I don't understand American politics. How can you have a political ad without talking about policies or having rational arguments about political issues? Is it really so much about personality now that it's ignored actual politics? How the hell is America still functioning?

Yep. You can rip a movie from a dvd onto your computer using a program from the internet (which I won't name because it's illegal in the US), and there would really be no way you could get caught.

Not the case, the government has been cracking down on piracy lately, and there is the chance that what you download will be logged and tracked. Unless of course you're smart and use a proxy.

Most people take them with a grain of salt unless it's a candidate that they don't support, in which case they enjoy the mudslinging.

Because of DAS (Dumb American Syndrome) the ads do work because of the stupid people who are uninterested in politics that see the slander ads and vote for who they think looks the best/sounds the best without looking into the details of it. That's why our government shifts from Republican to Democrat every election. That, and depending on how well the economy's doing determines the elections for the most part. When GDP is high and unemployment is low is a big decider as to how people view presidency's as being good or bad. Like when Clinton was in office, unemployment was low and there was high prosperity. Which is why he's regarded as a good president.

This is why California is great. Ours are all varying shades of ridiculous, and fit pretty much every stereotype perfectly.

Attack ads, I agree are pretty ridiculous.

 

But since when are elections based on actual debates or the platform of the candidate?

 

To clear it up, piracy is really a clouded issue in the U.S. - you won't end up in jail, although you could end up fined... but, only if you actually challenge it in court, since most ISP's will just bully you into paying them a fine to keep it out of court. If everyone went to court with it though, at some point they would have to stop, since it would essentially just be a DDOS attack on the courts.

There's one running on the Minnesota stations where they mention that a candidate wants gay marriage, and a big omonious boom goes off in the background. Ill post it if I see it again.
