Rex solo, Arch or Spec?

Your accuracy is so great against rex with so little mage attack that arcane would be complete overkill. The spectral on the other hand will cut down on damage quite a bit. I'd definitely go for the spec.

I'd go with sw cape. Again, accuracy against rex is just not a concern; if you have arc stream, SoL, and barrows gloves I'd think anything else would be overkill.

 

Edit: fire surge ftw, or slayer dart if you want to go the cheap way. Barrage is a big waste of cash.

 

Arc stream necklace is basically a requirement for maging, period. 15% damage bonus and 15 mage attack is HUGE.

According to Bladewing, ice barrage costs an extra ~700k a trip, but it's very convenient when 2.5briding because you can freeze rex if he spots you while you're on supreme, and you can choose to just farcast him if you don't feel like safespotting. On top of that, it hits slightly higher. Whether or not it's "worth it" depends on what you value.

i would only use barrage if you are tribrid/2.5briding. for soloing rex i would use cog or fire surge if you aren't 99 magic already.

I would actually argue that because you don't need any food while soloing rex(you don't, really) you are much better off making yourself un-crashable. I've used arcane for solo tribrid and the difference in clearly noticable(30 mage attack vs. 5 mage attack).

But I do agree you don't need food For soloing rex, when I used to do that, the unicorn kept up even without praying. Overall though, both are a bit overkill, I wouldn't go out of your way to buy a shield for solo rex when it wouldn't make THAT big of a difference.

A spectral shield for Rex? That sounds stupid because from what i remember, i always used protect from magic incase Dagannoth Prime (Mager, hit max 55+) appeared. And Spinos use magic attack too. So i prayed magic and uses ranged defensive gear. As for Arcane, it would not help you much. Rex has very weak defence towards magic.

 

If you want a item that will help you, get a Arcane stream necklace. That will be useful :thumbup: Granite shield is not a bad choice as shield.

you are right i probably could have been more clear. specifically i was bouncing off of this line in your post:

the idea would be, get a good shield and put it to good use (tri/2.5 brid)

I haven't been to DKS in about a month and a half, but over the summer I managed around 1.5-2m average hourly profit soloing Rex.

well i use soul split on rex not pray mage the whole time that way i can stay for hours. I am useing yak to bank bones and hides.

if you can afford both an arcane and a spec you should not be solo maging.

 

EDIT: just looked at your stats, you should DEFINITELY be 2.5ing.

For tribrid/2.5ing:

Arc, definitely. People tend to ignore magic attack bonus on rex but it's actually pretty important. You do miss a significant portion of the time if you have a negative bonus. You're also praying mage most of the time so there's no need for mage defense.

Another trick of the trade: use bandos top instead of barrows top, as it offers 15 less magic attack penalty and has the same ranged defense, as well as prayer.

 

For solo:

Spec, because soloing is more about durability than killrate

 

Bringing both is ridiculous and unnecessary risk.

I thought bandos has like...+1 range def over barrows.
