New Player Coming Back?

So guys, I've recently decided to come back to Runescape after a long absence. The game had bored me so I quit the game and this forum a long time ago. I figure, with the summer and all, it would be nice seeing if I could be as good as I once was. I quit around the time Dragon Claws came out. I'm a level 134 and way back when I was used to having the best stuff available. Not sure if I have the money for that now since I don't even know what the best stuff is now. Haha, I won't mind climbing back up the ranks and it could be fun. But what I'm asking is, anyone want to give me a rundown on what has happened since I've been gone? I'm going to read the newsposts whenever I have the time, but with my job and all, I won't have that time for a while. So what's been going on?

I remember you, a long time ago. It's good to see you back.

And boy. You were gone since late 2008? You have a lot to catch up on.

Notable releases:

- the logout timer is now 5mins long instead of the old 90

- some achievement diaries

- extremes, overloads, superantifires and things like that are released (herblore)

- Runescape Classic reopened then closed, and will reopen again soon

- stronger Prayers are released as a quest reward from "Temple of Sennisten" (called curses)

- the equivalent of Black Masks now are available for the range and mage sides of the triangle

- damage soaking is released

- wildy came back, along with free trade

- clan support came out

And of course quests, distractions & diversions, and things like that.

Soaking is more or less negligible. Right now it is too low to ever be significant.

We also have a new boss, Nex. A new skill, Dungoneering. A new class of weapons, chaotic weapons.

PM me in game anytime

It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet.

That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying.

With nex came out better equipments - torva, pernix and virtus. Apart from their stats, they also boost your max life points by a certain amount. E.g. torva plate boosts your max life point by 200.

I saw that stuff! Seems really really expensive! xD

Is dungeoneering worth it at all? Might not even level it up.

On another note, anyone remember Theoknight2? I love that guy. I didn't even tell him I was leaving because it happened so suddenly. I feel bad.

Probably also worth pointing out:

Hitpoints skill became constitution.

and HP itself became LP which is 10 times larger (so 99 constitution = 990 lp)

Food and attacks all hit 10 times more now.

New damage splats now show darker splats for damage others do (so you know which hits r yours) plus they have icons to show melee/range/mage damage type. and a orange splat to indicate a max hit.

And dungeoneering is epically worth it. The scrolls related to herblore, farming (and to a lesser extent smithing) are great money savers. Chaotic weapons are the BEST weapons in-game for general use, especially the rapier.

Tome of frost is a god send for ancient mages (unlimited water runes in shield spot). Especially as some staves now have a % boost to mage damage making using staff of light or other such staffs much better than a water staff.

Bone crusher is epic for slaying as it auto buries bones for you; which all adds up in the long run.

Gem bag is good for slaying as it allows you to store a lot of gems in 1 slot thus making them worthwhile to pick up.

Herbicide is good as it "burns" herb drops of your choice automatically for double cleaning xp (gr8 for things like abbys to weed out all the useless herbs)

Arcane stream is best mage necklace in game

Ring of vigour owns for maximising special attacks for pking and some boss hunting(?)

Oh an anti poison totem can be used to great effect in PP and BA.

Some other updates I think came after u quit that are decent:

Barbarian Assault horn - epically useful as long as you enjoy ba. Switch in waiting rooms let u turn for points to xp gains which fills the horn. The horn offers double xp to fm, agility and mining.

Two new high level agility courses make that pretty ownage.

Staff of light is new epic mage staff with the best(?) mage damage booster on it

New slayer master (Kuradel) found in the ancient cavern with a task specific dungeon.

Hunter Jadinkos offer new epic xp rates and access to untradable farming juju that is very useful for herb farmers.

Fairy Tale part 3 quests allows fairy ring usage with no staff/items

About all I can think of atm.

Dungeoneering is really a hit and miss skill. Alot of people love it, and alot of people hate it. I would say the chaotic rapier was definitely worth the 'grind' to lvl 80. However dg does have a much higher learning curve then other skills in the past due to its versatility.

I do suggest you check out the dungeoneeringsweepers thread in the same forum. People there will be more then happy to help you with any dg questions.

I would also suggest that if you do train dg, use dungeoneering sweepers as much as possible, the reason why I said 'grind' was because it will feel very much like a grind if you use w117 because there are too many people who don't know what to do and refuse to learn.

Here is the thing about dungoneering. It is the worst, most horrible skill until you hit around level 70-80. Then it starts to get fun, especially as you start teaming with other people who are good at dung.

The weapons you unlock from it are pretty much needed at any PvM.

Wow guys thanks for all the help! I'm really into slayer that anything to do with that matters a lot to me.

