Those Amazingly Vivid Dreams

I couldn't really describe what I'm talking about in a title, so that's why it sounds so lame. But this is what I am trying to talk about. Those dreams that you have no idea how they could have happened. Dreams of things that you never experienced before but somehow are conjured up in your mind. (I know there have been similar topics, but this one is somewhat different. I'm talking about specific types of lucid type dreams, not to post just random dreams you can remember.)

Things like in a dream creating some great type of music you've never heard before. Creating new types of creatures in dreams. Stuff that you've never had or seen happen in reality, but so vividly happen in your mind, and when you wake up, you can't really reproduce it. Somehow our brains have this amazing capacity while we sleep to come up with these 'amazing dreams' I'm talking about.

I had one dream a few months ago that I can only barely remember how visually stunning it really was when I had it. It was in this three dimensional space and there were these colorful galaxy swirls everywhere. I was flying at such high speeds, and there was so much color and stars but at the same time the sheer hugeness and blackness of space. Everything was so vibrant and moving - I can't mentally reproduce it anymore, but it was an amazing experience.

So who else has had these amazingly vivid type of dreams that you can't really imagine and know can't exist in real life, and what were they?

There are only two dreams that I can still recall perfectly, and they're both at least 5 years old.

The first one, I'm at my old house in D.C., and these racoons are chasing me through my dark house, so I run around my house until I get to the den, where they can't seem to come get me at. I sit down in my chair, and across the room, there's a pile of laundry. The laundry forms into a person, where I then woke up. Random, weird.

Second one took place at the Lincoln Memorial. I'm at the bottom of the steps when a bunch of meteors come striking everywhere, and everone runs away for cover, so I jump into the Reflecting Pool, and it's like 10 feet deep with a bunch of girls in bathing suits swimming around in it. I have no idea why I remember only these two :?

ok this is gonna sound weird lol, but you remember from that show Rugrats, that green dinosaur thing?Yeah, well i once had a dream where that was going around a city(i dont know which one) and was stomping on everything and blowing things wup with its feet and stuff.Well i was in this orange building with an old dude sitting in a chair sipping tea smoking a pipe saying to me "dont worry hell be gone soon" and things like that while everywhere outside people weere just calm and everything despite the destruction going on.So i was fraking out and before the dianosaur thing destroyed the building i was in, i woke up.It was weird too because it wasnt really a nightmare...and i used to like the lil green dragon on Rugrats  this is just really random though cause i could "see" everything so clearly....but when i woke up it was kind of a haze..but i remembered more of it as the years went by.

Wierdest dream I've had in awhile was this one where all I did was run. Indiana Jones style with a huge bolder chasing me. It was weird because I'd be running into something smaller, like the world was shrinking, yet I never shrunk. It was a really trippy dream.

Only reason I remember was because I had it like once a week for a long time when I was younger.

I love the dreams where you can almost conciouselly (sp?) control what you're doing in them. The grooviest one I ever had was, followed closely by the entire Metal Gear Solid game as Snake, was definately having a Super Mario World 3 dream. Oh my God, it was so much fun.

Those are called Lucid dreams, and there's a whole bunch of information about em. I'm going to make a thread with everything about it in a few days.

I had a really strange dream last night. It wasn't so wierd that I couldn't like, reconjure, or whatever the things that happened, but I have no clue how or why my brain was thinking like that. Some crazy guy, I called him in the dream "The Illusionist" was giving me a tour of a wild, red mansion. It was absurdly designed, strange shaped doors and such. And every new room I'd go to, there would be, what appeared to be corpses laying in the bed. And so I went to one, and it had two, apparently dead mimes in it. And when I went to go see them, they woke up, and we danced around, and for some reason I was entirely unafraid. I remember actually feeling happy in the dream, but when I woke up I was terrified. And then the illusionist moved me to new and different rooms, one had a person who was apparently stabbed and burned, and she got up too. It was so...strange.

I had a lucid dream once, and i have no idea how to have one again.

It was pretty amazing... I am a Matrix fan, and i was oging around in the typical Neo clothes, flying.

I could FEEL the acceleration (like how you fall in a dream, you know?) and everything. I landed and jumped from building to building, and fell once, and it was amazingly fun. At the bottom i woke up though.

Damn, i need to learn how to go into a lucid dream at will. It's like a vacation from reality...

