May 18, 201115 yr Author Nex, because the Pirates and the British had been there for 40 years without major issues arising. Occassionally a shipment gets looted...Lose a few hundred...say 1,000 kT. Say once a month, that is 12,000 kT.Ships rarely get stolen because they take a lot of effot to break down (minus TBs) and tugs aren't that useful to a Pirate. First,If they wanted to build a Destroyer it would cost 5,000 kT for the shell. So 3 Destroyers and you have lost the more profit that you did with the pirate raiders, and that is not with weapons, engines and what not. Second,They don't have the manpower to crew a huge stack of ships, they are busy mining and what not. Third,The pirate fleet deters other enemies from moving in.As noted during the Estoc attack, the Pirate Fleet is not poised to take over the British bases...Defeating the pirates solves a minor long term problem, but leaves the door open for dozens of other problems to present themselves.
