Tact
With acrimony in the 2010 elections approaching new heights, I think it's time to look at one of the lighter areas of the campaign- Political Advertisements. Here are a few of the real political ads that have appeared this election cycle: Carly Fiorina, Republican candidate for Senate from California, released this online ad earlier this year attacking one of her primary election rivals. So bad, you almost wish it wasn't a real ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRY7wBuCcBY Dale Peterson, candidate for Alabama Agriculture Commissioner, accuses his "dummy" opponent of stealing yard signs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQdTgkY321s ...and the follow up ad, endorsing one of his former opponents after losing in the first round of voting (in which he shows he means business about those yard sign thefts): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GabMEHfCjT0 And finally, a clip that isn't an attack ad. Mike Weinstein, Florida state representative (District 19), has a campaign music video made by his son. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byn8ZD6kckg
Alg
California's ads in general tend to get ridiculous at times. You'd think with the hundreds of millions (Or whatever the total is) that Whitman alone is pouring in to her campaign she'd be able to come up with better ads. How the hell is America still functioning? Your sample in this case is biased. These ads are posted on TIF specifically because they make no sense - most address the issues to some extent. The majority of political ads that I see on the television (and indeed on billboards) aren't rational. The closest they get to rationalizing their campaign is 'So and so did this! So and so outsourced jobs! Do you want that for America? Vote X Mc[bleep] today!' The United States really is becoming an embarrassing country to live in.