And wow, Nifflin, so the whip is like obsolete now or what? What's the best weapon then?

I'm glad to see this community is still as helpful as I left it :)

The whip isn't obsolete, just not really the best anymore.

The chaotic rapier is now best for most combat with the maul and longsword having niche uses. For slayer you would want a rapier.

Dungeoneering Guide by 0xpx0

Preface: This Guide is aimed at reaching 33 dungeoneering within the shortest amount of time on an otherwise maxed account and no pre-obtaied experience items.

The guide:

Starting out at Lumbridge home teleport. Climb down to Lumbridge basement and enter Lumbridge swamp caves. Run to Juna and do Tears of Guthix D&D. You need to score atleast 199 tears to be successful. Assuming you managed 200 tears, you will gain 1880 dungeoneering xp, getting you to level 13 dungeoneering. (estimated time 4 minutes)

Next, teleport to Edgeville and enter Edgeville dungeon. Run to the north side of the dungeon, enter wilderness and enter the chaos druid resource dungeon for 1100 dungeoneering xp, you have now reached 2980 dungeoneering xp and level 16 dungeoneering. (estimated time 2 minutes)

After that teleport to Falador and run far east to the drawen mine entrance, and enter the dwarwen mine. Run west and enter dwarwen mine resource dungeon. This will grant you 1500 dungeoneering xp for a total of 4480 xp and level 20. (estimated time 2 minutes)

Teleport to the Grand Exchange and run southwest. Use your muddy key to enter Edgeville dungeon hill giants. Run further south-west and enter hill giants resource dungeon. This will grant you 1600 dungeoneering xp for a total of 6080 dungeoneering xp and level 22 dungeoneering. (estimated time 2 minutes)

After that complete the Penguin Hide and Seek D&D. With good knowledge of penguin locations(using a specialised clan chat or group for it) and available teleport items this shouldn’t take you long. Once you have gained 16 penguin points, use elite Ardougne cape to teleport to south of Ardougne and run north to Larry. Cash all your points in for dungeoneering to gain 8800 xp. You should now be at 14880 dungeoneering xp and level 31 dungeoneering. (estimated time 12 minutes)

Next, use use your glory to teleport to Karamja. Run east and enter Karamja volcanoe. Take a loop around the lava and run south-east to enter the lesser demon resource dungeon. This will grant you 2100 dungeoneering xp, pushing your total to 16980 and level 32 dungeoneering. (estimated time 2 minutes)

For the finishing touch, use your ring of kinship to teleport to Daemonheim. Run to the south-east point of the peninsula and enter the maple/willow tree resource dungeon. This will grant you 2400 dungeoneering xp, pushing the total up to 19380 and level 33 dungeoneering. (estimated time 2 minutes)

Congratulations, you are now the master of smart leveling dungeoneering and have reached your goal of 33 dungeoneering in an estimated time of 26 minutes. In all honesty, I would advise everyone to not do actual dungeons before reaching level 50 dungeoneering, thus continuing with resource dungeons/tears/penguins until that level. At level 50 dungeoneering it is actually realistic that you would start dungeoneering with other people and learning the ropes of how to become a great dungeoneer.

Oh yeah totally forgot to mention the dungeonnering resource dungeons.

Most are useful for slayer (like blue dragons, hellhounds, fire giants(?), metal dragons) as they add new spots that don't get too busy most of the time.

Some are epic for skilling dwarf mine resource dungeon has a deposit box making the triangle of iron rocks just outside really easy to powermine if you hate dropping.

And then the ultimate frost dragons. Best bones in-game for prayer training net a massive profit.

Resource dungeons are small dungeons that you can access at certain dungeoneering levels.

And in the whole prayer area demonic creatures now drop ashes that can be scattered (buried), ectoed or altared.

There's 3 levels of ash; the lwoer two aren't much use but using prayer urns (crafting) you can auto gather them and then tele the urn for a nice ~10% xp boost on jsut scattering.

And infernal ashes are only a few xp different from dragon bones so they sell well and are good for a cheaper prayer training choice. (Not checked recently but excluding the low level bones and focussing only on the reasonable speedy methods infernal ashes are better gp:xp than d bones and frost bones.)

Wow thanks guys, looks like I need to work on everything a bit. Okay, one more HUGE question. Due to some bad descisions after I left Runescape, I have only about a 150k bank value with 5k actual gold to my name. Haven't been this poor in years. What are decent ways to raise money nowadays with my stats?

If you are really poor and you are back to playing on the medium/long term I'd suggest dungeoneering. It's free and at level 81/82 you get a chaotic rapier (+94 stab +101 strength whip speed). You can easily farm herbs every few floors to make some money, too.
