SGS - Good time to buy?

Featured Replies

I'll be finishing up with 99 magic in a few days which means I'll have the money to purchase one, and I figure if I'm gonna be doing alot of combat then that would probably be the best use for my money. My question is, is now a good time to buy? In the future I'd like to have the option to resell without losing like 10m, but it seems that they're going down at a fairly steady pace. Is this a temporary or permanent crash? Thanks for your help.

Whip > godsword for day-to-day. Can't say much about claws as I have no experience with them.

If you don't have soul split you will be better off buying that.

Hm. I don't have soul split yet but I do intend on getting 95 prayer once I get enough money. So, if I have access to a bunyip is SGS pretty much a waste? And without soul split do DClaws have any merit either? Again, thank you for your suggestions.

what do you do, or intend to do with the sgs?

there is no where that SGS is worth it anymore, get higher stats first, then claws as a specing weapon.

DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers rings

QBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow parts

It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.

I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty).

All DFS threads turn into efficiency flame wars >.>

>someone says "stop bashing people who use DFS, efficiency troll ass clown"

>thread is now a flame fest

I guarantee you'll have twice the fun with claws and three times the fun with soul split.

If you can sell the SGS for soul split, do it. That said, SGS + combat familiar > claws + healing familiar. If you need the SGS to use a combat familiar comfortably, you might want to get it. But spending the money on soul split would be infinitely better.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

You forgot claws + combat familiar + food > SGS + combat familiar

and the fact that you cant use a combat familiar on all tasks, while you can use claws.

Cept waterfiends, but that's beside the point. Honestly I think WFS might be the ONLY place where SGS is good.

it's decent at solo rex, but then again there's more efficient ways to DK.

claws + ss is way better, get spec restores and yer set to go.

I had a hard time on some tasks if I didn't use my EE for specs (that's with barrows armor, fire cape, 10% strength, and combat familiar) when I was lower leveled, but that was before Kuradal's dungeon (which means I was doing multi-combat tasks a LOT).

I don't really know if he'd have the same problem I did back then, but if it can be done, claws + combat familiar + food would definitely be best.

Well I'm definitely going for DClaws + 95 prayer + high summoning now, haha. Are waterfiends still a good way to acquire charms though? And if I were to buy an SGS temporarily, just to use with getting charms, the way it's crashing would I lose money if I sold it after getting the charms I need?

That's the best way to go. Waterfiends are still great for charms, yes. You make money at waterfiends, and the charms need to be considered in the "cost" of using the SGS, so you wouldn't really lose money. It'd be worth it.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

I recently bought back AGS and D-claws which I had sold alongside some other high level items before the drop. I feel now is a good time, as the panic about TT reward items has left, and not everyone feels the need to put their cash into the new TT items. Their banks were liquidated as a precaution (as well as my own). I personally see little use from the sgs as both food and prayer potions are quite cheap at the moment. Although, if it's what you want, then now might be a good time. Just be aware that it will likely become less and less effective in the game, unless some update turns that around.

I personally wouldn't spend my money on a SGS as there are better options. I guess it might make for an OK flip?

EDIT: And now I just read the above posts. Stick with the claws/turmoil/summoning.
