charms will only save him ~1.2 hours of rock lobs I'd go for the range, although summon xp is generally harder/more expensive to come by, it isnt 8 times harder. EDIT: And the range xp is free. You still have to pay to use the charms
Zoov
Why spend the zeal on charms? Can't it be spent directly on summoning? 010jonathan
Money isn't the problem :P I think i'll spend more money on 800k summoning xp than on 800k ranged xp :P But yea, I'm 99 prayer ;-)
Mio
I'd spend it on range. Reason: Higher range level = More powerful hits = Faster kills = More charms.
