Curses vs. Regular Pray

Aight so i kind of thought of something, would curses be less of value now? Because when wildy returns you wont be able to smite your enemy, and thats the best part of pking is smiting the valuable items. I want to know your guys feedback. In my opinion i would rather smite then hit 30 lifepoints higher

Soul Split- If this curse is active when you are fighting another player, they will lose 1 Prayer point (and you will gain 10 life points) for every 50 points of damage you do to them. This curse drain effect isn't affected by your victim's protection prayers.

The extra boost from turmoil will make you do more damage, draining more prayer. Smite is 1/40, soul split 1/50, so not really a big difference. I'd rather have the increased KO potential.

Most people who really pvp a lot would take the option that would have them stay alive, smite is a last ditch effort to hurt whomever when you die. Dying isn't really the goal of a pvper.

Are you perhaps mixing up retribution/wrath and smite? Smite is the one that drains the opponent's prayer.

what the hell are you talking about, you don't lose prayer faster if you hit hard with soulsplit on, they do.

There is no discussion here. Unless you are strictly range / mage hybriding with rigour and augury unlocked, curses will be better. and even if you are range / mage hybriding, curses are a very close second.

Also dont forget that soulsplit does lose your prayer on how hard you hit so ..

Wait are you saying that your own prayer points drop based on what you hit, or your opponents? Because your opponent does...Also, if you have 95 prayer you will probably be hitting sufficiently high regardless.

...wat

Curses cause enemy to lose less prayer per damage but curses increase damage dealt with turmoil more then piety.

So it's 50 per prayer lost but still your max is +30 more so its similar.

Curses own obviously.

My friend Lost everything because he used the healing pray if ur health drops below 10% and ran out of pray.

Epic fail.

Riiiiiight.. Idk what that has to do with anything but..

Turmoil > Piety

Soul Split (kinda) > smite (remember ss also heals you)

Ah, yes, i am. Either way though Soul splits ability to heal some of what you hit makes it a better choice than Smite's pure prayer drainage.

Well, it depends on the situation. Say you've got a skulled one-itemer with claws in the middle of the wild and you're trying to tease him out with ice magic and prayer drainage to get the claws. At that point, the healing is completely useless because you're not taking damage, and augury + smite would be a much better option. If you're meleeing though, the extra damage from turmoil alone closes the gap between the prayer drain rates significantly and makes it easier to actually get the kill, so even though smite would be better than soul split (slightly), soul split + turmoil is still better than smite + piety.

Leech magic, defence, run energy, special energy, attack, strength and soul split > augury and smite even in that situation :P. However rigour + smite > full leach + soul split if you are only ranging.

At the higher level of prayer curses are probably more useful than normal prayers most of the time.

I think they should change the drain-rates for Curses if I'm quite honest, they offer much better bonuses for the same drain-rates, they should drain faster because of the added bonuses.

They also require multiple times as much prayer exp for the equivalent effect. They deserve to be better, because prayer keeps giving combat levels up to 99 but stops being useful at 70 on the old book.
