Fight Caves Preping

Zaaps1

Recommended Posts

I'm in need of a bit of a challenge, so I decided to go out and get my first firecape. Kinda sad, at my levels, but whatever, it's gonna get me 2 elite diaries done so I won't complain.

First of all, my (relevant) stats and items.

-99 attack, strength, defense

-90 range

-98 magic, access to all spellbooks

-99 summoning

-96 prayer, access to both prayerbooks

-99 hitpoints

-Overloads, Extremes, and Brews

-Chaotic Longsword, although the Rapier is another long-term goal of mine, so it's possible that I get the Rapier before attempting the Fight Caves. Is this recommended? Or should I not bother?

-Dragonstone (i), Zerker (i), Warrior (i)

-Void Melee and Range

-Soul Wars Cape/Accumulator

-Large cashpile to work with

-Super Enhanced Excalibur

I will buy any item that will be useful, so long as it's not a Spirit Shield (excluding Blessed, since that's rather cheap), unless you can convince me otherwise. I have plenty of cash, but I'm not extravagantly rich that I can afford a Divine or Elysian. So that being said, any ammo/armor/etc. I will buy if need be.

So, what is the best setup and strategy I should use?

Standard melee gear, and a chaotic weapon

If you're comfortable flashing SS, you should have no problem meleeing jad (switch to range/mage prayer when you see his attack animation, then back to melee prayer right after you get hit). With CLS/turm/OVL's you have quite a high chance of downing jad through the healers, or before they can even reach him. Ranging him is fine too if you don't want to melee him, though I'd strongly suggest meleeing the 360's.

1-3 OVL's depending on whether you're using them through the entire caves, or just on the 360's/jad

An EE/EEE is definitely worth the spot

depending on how you pray 3-10 ppots

After that just take however many brews you think you'll need (I usually only take two incase of an emergency on jad and flash SS on everything else), and whatever other gear you'd like, possibly a spec weapon or range stuff for jad.

If you can possibly get the fightcaves slayer task, a FSH would help you out tremendously.

[motivation] If you don't get it, I'm going to laugh at you.

Kind of reminds me of Lalala doing his fight caves with overloads + super prayers

anyway, good luck

edit: I also see a lot more people using melee throughout the entire caves now-a-days, one of those persons being toad; they claim it to be a very fast method

Yes. With that gear, it shouldn't take you much more than 45min.

EDIT: D'oh; while on a task, that is.

Gear for my first melee attempt - went beautifully. Armour is guthan plate with v skirt, rapier, neitiznot, zerker i, rune defender, soul wars cape, d boots. Turmoil the entire thing, overload/kite starting on the 360s. Switch to rune cbow if you panic on jad.

Watch Youtube videos to get the prayers down right.

Go range over melee it's easier and requires less luck.

If you have trouble get an eagle eye shield that will stop those 1 hit your dead deals.

Use claws + veng + soulsplit on Jad (wait 30 seconds before moving in so you can veng again).

Last questions, would it be worth it to get the Rapier now? Or should the CLS serve me fine?

Can someone tell me exactly how to switch those prayers? What cues the magic/range attacks, for example. Also, when do I switch back to melee?

Personally I would range Jad as switching between 2 protection prayers is easier than switching between 3.

Just my opinion, I know it's slower, but IMO it's easier.

Basically as soon as you kill the last 360 put on range protection. That's because the range attack makes a sound AFTER it hits you. The mage attack makes the retribution noise (sort of like a "whoosh") as he is casting it, so swap to mage as soon as you hear it. If you still can't see Jad at this stage (which is unlikely as you should have your Xbow and autoretaliate on) remember to switch back to range after the mage attack has hit you for the reasons stated above.

Personally, I like to be in viewing range of Jad. It helps me with my prayer changes. When he jumps up, it's range, when he bends down, it's mage.

Watch the vids on Youtube.

When meleeing you pray range (as above) but switch to melee prayer once you can see Jad, then switch prayers according to visual cues. The magic attack is a fireball forming above his head, the ranged attack is a stomp (and falling rocks). Always switching back to melee prayer as Jad's melee attacks lack cues.

Are you planning to get the CR anyway? Then sure, might be impractical to get it just for one fight caves trip, but there's nothing in there that has high defense so it will perform better. If not, the CLS will work just fine imo.
