green9090
Melee defense and pray against ranged. They don't mage. Join "DG Sweepers" Clan Chat for Dungeoneering Floors | Accepting all tipiters who are Willing to Learn |

green9090
Yeah, there was a lot of confusion when they came out, because the ranged attack looks a whole lot like it should be magic. There's also a breath attack, which isn't affected by any prayers or armor (similar to metal dragon breath). A lot of bestiaries still claim that they mage, even though they definitely don't. No problem. Join "DG Sweepers" Clan Chat for Dungeoneering Floors | Accepting all tipiters who are Willing to Learn |
Kimberly
And only because it bears repeating, use only elemental/mind/body shields or DFS when you slay them. That's an easy mistake to make, especially if you're not used to slaying them.
Kirbyallstar
Is it better to use a body shield, or dfs? Or do they do the same thing?
Kimberly
Is it better to use a body shield, or dfs? Or do they do the same thing? DFS if you have it, body if you don't. Mind if you can't wield body. If you don't have any of those things, the icy breath will hit you pretty hard. I don't know if it's possible to nullify the damage to that with something like soul split, but it hits pretty hard so I don't think it's likely. green9090
Wow. Very cool proof of concept, but still seems like a pretty rotten task given the KO potential (multiple freezes in a row = tele, end of story) and still significant defense. It also defeats the entire point of bothering with a wyvern task by ruling out banking the bones with a yak. My ignore list remains intact. Obtaurian
They're the third (?) best crimson droppers in the game, so I can see why Zarfot does them. I wouldn't bother, either, though. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.
Quyneax
Praying range doesn't really do much good afaik, soul split is the way to go with and without dfs/mind/body. green9090
I assumed OP didn't have soul split, but ranged pray actually does help significantly in my experience. They rarely hit with melee if you're in good tank gear- most damage is from the breath and the ranged attack. If I HAD to go there now I'd probably flash soul split with ranged prayer on, but I realize some people can't/prefer not to prayer flash. Sire_Mark_II
My equipment is garbage (dragon chain + legs, glory, body shield, whip, slayer helm) and I followed a terrible guide's advice to pray mage for the first few trips on my last assignment. Was only averaging 9-10 kills. Decided to switch to protect range and my kills went up to 13-15. It definatley helped and someone with a healing familiar and better gear should easily be able to get 20 kills per trip.

Get barrows, please. It's so much better and repair costs are so small as to not exist.