I think maybe when it feels so real, it could be because you're partially awake. I have many dreams where I'm falling, drowning, flying or whatever, and it feels so real; but I'm not quite asleep when I have them. Often, when I wake up, I still feel half of that sense - falling in particular, and I tend to kick the bed with my achille's heel as an immediate reaction.

Yeah, I know about that weird spasm thing that happens when you fall in a dream. I think it might be related to sleep paralysis (being unable to move between sleeping and waking up for a second). It's really weird.

Cloaked, I can relate to that dream. I had one like it, and it was awesome. It's possible to have lucid dreams often, you just have to train yourself to it.

Yea, Lucid Dreaming, I kept up with that for a while and I started to get a little bit of control over my dreams. After a while I stopped keeping things up and now I don't have them that often anymore. Past few days I've really been dreaming of me being at work. Terrible.

The most vivd dream i can remember is from like 6 years ago, and it was just one of those things youll remember forever. My mom was having some friends over and i was downstairs. I went into the garage and it somehow turned into a cave and such. i was behind a rock or something, and my mom and her friends came in and they all turned into vampires and bats and we hanging upside down. It was pretty freaky, but ill never forget it.

If you sleep 6-8 hours everyone has at least 6 full dreams every night  You just can't remember the first 5, and you can only recall the last one if you wake up during it.

Fun experiment: Get 6 watches and set them to go 90 minites apart with the first starting 90 minites after you fall asleep. Have a pencil and paper/tape recorder next to youe bed. Fall asleep. You will be rudly awakened in the midst of dream #1 and it will be clear in your head, write a sentance or two about it and fall beck asleep (should be easy to do so if you just woke up in REM, or dream state) Repeat until morning and write down your last dream then look over the list. Half the time you won't even remember writting down what you just wrote anything and the most of the time you will have no recollection of them untill you read what you wrote then it will suddenly hit you. :)

Something easier that I do is whenever I have a cool dream I record my 45 seconds description and save it as a WAV file in a hidden folder on my computer with the date. I now have every cool dream of the last 4 years (55 or so) and its wierd to listen to them since 90% I completly forgot I had.

I keep a dream journal to get myself into the habit of remembering dreams more easily. Still, there must be something in the brain that erases most of the memory of a dream because most often, even seconds after I wake up (sometimes even if I use an alarm clock over 90 minute intervals although I only wake myself up once a night when I do that) I'll still forget the dream, and sometimes be lucky to only remember one snapshot of the dream. Eventually your recollections of dreams does get better by keeping a journal and writing down what happened right when you wake up though, and it's interesting reading (or listening like you said) to what they were.

One of the weirdest dreams I ever half-remember having was something to do with a mechwarrior level, running through a forest, and seeing someone (in a hood) murder someone else. And the strawberry from the 'fruit winders' adverts. Can't remember a thing other than a few vivid images of those. I spent like ten minutes trying to remember what the hell was going on when I woke up, was very weird. Completely unrelated but somehow linked...

Something similar happened another time but it turned out I was just completely out of it.

I remember a few dreams ... like one dream I had twice, when I was about 5 or 6, in which I was on my bed and awake, and all my toys came alive and were about to attack me. It was quite scary because I had these two T-Rex toys ...

Last night I had a dream that had some relation to Donnie Darko. I was picking up clues that the characters in the movie had left behind, and then I was suddenly with these really thick-headed people I used to be friends with at school (two of them got expelled). It's interesting, because yesterday I was thinking about them. Anyway, suddenly these three guys, who were like stereotypical macho jocks, came near us, and one of the people I was with kicked a ball at them. I told them to log out, but they refused to (a lot of my dreams end up incorporating games), so we just stayed there, and then we were fighting these people - except they were huge robots, and I was controlling myself with the usual gamepad. I think I ended up beating a few of them but then I woke up.

Two really, REALLY strange things I used to have in my dreams:

Whenever I was having a bad dream, I had a way of escaping. I'd move my hand to where the escape button would be, press down 5 times, press enter and press Y. It was the exact sequence when exitting from DOOM 2. I had that for years where I'd escape dreams by doing that.

Another one, was about a year or two ago; I used to begin making the sign of the cross in a dream, but then I'd stop, and I'd be out of the dream. My brother suggested that, since that was the time when I was losing my faith, I'd be halfway through escaping through a divine route, but then I'd realise "hey, I don't need this" and I'd escape of my own accord.

Weird.
