What's up with the lobster market?

Featured Replies

So, I noticed in my notes that back in October I bought a couple thousand raw lobster for 392gp each.

Now I see Lobster going for less than coal at like 130-140gp each. Is it just crashing? Will it stay this low? I just came back to actively playing RS and thought about buying some lobsters and was amazed at the low prices. Will they stay this way or shoot back up after free-trade mania slows down into its normal groove?

I've noticed alot of things are crashing.

IMO they won't be stable at 130, might go up to 200 ish, since after all, demand should be high with PKing back.

I'm betting they'll go back up to the 200-250 range at least, but I definitely would like to know what everyone else thinks (since I haven't really played in years and I'm way behind the times)

from my understanding, it's botting.

Ever since the lobster noting updating for F2P players by the NPC Stiles at Musa Point, prices have plummeted.

This.

Plus, free trade has kinda shocked the GE from my understanding. A few things are crashing, while other things are rising, and some are staying put.

My guess is that players are still getting used to the GE with free trade back.

It's a whole bunch of factors, not just any single one, combined together that made this whole mess.

There's the noter, as was mentioned. There's the bots. And then there's the thousands of players who bought into the gossip being spread everywhere that lobsters are going up when free trade comes out because everyone and their pet hamster Henry would need food killing each other in the wild. It will take a long while for it to reach the price you bought them for. The lobster market is just saturated.

To be honest, most fish are crashing. Sharks have gone down to 740gp each and Monkfish have also fell by around 25%. The strange thing is, with wilderness coming back the demand for fish/food should have increased and they should have gone up if anything.

Hardly strange. Consider if those same pkers already have their own food supplies. They needn't bother buying more if they've got enough to last them months.

There's just too much food all round.
